    • Care Home

The Martins is a residential care home in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, caring for older people including many living with dementia. We also take respite bookings for people who need a stay of a few weeks, whether to recover after hospital or to give a family carer a proper break. We run an unhurried home. People get up when they choose, keep their own belongings around them, eat food that is worth sitting down to and spend their days as suits them. There is company and something going on for those who want it, and a quiet corner for those who would rather have their own, and neither choice needs explaining. With dementia, steadiness does most of the work. Familiar faces, a predictable shape to the day, calm surroundings and time given rather than rushed. We learn about people's earlier lives from them and from their families, because knowing who somebody has been changes how you talk with them now. Where a person becomes distressed we look for the cause rather than reaching for a label. Our staff know the people living here, which is how a change in health gets noticed early and taken to the GP or district nurse before it becomes serious. Families are welcome whenever suits them and are part of how decisions are made. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Do ring if you would like to look round.

    • Care Home

We are a residential care home in Bury St Edmunds, providing a home for older people who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia and people with mental health needs. Much of our work is unremarkable, and that is rather the point: helping somebody wash and dress without hurry, sitting with a person who is anxious, remembering how they like their tea and who they want to hear from. Residents keep their own rooms, belongings and routines as far as we can manage and decide how much they want to be part of whatever is happening in the house. Meals are cooked here and we listen when somebody would rather have something else. Dementia care rests on knowing the person rather than following a procedure, so we ask families to tell us about working life, children, music, faith and old habits. That knowledge is worth more than any written plan when somebody is frightened or cannot place where they are. We offer respite as well as permanent places, which can give a relative who provides care at home a planned break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was requires improvement. We would rather tell you that ourselves than leave you to find it later. We are working through what the inspectors raised and are willing to go through the report with anyone considering the home. Please come and see the place as it really is.

    • Care Home

Fornham House is a residential home near Bury St Edmunds. We are home to older people, including many living with dementia, and we support younger adults too. Respite stays are part of what we do. We keep institutional habits out: no waking people for handover, no queueing for meals, no assuming everybody wants the television on. Dementia care here depends on knowing the person. We ask relatives early for the working life, the places and the music, because that information is much harder to gather later and it is what still connects when a good deal else has gone. Having younger residents as well as older ones means we ask people individually what a good day looks like rather than running a single programme, and we accept the answer when it is to be left alone. We keep an eye on weight, appetite and mood, because those are usually the first signs that something has changed for somebody. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. Our own test is sharper: whether somebody who has lived here a year still feels at home, and we ask them directly.

    • Care Home

Cedar Lodge is a care home in Bury St Edmunds. We provide residential care for older people and younger adults, we support people living with dementia, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. One thing worth looking at when you visit any home is how long the staff have been there. A settled team tells you more than the state of the furnishings. People who stay learn the residents properly, notice when somebody is off colour and handle a difficult moment calmly because they have met it before. We put our effort into keeping good staff for that reason, and we would suggest asking them directly rather than asking us. The day belongs to the residents. They choose when to get up, what to eat, where to spend their time and how much company they want. Rooms belong to the people in them, and relatives visit without appointment. For those living with dementia, we work from who the person has been rather than what they can currently manage. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see us if you are considering care in this part of Suffolk.

Kathryn Court is a residential care home in Shoeburyness. We support older people and younger adults who need help with everyday life, including residents living with dementia, residents with physical disabilities and residents with visual or hearing impairment, and we offer respite stays for shorter periods. Residents here have different histories, different routines and very different ideas of a good day, so we plan support one person at a time rather than running the house on a single timetable. We ask when someone likes to wake, what they want to eat, how much help they want and where they prefer to spend the afternoon. Help with personal care, meals and medication is given quietly and with respect for privacy. Dementia care shapes much of our work. Knowing a person's history, the people and places that matter to them and the rhythms that suit them is what allows us to reassure rather than argue when someone is unsettled. For residents with sensory loss we adapt how we communicate and how rooms are arranged, and for residents with physical disabilities we pay close attention to mobility and to the arrangements that let someone do more without help. Families are welcome whenever they wish to visit and we would far rather hear a concern while it is small. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

    • Care Home

Elizabeth House is a residential care home in Canterbury. We support older people, including those living with dementia and those living with mental ill health, as well as younger adults and people affected by alcohol or drug misuse. Respite stays are available too. Supporting a mixed group under one roof means we cannot run the home to a single pattern, and we do not try. What we aim for is a place where people are taken as they come and where support is built around the individual. Some residents need a very structured day. Others need the opposite, plenty of freedom and somewhere stable to come back to. We work without judgement. People who have struggled with alcohol or drugs often arrive expecting to be treated as a problem to be managed, and that is not our approach. The same goes for people with a long history of mental ill health. With dementia, familiar faces and a steady rhythm do most of the work, and we treat distress as something with a cause rather than as behaviour to be quietened. Respite stays give family carers a break and can offer somebody breathing space during a difficult period. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit Elizabeth House and ask us anything.

Meadow View Residential Care Home is a care home in Canterbury. We provide residential care for older people and younger adults, and we support people living with dementia and people with a physical disability. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. We try to keep the home running around the people who live in it rather than the other way round. Residents decide when to get up, where to spend their time and how much they want to join in. Rooms belong to the people in them, with their own furniture and photographs, and visitors are not confined to set hours. Supporting somebody with dementia means knowing who they were long before we met them. A person's working life, their family, the things they did every day for forty years, all of that explains a great deal about what settles them now and what does not. Families fill in that picture for us and it changes how we respond. Respite stays are there for carers who need a genuine break, and for people who want to try the home before committing to it. If you are considering a care home in this part of Kent, please come and look round, ask awkward questions and talk to the people living here.

Roselands Residential Care Home is a care home in Norbury. We provide residential care for older people and younger adults, and we support people living with dementia and people managing a mental health condition. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Supporting somebody who has lived with a mental health condition for many years asks for a different habit of mind from the one care homes often fall into. Most of the people who come to us have been dealing with their condition for a long time, have been told what to do by a great many professionals, and know more about what helps them than any assessment is likely to capture. We start from what the person tells us, and we do not treat a difficult period as a reason to reconsider whether they should be here. The rest is ordinary living. People decide how their day runs, come and go, keep their own routines and have their own space to retreat to when company becomes too much. Staff are expected to be consistent, which for most of the people here counts for more than anything else. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. At Roper House, we provide care and support for a wide range of people in the heart of Canterbury, Kent. Our home welcomes older adults, younger adults, and people living with dementia, learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs, physical disabilities, and visual or hearing impairments. We believe that good care means seeing each person as an individual, understanding their history, their preferences, and what matters most to them day to day. We are proud to have been rated Good by the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the commitment of our whole team to providing care that is safe, responsive, and genuinely centred on the people who live here. That rating matters to us, but what matters more is how residents and their families feel about life at Roper House. Our staff get to know each resident properly. That takes time and it takes listening, and we think both are essential. Whether someone needs support with personal care and daily routines, or requires more specialist input around dementia or a learning disability, we work hard to make sure the care we provide fits the person rather than the other way around. We also know how much it means to families to feel reassured and involved. We keep communication open and honest, and we welcome relatives to be part of their loved one's life here. Canterbury itself is a wonderful city, and we make the most of its community, culture, and surroundings wherever we can. If you are considering Roper House for yourself or someone close to you, we would always encourage you to come and visit, ask questions, and take your time. Finding the right home is an important decision and we are happy to help you think it through at whatever pace suits you.

Harrington Care Homes in Aylesbury is a nursing home offering both residential and nursing care to older people and to younger adults. Having qualified nurses on site means that people can stay with us as their needs change, rather than facing another move at a point in life when moving is the last thing anyone wants. We look after a good number of residents living with dementia, and we try to make the home easy to live in for them. That means clear routines, unhurried support, staff who know each person's history, and an environment where someone can walk about, potter and find something to do without being steered back to a chair. Good care is largely made up of small things done consistently. Knowing how someone takes their tea. Noticing that a person who normally chats has gone quiet. Getting pain relief right so that someone can enjoy an afternoon rather than endure it. We spend our time on those details, because they add up to how a day actually feels. Families are welcome here and we would rather hear from you regularly than only when there is a problem. We also offer respite care, whether that is to give a family carer a rest or to help someone recover their strength after a stay in hospital before returning home.

Buckingham Lodge is a residential care home in Aylesbury caring for older people, including those living with dementia and those with a physical disability or with sight or hearing loss. People come to us when home has become unsafe or lonely, and our first job is to make the move feel less like a loss. We ask about a person's history, their work, their family and their habits, and we build the day around that as far as we can. Staff help with washing and dressing, with getting about safely, with medication and with eating and drinking well, and they take the time to do it properly. For those living with dementia, we keep things familiar and predictable, keep explanations short and calm, and pay attention to what somebody is trying to tell us when words are no longer reliable. Rooms are personalised, and visitors are a help rather than a disruption. There is company and activity for those who want it, and quiet for those who would rather read or watch the garden. Meals are cooked here and choice is genuine. We also take respite and short stay guests, which suits families needing a break or someone recovering after illness. Saxon Lodge Residential Home is in Canterbury, Kent. We look after older people who need help with daily life but not nursing care, including a good number living with dementia, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. What we offer is help with the ordinary day, given properly and without rush. Getting washed and dressed in a way that leaves somebody feeling like themselves. Medicines on time. Meals that are hot, recognisable and worth eating. Help to move about the building safely. Company for people who had been sitting alone for most of the week before they came to us. For residents with dementia the work is mostly about consistency. The same staff, the same rhythms, a bedroom that looks like the person's own room, and a willingness to go at their pace rather than ours. We ask families for the detail that no assessment ever captures. What he did for a living, what she cannot abide, which songs they know all the words to. Canterbury is a city people are attached to, and many of our residents have lived here most of their lives, which gives the lounge plenty of common ground. King Edward House is a residential care home in Canterbury, Kent. We support adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions and people with physical disabilities, including those living with sight or hearing loss, along with residents who are living with dementia. The range of people we support is wide, and it means we plan around the individual rather than the category. We start with how somebody communicates, what they enjoy, what they find difficult and what they want to be able to do. Some people need help with most of the day and others need very little, and we are careful that helping does not turn into taking over. The building and the routine matter as much as the support itself. Accessible spaces, clear layouts, quiet areas and a predictable shape to the day remove a great deal of unnecessary difficulty. For residents living with dementia, familiar surroundings and unhurried staff do more good than anything else we could offer. People here keep their outside lives going, with family, friends, work, college and long standing interests. Respite stays are available so that families can take a planned break. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. Please get in touch if you would like to look round.

We are Belgrave Lodge, a residential care home in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities or autism, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Respite stays are available. That is a wide range of needs living under one roof, and it only works if we plan properly. Somebody who wants a sociable, busy day and somebody who needs quiet and an entirely predictable routine can both live well here, provided we pay attention to who needs what and when. So we ask, we observe, and we adapt rather than running everyone to the same timetable. The help itself covers personal care, medication, meals and mobility, and we are just as concerned with supporting what people can still do themselves. Independence lost unnecessarily is very hard to get back, and it is often what people fear most about moving in. Families and friends are welcome at any reasonable hour. We keep relatives informed about changes rather than waiting to be asked, and if something has gone wrong we say so and explain what we have done about it. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please ring us and come and see the home at a normal busy time of day.

Here at The Chestnuts in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, we provide residential care for a range of people with different needs and circumstances. Our home supports older adults, people living with dementia, individuals with physical disabilities, and those with visual or hearing impairments. We also welcome younger adults and offer respite stays for those who need short term support while their usual carers take a well earned break. We know that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we do not take that responsibility lightly. From the moment someone walks through our door, we try to make them feel genuinely at home. That means listening carefully to each person, understanding their routines, their preferences, and what matters most to them day to day. For residents living with dementia, we work hard to create an environment that feels calm, familiar and safe, while still encouraging independence and meaningful activity wherever possible. For those with physical disabilities or sensory impairments, we think carefully about how we can remove barriers and make life as comfortable and fulfilling as it can be. We want to be straightforward with the people who come to us. Our most recent CQC inspection resulted in a requires improvement rating, and we are taking that seriously. We have been working through the areas identified and making real changes to how we operate. We believe families deserve honesty, and we would rather have an open conversation about where we are and where we are heading than paper over any difficulties. If you would like to visit The Chestnuts, meet the team, or simply have a chat about whether we might be the right fit for your loved one, please do get in touch. We are always happy to talk.

We are Kingston House, a residential care home in Canterbury, Kent. We support adults living with dementia, adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, and we also offer respite stays for people who need care for a short period. We want this to be somebody's home rather than a setting they have been placed in. People have their own rooms and their own things, choose how they spend their days, and are supported to keep up with family, friends and the interests they had before they came to us. Where somebody wants to take on more for themselves, we work out the steps with them rather than deciding on their behalf. Everything here rests on knowing people properly. We take time to learn how each person communicates, what helps them feel settled and what tends to go wrong on a difficult day, and we pass that on carefully to new staff before they support anyone alone. Familiarity and predictability matter a great deal to the people we support, so we keep our team as consistent as we can. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep examining our own practice rather than assuming it stands on its own. If you are considering a home in the Canterbury area, please arrange to visit. Meet the people who live here and see how an ordinary week runs.

St Anne's Residential Care Home is in Banbury. We provide care for older people, including those living with dementia and those living with mental ill health, people with a physical disability, people with visual or hearing impairment and some younger adults. Respite stays are available too. Supporting a mixed group under one roof means we cannot run the home to a single pattern, and we do not try. What we aim for is a place where people are taken as they come and where support is built around the individual. Some residents want a very structured day. Others want the opposite, plenty of freedom and somewhere steady to come back to. Where someone has a physical disability or reduced sight or hearing, we pay attention to the practical details. Equipment that suits the person, a layout that stays predictable, things kept where people expect to find them, and staff who adapt how they communicate. With dementia, familiar faces and a steady rhythm do most of the work, and we treat distress as something with a cause. Where mental ill health is part of the picture we work closely with community teams. Respite stays suit family carers needing a break and people recovering after illness. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit St Anne's.

Rosalie is a residential care home in Banbury. We support older people and younger adults who need help with daily living, including people living with dementia, and we take respite bookings for families needing a short break or a period of extra support. The home is run the way a household runs. People rise when they wake, keep their own furniture and photographs with them, choose how the day is spent and carry on with the routines that have always been theirs. Visitors are welcome through the day, and we would much rather relatives dropped in casually than waited for a convenient slot. Dementia care rewards patience and attention to detail, so our staff learn the particulars: the favoured chair, the time of day that is hardest, what settles somebody when they are anxious, the conversations they never tire of having. Very little of that appears in a document, but it is the substance of the work. When a person's needs are shifting we raise it early with the family rather than arriving with a decision already made. The Care Quality Commission has not yet published an overall rating for us. We are glad to talk through how we staff the home, how we train people and how we handle concerns. If you are considering residential or respite care in Oxfordshire, please arrange to visit us.

    • Care Home

We provide short stays at a house on Neithrop Avenue in Banbury, for older people and younger adults who need somewhere properly supported to stay for a while. The people who come to us include those living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities, autistic people, people with physical disabilities and people with loss of sight or hearing. Short breaks do a good deal of quiet work. They give a relative who provides care at home the rest that makes it possible to carry on. They give somebody a change of scene and company they might not otherwise have. They can help a person regain confidence after an illness, and they let a family find out what being supported elsewhere is actually like before any larger decision is made. Because stays are short, we have to learn quickly, so we ask a great deal before somebody arrives: how they like things done, what settles them, what they would rather do without and who they want us to ring. For people living with dementia and for autistic people, keeping to the person's own routine matters far more than fitting them into ours. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. If you are thinking about a short break for yourself or someone in your family, please get in touch and come and see the house.

    • Care Home

Broadmead is a rest home in Newbury caring for older people, including those living with dementia or mental ill health, and younger adults who need residential support. We are a domestic sort of place rather than an institutional one. Help with washing, dressing, mobility and medication is given quietly and at the time that suits the person, and we take trouble to learn how somebody has always run their day before they move in. Those preferences are written down and staff are expected to follow them. For people living with dementia we keep the day familiar and unhurried, and we use what families tell us about the life behind the person to hold a conversation and to steady things when somebody is anxious. Where mental ill health is part of the picture we work closely with community teams and include the person properly in decisions about their own care. Meals are cooked on the premises and served without hurry. Visitors are welcome whenever they want to come, and we would far rather hear a concern early than late. Short respite stays are available, often to give a carer at home a proper rest or to help somebody regain their footing after a spell in hospital. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see the house on an ordinary day.

We are a residential care home at Tewkesbury, providing a home for older people and younger adults who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia. Our aim is an unhurried house. A good deal of care is spoiled simply by being rushed, so we try to give people the time to wash, dress and eat at their own pace, and to sit with somebody who wants to talk rather than moving straight on to the next task. Residents keep their own rooms, belongings and routines as far as we can manage, and they decide how much they want to be part of whatever is happening. Meals are cooked here and we pay attention when somebody would rather have something different. Dementia care comes down to knowing the person. We ask families to tell us about working life, children, music, faith and old habits, because that knowledge is what allows a member of staff to reassure somebody who is anxious or cannot place where they are. It is worth a great deal more than any written procedure. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. Family and friends are welcome whenever they wish to come. We do not yet hold an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission and are happy to discuss that openly. Please come and see the home for yourself before deciding anything.

What we aim for is a house where people are known rather than managed. That sounds obvious and it takes discipline, because the pressures of a rota pull the other way. It means unrushed help with washing and dressing, medication given reliably, food worth looking forward to and staff who notice when a resident is quieter than usual. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather set that out here than have a family come across it later. Old Sarum Manor is a residential care home in Salisbury caring for older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia, people with a physical disability and people with sight or hearing loss. We aim for a home where people are known properly rather than simply looked after. Help is given with washing and dressing, with moving about safely, with medication and with eating and drinking well, and it is given at the pace of the person. For those living with dementia we keep the day predictable and the surroundings familiar, adjust how we communicate rather than expecting the person to adjust to us, and treat distress as something to be understood. Families usually know a great deal about what works, so we ask and we listen. The home is somewhere people live. Castle View Care Centre is a residential care home in Salisbury, caring for older people who can no longer manage safely at home. We try to keep the atmosphere of a house rather than a unit, with people keeping their own routines, their own belongings and a real say in how their day goes. We support people living with dementia, where a steady and familiar routine is worth more than anything else we could offer, and people managing mental health conditions, where patience and continuity matter enormously. We also care for people living with a physical disability and people with sight or hearing loss, where the right practical adjustments often make more difference to a day than anything clinical. Respite stays are available too, for people who need care for a short while after illness and for family carers who need a genuine break. We plan short stays with the same attention as a permanent move. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take that as the standard to hold rather than an achievement to rest on. The better test is the everyday evidence, whether people are up and occupied, whether mealtimes are sociable and whether relatives feel able to raise a concern early. No 68 Specialist Care is a residential care home in Salisbury in Wiltshire. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for those needing care for a short period. Being a small setting is the point rather than a limitation. Everybody knows everybody, nobody gets lost in a system, and we can genuinely arrange things around the people living here rather than around a rota. Visitors come at the times that suit them, and staff sit down and talk properly rather than passing through on the way to the next task. People here decide when they get up, what they wear, what they eat and whether they want company or their own space with the door shut. We spend the first weeks learning about a person rather than fitting them into our routine: what they did for a living, what they will not be persuaded to eat, what time breakfast has always been. Dementia care rests on patience and a recognisable day. We avoid springing things on people, we keep routines familiar, and when somebody is distressed we go looking for the cause rather than trying to smooth it over. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.

Milford Manor Care Home is a residential care home in Salisbury, Wiltshire. We support older people who need help with daily life, including many living with dementia, as well as people with mental health needs, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment. We also offer respite stays. Moving into a home usually follows a difficult period, so we take the settling in slowly. We ask about the routines somebody has kept for years, the food they actually like and whether they would rather be up early or have a lie in, and we build around that rather than expecting people to adapt to us. Rooms hold people's own furniture and photographs, and we knock before we come in. Days here are not heavily timetabled. Company, conversation and a walk in the garden for those who want it, the newspaper and quiet for those who do not. For residents living with dementia, familiarity does most of the work, so we keep staffing settled and learn each person's history properly. Where somebody has limited sight or hearing, we make sure the way we approach and speak to them takes account of it. Health needs are managed with local GPs and community nurses, and families hear from us early when anything changes. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Residents decide when they get up and go to bed, where they spend the day, what they eat and whether they want company or a quiet afternoon on their own. For residents living with dementia we keep the house familiar and the staff consistent, explain what is happening as we go and take time to work out what lies behind a change in mood. For residents with mental health needs, a calm household and staff who know a person well enough to notice a change matter more than anything written in a plan, and we work with local services and doctors. Where there is a physical disability the right equipment is in place, and for residents with sight or hearing loss we adapt how we communicate and do not move things without saying so. Meals are cooked here and we ask people what they actually want. Respite stays are available for family carers needing a break. Please ring us if you would like to come and look round.

    • Care Home

Bemerton Lodge is a residential care home in Salisbury, Wiltshire. We are home to older people and to younger adults who need support with daily life, including a good number of people living with dementia. What we offer is residential care rather than nursing. Staff are here through the night as well as the day to help with washing, dressing, medication and meals, while doctors and district nurses come in when clinical care is needed. For most people that combination works well, and it leaves far more of their independence intact than a clinical setting would. Dementia care is central to what we do, and we approach it by getting to know the person rather than the diagnosis. Somebody who worked nights for thirty years, or who has always needed the wireless on to settle, will tell us more about how to support them than any assessment. We keep the day in a familiar order, keep the staff group as steady as we can, and go with the person rather than correcting them. Salisbury is a good city to grow old in, and we help people get out into it and keep up with the things and the people that matter to them. Respite and short stays are available for planned breaks and for recovery. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. You are welcome to come and look round.

    • Care Home

Wilton Place Care Home is a residential home in Salisbury, Wiltshire, supporting older people and younger adults, including many people living with dementia. Everybody who moves in arrives with a whole life behind them and fully intends to go on having one. So we ask about it. The work somebody did, the people they mind about, the routines that have shaped their days for decades, the things they are private about and the things they are proud of. We write it down, we use it, and we keep correcting it as we learn, because the notes made in the first fortnight are always the least accurate. The rest is ordinary things done consistently. Getting up when you want to. Meals worth turning up for. Being helped with washing and dressing in a way that leaves your dignity where it belongs. Somebody sitting with you when the afternoon drags. For residents living with dementia we work with the reality they are in rather than correcting it repeatedly, and families are usually the source of what proves most useful. Respite stays are available. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and visitors are welcome.

Oak Park Care Home is a residential care home in Dewsbury, in the Kirklees district. The people living here include older people, many of them living with dementia, along with younger adults, people with a physical disability, people with sight or hearing loss and people managing mental health conditions. Respite stays are available. Because our residents need quite different things from us, support is planned with each person rather than run to a single pattern. People keep their own rooms, their own belongings and their own routines, and they decide how much of the day to spend in company and how much on their own. We ask about the small preferences in detail and expect our staff to follow them, since those details are most of what makes a place feel like home. For residents living with dementia, consistency helps more than anything. Familiar staff, routines that change only when there is a reason, and the patience to understand what somebody means when words have become unreliable. Where people have sight or hearing loss we take particular care over how we communicate, so that nobody is left out of what is going on around them. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take it as evidence that the everyday work is being done properly and we keep looking at the detail. If you are considering a care home in this area for someone close to you, you are welcome to visit and ask us anything you like.

York House is a residential care home in Dewsbury. We provide care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we also support some younger adults. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. We aim for an ordinary, comfortable household. Residents get up when they wake, eat what they actually enjoy and spend their days as they choose. Some are sociable and are downstairs from breakfast onwards. Others would rather have their own room, their own television and a quiet word with somebody who is not in a hurry. Both are perfectly reasonable and neither needs explaining. People usually arrive having struggled at home for a while, and the first few weeks are about settling rather than fitting in. We learn routines rather than imposing them, and we encourage people to bring their own furniture and pictures so a room becomes theirs quickly. Dementia care here rests on familiar staff, a steady rhythm and knowing something of a person's earlier life. Families often supply the detail that explains everything, and we ask for it early. Where somebody is distressed, we look for the cause. Having younger adults living here as well means we are careful not to let anyone's day drift into a pattern built around much older residents. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit York House.

    • Care Home

Ashworth Grange is a residential care home in Dewsbury, supporting older people from across Kirklees, including many people living with dementia. Our ambition here is unfashionably plain. We want the ordinary days to be good ones. Food cooked in our own kitchen that people look forward to. Personal care given calmly and in private. Medication managed properly. Warm rooms that look like they belong to the person in them. Somebody awake at night. Enough going on in the house that there is a reason to come downstairs, and no pressure on anyone who would rather not. People keep their own habits wherever we can arrange it. A home that insists everybody rises at the same hour and bathes on a schedule has stopped being a home and become a timetable with beds in it. Dementia care is most of what we do and we have clear views about it. Correcting somebody about the year, or about where a long dead spouse has got to, helps nobody. Familiar staff, a calm and unhurried house, and knowing enough of a person's life to find the thread of a conversation help enormously. Relatives are the best source of that history and we ask for it early. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We would rather keep improving than defend a grade. Come and see us at a busy time of day and ask the residents what they think.

Watersmead is a care home in Westbury, Wiltshire. We provide residential care for older people, and we support people living with dementia and people with a physical disability. We are able to support younger adults as well, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. A care home only works if it belongs to the people living in it. Residents here decide how their rooms look, when they get up, whether they eat in the dining room or in their own space, and how much of the day they want to spend in company. Our staff are there to make those choices possible, not to move people through a timetable. Dementia support is a large part of what we do. We look for the reason behind distress rather than treating it as behaviour to be contained, and we keep surroundings, routines and faces as familiar as we can. Families tell us what mattered to the person before we ever met them, and that history shapes how we care for them now. Respite matters just as much. A carer who is worn out needs a genuine break, and the person staying with us needs a welcome rather than a waiting room. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We are glad of it, and we keep working at the things the report and our own residents tell us could be better. Anyone thinking about care in this part of Wiltshire is welcome to visit and see the home for themselves.

Limetrees is a residential care home in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, providing care for older people, including those living with dementia, as well as shorter respite stays. We aim for a calm, unhurried house. A great deal of good care comes down to timing and attention, so we make sure people can get up and go to bed when it suits them, eat what they actually like, and spend the day in company or quietly on their own as they prefer. Our staff support people with washing, dressing, mobility, medication and meals, and we watch carefully for changes in health so that a doctor or district nurse is involved early rather than late. For residents living with dementia, familiarity is everything. We keep routines steady, we keep the same faces around wherever we can, and we take the time to understand what is behind a moment of confusion or upset instead of simply managing it. Personal belongings, photographs and small habits from home all help someone feel settled here. Respite stays are welcome and we treat them with the same care as a permanent move, whether a family carer needs a planned break or someone needs support for a few weeks after being unwell. Shrewsbury and the surrounding Shropshire countryside are part of life here. If you would like to look round Limetrees, please get in touch.

Hartlands Residential Home is a care home in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. We provide residential care for people living with dementia and for others who need support with daily life, and we offer respite stays for people recovering from illness or giving a family carer a break. Because so much of our work is dementia care, we have built the way we run the house around it. Surroundings stay familiar and uncluttered, routines stay steady, and we keep our team as settled as we can, because a face somebody recognises does more good than almost anything else we could offer. We learn each person's history properly, which is what allows us to make sense of what they are telling us rather than simply correcting them. When a resident becomes distressed, we look for what lies behind it, whether that is pain, noise, hunger, boredom, needing the lavatory or simply wanting reassurance, instead of treating the distress itself as the problem to be managed. People here still choose their own day. When to get up, what to eat, whether to join in or keep to their own room. Rooms hold their own furniture and photographs. We work with local GPs and community nurses, and we keep families closely informed, including when the news is hard. The Care Quality Commission rated us good overall at our most recent inspection. Briarfields is a residential care home in Shrewsbury. We support older people who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia and those living with sight or hearing loss, along with younger adults who need a supportive household. Respite stays are available as well. What we aim for is an ordinary life with help attached rather than a routine everybody has to fit into. Residents decide when to get up, where to sit, whether they want company or quiet, and what they would like to eat. We help with personal care, dressing, medication and mobility, doing only as much as somebody actually needs, because taking over is easy and rarely helpful. Dementia care is a large part of our work, and the practical side of it is unglamorous. Keeping the daily rhythm and surroundings consistent. Giving somebody time to find their words instead of finishing their sentence. Knowing enough about a person's earlier life to understand what a worry is really about. Families hold most of that knowledge and we ask for it early rather than guessing. For residents living with sight or hearing loss, unhurried communication and a thoughtfully arranged environment make most of the difference, and we take time over both. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Come and see us on an ordinary afternoon and ask us the awkward questions as well as the easy ones.

We are a residential home in Shrewsbury, providing a home for older people who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia and people with mental health needs. Dementia care rests on knowing the person rather than following a procedure, so we ask families to tell us about working life, children, music, faith and old habits. That knowledge is worth more than any written plan when somebody is frightened or cannot place where they are. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was requires improvement. We would rather tell you that ourselves than leave you to find it later. We are working through what the inspectors raised and are willing to go through the report with anyone considering the home. Please come and see the place as it really is. Talking to the people who live here, and to their families, will tell you more than we can.

We are a residential care home in Shaftesbury, providing a home for older people who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia. A planned break can be what allows a relative to keep providing care at home for longer. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Bridge House is a residential home in Bury. Those living here include older people, many living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. We support younger adults too, and we offer respite stays. We keep our eye on the things that are easy to let slide: nails, hair, clean spectacles, a favourite cardigan coming back from the wash. Neglect shows up there first. Where a resident communicates differently, whether because of a sensory impairment or for another reason, we deal with that properly rather than half doing it. Our most recent inspection gave us an overall rating of requires improvement. We accept what was found, we are working on it, and we will not pretend in a paragraph that it is finished. Night time matters as much as the day. People who are awake at three in the morning should find somebody willing to sit and talk rather than somebody waiting for them to settle. We are Brookdale Care Home in Bury. We provide residential care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we take respite bookings for shorter stays. We have kept our focus clear rather than trying to be all things to everyone. Residential care for older people is what we do, and dementia care is a large part of it. Doing that well depends on knowing each person properly: their history, the work they did, the family names, the things that comfort them and the things that reliably unsettle them. Staff who carry that knowledge are the ones who can head off distress before it takes hold, and who notice quickly when somebody is unwell. Beyond that, much of what makes a day here good is quite unremarkable. A decent breakfast at a time that suits you. Your own chair and your own belongings. The garden when the weather allows. Company if you want it and quiet if you would rather, and somebody with the time to sit down and properly listen. We also support people to keep hold of what they can still manage themselves, and to keep up the connections they already have locally. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please ring us and come and see the home.

Choices for Living Well at Killelea in Bury provides both residential and nursing care for a broad range of adults. Most of our residents are older people, and we also support adults with mental health needs, people with a physical disability, residents living with sight or hearing loss and younger adults whose needs are best met in a home like ours. Having nursing on site matters, because it means that if somebody's health needs change they do not have to move somewhere unfamiliar. Nurses are on duty day and night, so medication, wound and pressure care and conditions that need close monitoring are managed here. Many residents are living with dementia. We keep the day calm and familiar, keep the same staff working with the same people and take time to understand what somebody means when speech has become difficult. For residents with mental health needs a calm household and staff who notice when something has shifted do most of the good. Where there is a physical disability the right equipment is in place, and for residents with sight or hearing loss we adapt how we communicate. Residents still choose when they get up, what they eat, where they sit and who visits. Respite stays are available. Please contact us if you would like to visit and see how we work.

Residents keep their own routines as far as they can, meals are a real part of the day with an alternative always available, and there is time here for a proper conversation. People are encouraged to bring their own furniture and pictures, because a room only becomes yours once your own things are in it. Dementia care begins with knowing the person. A resident's working life, their family, their habits and what has always comforted them tell us far more about how to support them than any general guidance could. When someone becomes unsettled we look for the reason rather than reaching for a routine response, and we usually find it in something specific. Respite stays give family carers a genuine break and give guests a real welcome into the life of the house rather than a spare bed at the edge of it. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection, and we keep asking residents and their families what could be better. You are very welcome to visit us on an ordinary day.

    • Care Home

Ash Cottage is a residential care home in Bury. We are a permanent home to older people, many of whom are living with dementia, and we also offer respite stays for those needing care for a short period or whose family carer needs a break. We help with the things that have become difficult: getting washed and dressed, moving about safely, medication given properly and on time, eating and drinking well, and having somebody nearby through the night. Where dementia is part of the picture it shapes the whole house rather than one corner of it. We keep the day recognisable, keep familiar staff around people, let residents hold on to their own belongings and habits, and sit with somebody who is upset instead of trying to talk them out of it. We should be straightforward with you. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather tell you that here than let you find it elsewhere. We know what the inspectors raised with us, we are working through it, and we are willing to discuss any part of it with families and professionals who ask. What we are working towards is a small house that feels like a home, with food cooked on the premises and visitors welcome without appointment. Please come and see us and ask the difficult questions.

The Cyder Barn is a residential care home in Glastonbury. We support older people, including those living with dementia and those whose physical disability means they need help to move about safely, and we also support younger adults. The care we give is practical and personal: help with washing and dressing, medication managed properly, meals prepared on the premises, and support to keep doing the things that matter, whether that is a walk, a regular visit from family or a particular programme on the television. We keep routines familiar for residents living with dementia, and we take the time that safe, comfortable moving and handling actually requires. We will be honest about our standing. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We have been working through the points raised, particularly around documentation, staff supervision and consistency of care planning, and we would encourage anyone considering the home to ask us about that directly rather than take our word for it. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Glastonbury and the surrounding villages are where most of our families come from and visitors are welcome at any reasonable hour. Please ring if you would like to look round and meet the team.

    • Care Home

We are Cathedral View, a residential care home in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. Respite stays are available. That is a range of needs living under one roof, and it only works if we plan around individuals rather than running one routine for everyone. Somebody who wants a sociable, busy day and somebody who needs quiet and an entirely predictable rhythm can both live well here, provided we pay attention to who needs what and when. So we ask, we observe, and we adapt. The help itself covers personal care, medication, meals and mobility, and we are just as concerned with standing back where somebody can manage for themselves. If a thing takes longer done independently, that is their time and their choice. For people living with dementia, the useful work is in the detail: knowing a person's history, recognising early what unsettles them, going at their pace rather than the rota's. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families and friends are welcome at any reasonable hour. Please ring us if you would like to look round.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Bury

The support these homes are registered to provide

Dementia changes what somebody needs help with, and it changes it repeatedly. The 109 providers on this page are registered as residential care homes, offering personal care such as help with washing, dressing, medication, meals and moving about, with staff on the premises at all hours. Nursing sits outside that registration and requires a home with registered nurses on duty. Because dementia can bring clinical needs alongside the everyday ones, especially in its later stages, it is worth establishing which registration a person requires before spending time on visits.

Reading the inspection picture

Among these homes the ratings recorded are Good, Requires Improvement and Inadequate, with some services carrying no rating yet because they registered too recently to have been inspected. Use the word as a way of ordering a long list rather than as a verdict on whether a home will suit one particular person, and check the date it was awarded, since a home can change hands and change entirely between visits from inspectors. The report underneath is where the detail lives. For dementia in particular, look at what was written about staffing levels, how the home responds when someone becomes distressed, whether restraint or medication is relied upon, and whether people appeared genuinely occupied.

What a visit shows that paperwork cannot

Go at an awkward hour rather than a convenient one, and stay through a mealtime if you can. Watch whether staff crouch to speak at eye level, whether they use the person's name, and how they respond to a question asked for the fourth time. Ask how long the senior carers have been in post and what proportion of shifts a normal week is covered by agency staff, because a familiar face is worth more to someone with memory difficulties than any amount of new carpet. Look at whether the building helps or hinders: clear sightlines, signage that makes sense, somewhere safe to walk. Ask what happens when a resident wants to go home, and listen carefully to the answer.

Choosing between dementia care homes in Bury

Requesting an assessment of need

Anyone who appears to need care and support may ask for an assessment, and it is carried out by Bury Metropolitan Borough Council Adult Social Care as the authority responsible for assessing need and agreeing funded support. It is free, does not depend on savings, and can be requested by the person concerned, a relative or a professional such as a general practitioner. The practitioner will go through daily living, mobility, medication, nutrition and safety, and will want to understand what relatives have been managing. Carers may request an assessment in their own right, which is worth doing where the strain at home has been building for some time.

Fees, contributions and the extras

Money is settled by a process separate from need. Once a residential placement is agreed as appropriate, a financial assessment of income and capital determines what the person contributes towards the weekly fee and whether public funds meet any part of it. Fees differ between the homes listed here according to the room, the staffing and the level of support required, so ask each one for a written schedule and establish what falls outside it, since hairdressing, chiropody and transport are routinely charged on top. Where a property is owned but cannot be sold quickly, ask Bury Metropolitan Borough Council about a deferred payment arrangement.

Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Bury

How many dementia care homes are there in Bury?

Bury has 109 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 244 CQC registered care homes in Bury: 76 Good, 25 Requires improvement, 2 Inadequate, 6 not yet rated. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.

Which dementia care homes in Bury were inspected most recently?

Meadow View Residential Care Home (30 September 2026), Littlebourne House Residential Care Home (29 September 2026) and The Beeches Residential Home (28 September 2026) have the most recent CQC reports.

Which homes in Bury are listed as offering dementia care?

109 residential care homes registered with the Care Quality Commission match this search, and each has a profile you can open from this page. Vacancies change from week to week, so a home shown here may have nothing available when you telephone. Narrowing the field by rating and location before ringing round will save a good deal of time. Every profile carries the inspection history, so most of the comparing can be done in advance.

What should I ask when visiting a dementia care home?

Ask how long the senior carers have been in post and how many shifts in a typical week are covered by agency staff, because familiar faces matter enormously. Ask what the home does when a resident becomes distressed or wants to leave, and how often medication is used in those situations. Ask to see the most recent inspection report and then ask the manager what has changed since it was written. Try to be there at a mealtime, since half an hour in the dining room shows you more than any tour.

How does a dementia care home differ from a dementia nursing home?

Every provider on this page is registered as a residential care home, which covers personal care such as help with washing, dressing, medication and meals. A nursing home carries a further registration and keeps registered nurses on duty, which is what someone needs for wound care, injections, a feeding tube or clinical observation overnight. As dementia advances, clinical needs sometimes develop that a residential home cannot meet, and a move may become necessary. Asking a home how it handles changing needs, and at what point it would no longer be able to care for someone, is worth doing at the outset.

Will Bury Metropolitan Borough Council fund a dementia care home placement?

It may, where the care needs assessment concludes that a residential placement is the right way to meet the person's needs. A financial assessment of income and capital then establishes their contribution towards the weekly fee and whether public funds cover any remainder. Some people are funded in full, others meet part of the cost, and others pay privately throughout. Where a home is owned but not readily sold, ask Bury Metropolitan Borough Council about a deferred payment agreement.

How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Bury?

Contact Bury Metropolitan Borough Council and ask for an adult social care needs assessment, which the person themselves, a relative or a professional such as a district nurse may all request. It is free of charge and no savings threshold has to be crossed beforehand. A practitioner will talk through washing, dressing, mobility, medication, eating and the support the family is already giving. If you are the carer, ask for a carer's assessment at the same time, particularly where the situation at home has become difficult to sustain.

How early should families start looking?

Begin sooner than feels necessary, because the needs assessment, the financial assessment and any funding decision each take time before a placement can be confirmed. Homes with good reputations frequently keep waiting lists, and rooms available at short notice are not always in the places you would choose. Dementia also tends to move in steps rather than smoothly, so a situation that seems stable can change within weeks. Visiting three or four homes while there is no pressure makes a later decision considerably easier to face.
