- Care Home
We are Woodleigh House, a residential care home in Rossendale, Lancashire, and our starting point is always the person rather than the diagnosis. People come to us for many different reasons. We provide residential care for adults who need help with the practical parts of daily life, along with specialist support for those living with dementia. We also support adults with a learning disability or autism, people with a physical disability, and residents who have a visual or hearing impairment, adapting how we communicate and how the house is arranged so that everyone can take a full part in it. Life here is built around ordinary things. Residents choose when they get up, what they eat, where they spend their time and who they see, and we plan support around those preferences rather than around a fixed routine. Our team works closely with families, district nurses, social workers and other health professionals so that changing needs are noticed early and dealt with calmly. We also offer respite care, which gives families a planned break and gives the person staying with us the chance to enjoy company, meals and activity in a setting where they are properly looked after. Short stays are arranged with the same thought and planning as a permanent move. Rossendale is a friendly part of Lancashire and we like to stay connected to it, whether that means a trip out, a visit from someone local, or simply keeping the door open to friends and family. If you would like to look around, please get in touch.

- Care Home
We are a residential care home in Rossendale, providing a home for older people who need support to get comfortably through the day. We try to keep the feel of a household rather than a facility, with people bringing their own belongings and keeping to their own rhythms where they can. We help with personal care, mobility, meals and medication, and we care for people living with dementia, where familiar staff and unhurried time do more good than anything more elaborate. Respite stays are available too, whether to give a family carer a genuine break or to let someone try the home for a short period before any longer decision. We would rather be plain about inspection than quiet about it. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. That is not where we want to be and we are not going to present it otherwise. Particular things were found wanting, work is under way on them, and the fair test is whether you can see and feel the difference when you visit. So please do visit. Walk round, talk to the people who live and work here, and ask us directly what was found and what has changed since. That is the only reliable way to judge somewhere for someone you care about.

- Care Home
Hill View Care Home is a residential home in Rossendale. We care for older people who need support with daily living, including those living with dementia, those living with mental health conditions and those whose physical disability means they need help to move about safely. We also support some younger adults. What we provide is help with the everyday: assistance to wash and dress, medication given properly and on time, meals cooked here, support to move about safely and staff available through the night. Around that, residents arrange their own days. For residents living with dementia we keep the rhythm of the day predictable and the staff around them consistent. For people living with mental health conditions, consistency and staff who stay steady when things are difficult count for a great deal. Where people need help to move, we take the time doing it safely and comfortably requires. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families across Lancashire are welcome to visit.

- Care Home
Holme Manor Care Home is a residential home in Rossendale, Lancashire. We are a permanent home to older people, and we also offer respite stays for those who need care for a short period or whose family carer needs a break. Most of our residents need help with washing and dressing, moving about safely, medication and meals, and reassurance that somebody is nearby at night. Many are living with dementia, and we let that shape the whole house rather than treating it as a separate wing. The day follows a recognisable pattern, familiar staff are around, people keep their own belongings and habits, and somebody who is anxious gets company and time rather than correction. We also support people living with mental ill health, working alongside community mental health colleagues so that what happens here fits with the rest of a person's care. Food is cooked on the premises and people are asked what they would like rather than told what there is. There is somewhere sociable to sit and somewhere quiet, the valley views are worth having, and visitors do not need an appointment. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Deciding on a care home is not something to do from a brochure, so please come and visit and talk to whoever is on duty.

Here at Lumb Valley Care Home, we provide residential care for people across a range of needs, right in the heart of Rossendale, Lancashire. We support older adults, people living with dementia, those with mental health needs, physical disabilities, and visual or hearing impairments. We also welcome younger adults and offer respite care for those who need a short term stay. We are proud to have received a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the genuine effort our team puts in every day to make sure the people living here feel safe, respected, and at home. Dementia care sits at the heart of much of what we do. We understand that a dementia diagnosis affects not just the individual but the whole family, and we work hard to make sure our approach is consistent, thoughtful, and built around the person rather than the condition. The same applies to everyone we support, whatever their needs may be. For families considering respite care, we know it can feel like a big decision to hand over the care of someone you love, even temporarily. We take that responsibility seriously and aim to make every short stay as comfortable and familiar as possible. Our team genuinely gets to know the people who live here, their histories, their preferences, and the little things that matter to them. That kind of relationship makes a real difference to daily life and to the confidence families feel when they trust us with someone they care about. If you would like to find out more about whether Lumb Valley Care Home might be the right fit for you or your loved one, we would encourage you to come and visit us. - Care Home
Haslingden Hall and the Lodge is a residential care home in Rossendale, Lancashire. We are home to older people and to younger adults who need support with daily living, including people living with dementia and people with physical disabilities. The care we give is residential rather than nursing. Staff are here day and night to help with personal care, dressing, medication and meals and to keep the household running, while local doctors and district nurses look after clinical needs. For most people that combination works well and leaves their independence largely intact. Dementia care rests on consistency and on knowing the person. A day that runs in a familiar order, the same faces and surroundings that are easy to make sense of will settle somebody more reliably than any activity programme. We take time to learn about a person's working life, family and habits, because that is what helps us understand them when words become difficult. For residents with a physical disability, time is what matters most. Transfers and personal care take as long as they take, and rushing is where dignity and safety are both lost. Respite and short stays are available. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. You are welcome to come and look round.

- Care Home
Lindens Rest Home is a residential care home in Rossendale, Lancashire. We care for older people, including many residents living with dementia, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment, and we offer respite stays. As a residential setting our work is everyday life supported properly, with general practitioners, district nurses and other community professionals brought in when they are needed. The quality of a care home shows in ordinary moments rather than in anything written about it. Whether a person is helped to get up at the hour they would choose. Whether the food is worth looking forward to. Whether the person helping you wash knows your name and something of your history. Whether anybody notices when you are out of sorts and acts on it. For residents living with dementia we keep staffing steady and the day predictable, and we ask families for the details of a life that make conversation possible. Where sight or hearing is poor we check that aids are working and adapt how we communicate. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Nestled within the scenic surroundings of the North West, our home provides a comforting base for residents seeking companionship, support, and personalised care. Our location within the BB postcode area places us amidst the characterful landscapes of Rossendale, making it easy for family and friends from across Lancashire and beyond to visit. The setting offers a peaceful atmosphere whilst remaining connected to the wider local community, giving residents the best of both worlds: tranquillity and accessibility. At the heart of what we do is a genuine commitment to older person care, delivered with dignity and warmth. We understand that every resident brings a lifetime of memories, preferences, and personality, and our approach is shaped around honouring that individuality. Alongside general residential care, we welcome those living with dementia, offering a familiar and gently structured environment that helps residents feel safe, understood, and valued. Our team takes time to learn each person's story, so that daily routines, conversations, and moments of connection feel meaningful. We also support residents living with mental health needs and physical disabilities, providing compassionate assistance that promotes independence wherever possible. From help with everyday tasks to encouragement in maintaining hobbies and interests, our aim is always to enhance quality of life rather than simply meet basic needs. For families who need short term support, our respite care option provides a reassuring solution, whether following a hospital stay, during a family holiday, or simply to give a loved one a change of scene with the full comfort of professional care around them. Choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we believe honesty and transparency are essential parts of that journey. Our most recent CQC inspection resulted in an overall rating of Requires Improvement, and we want families to have a clear picture of what that means. The Caring domain was rated Good, reflecting the kindness, compassion, and respect that our team brings to daily interactions with residents. This is the heartbeat of our home, and something we are deeply proud of. The domains of Safe, Effective, Responsive, and Well led were rated Requires Improvement, and we take these findings seriously. Ratings such as these are an opportunity for reflection and progress, and we remain committed to listening, learning, and strengthening the way we work so that every aspect of life at Abbeycroft matches the warmth our residents already experience from those who care for them. Families are always welcome to speak with us openly about our approach, our improvements, and what daily life looks like for their loved one. We warmly invite families exploring care options in Rossendale to get in touch, arrange a visit, and see for themselves the atmosphere within our home. Meeting the team, walking through our communal spaces, and asking the questions that matter most to you is the best way to know whether Abbeycroft is the right fit for your loved one. Whether you are planning ahead, navigating a sudden change in circumstances, or seeking a short respite stay, we are here to listen with understanding and guide you gently through every step.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Rossendale
Reading the reports carefully
Seven homes here hold a Good rating and two are at Requires Improvement. Rather than stopping at the overall word, open the report and look at the caring and responsive sections, which is where inspectors describe how staff handle distress, restraint and personal dignity. Where a home has been marked down, check which of the five key questions fell short and whether it has been inspected since.
What the building tells you
Layout matters enormously in dementia care. Look for clear sight lines from communal areas, doors and bathrooms that are easy to identify, contrast between floors and walls, and a safe outdoor space residents can use without asking permission. A corridor that loops rather than dead ends helps someone who walks a great deal. Notice lighting and noise levels too, since glare and constant background sound unsettle people considerably.
Questions that reveal how staff work
Ask what dementia training staff receive and how recently it was refreshed. Ask how the home responds when someone is anxious or wants to leave, and listen for answers describing distraction, reassurance and company rather than medication. Ask how life history is gathered and used, because knowing a person worked nights or hated crowds shapes care far more than a diagnosis does.
Choosing between dementia care homes in Rossendale
The assessment of need
Anyone who appears to need care and support has a right to a free assessment, whatever their savings. Where dementia is involved, the assessment should capture more than physical tasks, recording how the person responds to unfamiliar surroundings, whether they walk with purpose and need space to do so safely, and what times of day are hardest. Ask for a carer assessment alongside it if a relative has been holding things together at home.
Who pays
A financial assessment follows. Capital above the national threshold means funding a placement privately, while people below it receive a contribution towards the weekly fee, with property disregarded in some circumstances. Both assessments are arranged through Lancashire County Council adult social care, which also commissions funded placements. Where dementia is advanced and health needs are significant, ask about NHS continuing healthcare as well.
What the fees include
Weekly fees differ by home and by room, and homes with dedicated dementia units sometimes charge more because of higher staffing levels. Ask for a written breakdown of what the fee covers and what is billed separately, and ask specifically whether one to one support is included if the person needs close supervision for a time.
Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Rossendale
How many dementia care homes are there in Rossendale?
Rossendale has 9 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 11 CQC registered care homes in Rossendale: 7 Good, 2 Requires improvement. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.
Which dementia care homes in Rossendale were inspected most recently?
Cherry Tree Lodge Private Residential Care Home (15 February 2023), Highfield Hall (13 September 2022) and Haslingden Hall and the Lodge (29 June 2022) have the most recent CQC reports.
Which providers in Rossendale offer dementia care?
Nine residential care homes registered with the Care Quality Commission are listed on this page, including Highfield Hall, Holme Manor Care Home, Haslingden Hall and the Lodge and Hill View Care Home. Some run a dedicated dementia unit while others support people with dementia across the whole home. All are registered for personal care rather than nursing. Each profile sets out the registration details and the most recent inspection findings.
What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?
A dementia care home provides personal care and supervision for people living with dementia, delivered by trained care staff throughout the day and night. A dementia nursing home offers all of that plus clinical care from registered nurses based on the premises. Every home on this page holds residential registration rather than nursing registration. If the person also needs regular clinical input, such as help with swallowing difficulties or complex medication, a nursing registration is usually the right starting point.
What should I ask when visiting a dementia care home in Rossendale?
Ask what dementia specific training staff have completed and when it was last refreshed. Ask how the team responds when a resident becomes distressed or tries to leave, and whether the answer relies on reassurance and activity rather than medication. Ask how the home records a person's life history and how that shapes their day. Ask to see the outdoor space and to visit again in the late afternoon.
How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Rossendale?
Contact Lancashire County Council adult social care and request an assessment of need for yourself or for a relative acting with their agreement. It is free and open to anyone who appears to need care and support, regardless of income. A practitioner will look at daily living, mobility, medication, memory and safety, usually at home. Ask for a carer assessment at the same time if a family member has been providing regular unpaid care.
Can Lancashire County Council pay towards a dementia placement?
It may, depending on a financial assessment carried out once care needs have been agreed. Savings and capital above the national threshold mean funding the placement privately, while people below it receive a contribution towards the weekly fee. A property is counted in some circumstances and disregarded in others, for instance where a spouse continues to live there. Where dementia brings significant health needs, ask separately about NHS continuing healthcare.
How far in advance should a family start looking?
Where there is any warning at all, beginning a few months ahead is far easier than deciding under pressure. Dementia places in well regarded homes are often in demand, and assessments take time to arrange. Starting early also allows more than one visit, which tells you much more than a single tour. If a hospital discharge is driving the timetable, ask the ward to involve the discharge team.
