- Care Home
Belvedere is a residential care home in Accrington. We provide care for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available. We try to run a household rather than a facility. Residents bring their own furniture and photographs, keep the routines they have always had and decide for themselves how much they want to be part of what is going on. Nobody is walked to an activity they have not chosen. When somebody moves in we take real time over their history and preferences and we write it down so that every member of staff knows it, because care that changes with whoever is on shift is not care we would accept for our own families. Dementia support rests on familiarity and pace. We keep staffing as consistent as we can, avoid unnecessary change and work out what settles a particular resident. Supporting mental health needs means patience and working alongside community teams. Where sight or hearing is failing we pay attention to lighting, contrast, signage and sound, and we check that glasses and hearing aids are being used and looked after. Meals are cooked on the premises and residents have a genuine say in the menu. Visitors are welcome through the day. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see the home and talk to the people living in it.

- Care Home
Pennine View is a care home in Accrington in Lancashire. We provide residential care for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available. We would rather be straight with you from the start. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us as requires improvement. We are not going to write around that. The findings were taken seriously, there is an improvement plan we are working through, and if you come and see us you should ask directly what has changed and what is still outstanding. You will get a plain answer. What has not changed is how we believe people should be treated. This is their home. Residents choose how their rooms look, when they get up, what they do with the day and who comes to see them. Because the people living here have genuinely different needs, we plan care one person at a time rather than running one routine and hoping it stretches. Where sight or hearing loss is part of the picture, habits matter more than equipment: saying who you are as you come into a room, leaving furniture where it belongs, checking that glasses and hearing aids are working. Genuine improvement comes from listening to residents and relatives and then acting rather than recording. That is where our attention sits.

We at Henley House are proud to offer a warm and welcoming residential care home in the heart of Accrington, where every resident is treated with the dignity, kindness, and respect they deserve. Nestled within the Lancashire community, our home provides specialist residential and dementia care in a setting that feels reassuringly familiar from the moment you step through the door. Our location within the BB postcode area places us conveniently within easy reach for families across Accrington and the wider North West region. The home offers a comfortable, homely environment where residents can settle into a rhythm of daily life that suits them, whether that means enjoying quiet moments in peaceful communal areas or spending time with loved ones who visit throughout the week. We have thoughtfully created spaces that balance safety with genuine warmth, so that our home truly feels like home. Our care is shaped around the individual needs of each person who lives with us. We specialise in older person care and residential care, providing the daily support, companionship, and assistance that helps residents maintain their independence and wellbeing. For those living with dementia, our team offers compassionate, person centred support that focuses on preserving identity, encouraging meaningful engagement, and creating moments of joy in everyday routines. We also welcome younger adults who require residential support, ensuring that our approach is always tailored to the person rather than a one size fits all model. For families who need a little breathing space, our respite care offers short term stays in the same nurturing environment as our permanent residents. This can be a wonderful option for those recovering from a hospital stay, for family carers who need time to rest, or simply for anyone wishing to try residential living before making a longer term decision. Whatever brings a resident to us, we aim to make the transition as smooth and reassuring as possible. In practice, this means our team takes time to understand each resident's history, preferences, and daily routines. From favourite meals to cherished hobbies, these small details shape the care we deliver and help residents feel genuinely known and valued. Families are welcomed as partners in care, and we believe that open, honest communication is essential to building trust with the people who matter most to our residents. Following our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection in April 2025, Henley House was rated Good overall, with a rating of Good across every one of the five key domains: safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well led. This consistent recognition reflects the dedication of our team and the standards we uphold every day. For families, it offers reassurance that the care provided here meets the expectations set by the national regulator across every aspect of daily life in our home. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that choice. If you are exploring options for a loved one in Accrington or the surrounding Lancashire area, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please get in touch to arrange a visit, ask any questions you may have, or simply learn more about life at Henley House. Our door is always open, and we look forward to welcoming you.

We are Wellfield, a residential care home in Accrington, Lancashire. We provide a home for older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia, and we also take respite stays. Residential care means supporting people with the parts of daily life that have become hard work and leaving everything else where it belongs, which is with the person themselves. Washing and dressing, meals, medication, moving about safely, and the ordinary company that makes a day worth getting up for. Where health needs go beyond our registration we work alongside district nurses and GPs rather than stretching to cover them. Dementia shapes much of our day. We have found that correcting somebody's account of things achieves nothing, and that knowing who a person has been tells us far more than any list of symptoms. Someone who worked for decades to a particular rhythm often still carries it, and a routine built around that goes better than one imposed on top of it. Respite guests get the same assessment and the same welcome as anyone living here permanently, whether they are recovering after a spell in hospital or giving a family carer a rest. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Moorhead Rest Home is in Accrington, and we provide residential care for older people, including those living with dementia, residents with a physical disability and people with sight or hearing loss. We help with washing and dressing, medication, meals and whatever else has become hard to manage, and we try to leave people in charge of the rest. Residents decide when they get up and go to bed, where they spend the day, what they eat and whether they want company or a quiet afternoon on their own. For residents living with dementia we keep the house familiar and the staff consistent, explain what is happening as we go and take time to work out what is behind a change in mood rather than treating it as a symptom. Where somebody has a physical disability the right equipment is in place and staff are trained to help with moving safely and comfortably. For residents with sight or hearing loss we adapt how we communicate and do not rearrange things without saying so. Meals are cooked here and we ask people what they actually want to eat. Visitors are welcome at any reasonable time, and families are free to stay for a cup of tea or take a relative out. Respite stays are available for family carers needing a break or for somebody recovering after illness. Please ring us if you would like to look round.

Altham Care Home is in Accrington, providing residential care for older people who can no longer manage safely on their own, and supporting younger adults who need residential care. We aim for the feel of a household rather than an institution, with people keeping their own routines, their own belongings and a genuine say in how their day goes. We support people living with dementia, and that work depends on continuity above all. Knowing what somebody's day used to look like, keeping as much of it as we can and understanding what sits behind distress rather than simply managing it is what makes the difference between a settled day and a difficult one. Respite stays are available too, for people who need care for a short period and for family carers who need a proper break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. The better test is the everyday evidence, whether people are up and occupied, whether mealtimes are sociable and whether relatives feel able to raise a concern early.

Mercer Moors is a nursing and residential setting in Accrington in Lancashire. We care for older people and younger adults, including people who need nursing support, people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available too. Being able to offer both residential and nursing care under one roof matters more than it sounds. It means somebody whose health changes does not automatically have to move, and that a person can stay among people and surroundings they know at exactly the point that continuity counts for most. Families frequently tell us this was the thing that mattered to them in the end. Having qualified nurses on site means wounds, pain, continence, nutrition, medication and safe movement are all managed properly, and a good deal that might otherwise involve hospital does not have to. We also guard against clinical care quietly reducing a person to a round of tasks. People choose when they get up, what they wear, what is on the plate and how the afternoon goes. We knock, we explain what we are about to do, and we wait to be told it is all right. Where sight or hearing loss is part of the picture the small habits carry the weight. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission. You are welcome to visit and ask us whatever you need to.

We are White Ash Brook, a residential care home in Accrington. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people living with mental health conditions and people with physical disabilities. Respite stays are available. That is a range of needs living under one roof, and it only works if we plan around individuals rather than running one routine for everyone. Somebody who wants a sociable, busy day and somebody who needs quiet and an entirely predictable rhythm can both live well here, provided we pay attention to who needs what and when. So we ask, we observe, and we adapt. The help itself covers personal care, medication, meals and mobility, and we are just as concerned with standing back where somebody can manage for themselves. If a thing takes longer done independently, that is their time and their choice. For people living with dementia, the useful work is in the detail: knowing a person's history, recognising early what unsettles them, going at their pace rather than the rota's. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families and friends are welcome at any reasonable hour, and we would always rather hear a concern while it is small. Here at Vine House, we provide residential care for older adults in the heart of Accrington, Lancashire. We support people living with dementia, physical disabilities, and visual or hearing impairments, as well as offering respite care for those who need a shorter stay while their usual support arrangements are temporarily unavailable. We know that moving into a care home, or considering one for someone you love, is a significant step. Our aim is to make that transition as straightforward and as comfortable as possible, taking time to understand each person's history, preferences, and routines before they arrive, so that settling in feels natural rather than unsettling. Day to day life at Vine House is shaped around the people who live here. We try to keep things flexible, because not everyone wants the same things from their day, and we think that matters. Whether someone enjoys company and activity or prefers quieter moments and their own space, we work to accommodate that. We are open about the fact that our most recent CQC inspection resulted in a "requires improvement" rating. We have taken that feedback seriously and have been working through the areas identified, making practical changes to how we operate. We believe in being straightforward with families and prospective residents about where we are in that process, rather than glossing over it. Improvement takes consistent effort and we are committed to seeing it through. If you are thinking about care for yourself or a family member, we would genuinely welcome the chance to show you around and answer any questions you might have. We think the best way to get a real sense of Vine House is to come and see it for yourself, meet the team, and spend a little time with us.

Braeside home for the Elderly is a residential care home in Accrington, Lancashire. We support older people and younger adults who need help with everyday life, including residents living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for people who need care for a shorter period or whose family carer needs a break. We try to run this as a house where people live rather than a place where care is administered. Residents tell us when they prefer to get up, what they like to eat, how much help they want with washing and dressing and how they want to spend the day, and the day is built from those answers rather than from a rota that suits us. Support with personal care, meals, medication and appointments is given quietly and with proper regard for privacy. Dementia care runs through a great deal of what we do. We take time to learn a person's history, the people and places that matter to them and the rhythms that help them feel settled, because that knowledge is what allows us to reassure someone who is anxious rather than correct them. We keep the day predictable and explain changes in advance where we can. Independence is protected wherever it exists, and company matters as much as practical help. Families are welcome whenever they want to visit. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

We are Woodlands Home for Older People in Accrington, Lancashire. We provide residential care for older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia, and we also take respite stays. Anything beyond our registration we arrange with district nurses and GPs rather than trying to cover it ourselves, and we are clear with families about where that line falls. Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Accrington
Dementia care is a specialist form of residential support designed for people whose memory, reasoning, or day to day judgement has changed in ways that make living independently difficult. In Accrington there are 11 residential care homes offering this kind of support, and the way they deliver it varies considerably. Some sit within larger buildings with dedicated dementia wings, while others are smaller houses where the whole home is organised around familiar routines and calm surroundings. The right match depends on the person, not just the diagnosis.
What to look for when comparing homes
A well run dementia home tends to feel unhurried. Staff know residents by name, understand their history, and respond to distress with patience rather than correction. Look for signage that helps people orient themselves, secure but pleasant outdoor space, and menus that flex around appetites that come and go. Ask how the team handles nights, how families are involved in care planning, and how the home supports residents as their needs change over time.
How the Accrington providers currently compare
Of the 11 residential homes in Accrington offering dementia support, 7 are rated Good by the Care Quality Commission, including Henley House, Altham Care Home, White Ash Brook, Wellfield, Braeside home for the Elderly Ltd, Belvedere and Woodlands Home for Older People. Three homes, Vine House, Pennine View and Pendle Brook Care Home, currently hold a Requires Improvement rating, and one, Moorhead Rest Home, is rated Inadequate. CQC ratings are a useful starting point, but they are a snapshot rather than the whole story, so read the full reports and visit in person before deciding.
Choosing between dementia care homes in Accrington
Before a placement is agreed, most families go through a care needs assessment. This is a conversation with a social worker or assessor about how the person is coping, what support they already have, and what a good day would look like for them. It is free to request, and it applies whether the family expects to pay privately or hope for local authority help.
Working with Lancashire County Council
For anyone living in Accrington, adult social care sits with Lancashire County Council, which arranges assessments and decides what funded support a person is eligible for. You can request an assessment directly through the council, and a GP or hospital discharge team can also make a referral. If the person has capital below the national threshold, the council may contribute to fees, though a financial assessment will follow the needs assessment to work out who pays what.
Typical costs and what shapes them
Weekly fees for a dementia bed in Accrington vary depending on the home, the size and aspect of the room, and the intensity of care required. Homes will quote for a standard room and add for en suites or larger spaces, and fees may rise if a resident later needs more one to one support. Ask each home for a clear written breakdown of what is and is not included, and check how annual reviews of fees are handled so there are no surprises later.
Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Accrington
How many dementia care homes are there in Accrington?
Accrington has 12 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 20 CQC registered care homes in Accrington: 7 Good, 4 Requires improvement, 1 not yet rated. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.
Which dementia care homes in Accrington were inspected most recently?
Moorhead Rest Home (2 July 2026), Pennine View (27 May 2025) and Henley House (17 April 2025) have the most recent CQC reports.
Which care homes in Accrington offer dementia support?
There are 11 residential care homes in Accrington that support people living with dementia. These include Vine House, Henley House, Pennine View, Altham Care Home, White Ash Brook, Wellfield, Braeside home for the Elderly Ltd, Pendle Brook Care Home, Belvedere, Woodlands Home for Older People and Moorhead Rest Home. Each home has its own atmosphere and approach, so it is worth visiting a shortlist rather than choosing on paper alone.
What should I ask when visiting a dementia care home in Accrington?
Ask how staff get to know each resident's history, preferences and daily rhythms, and how they respond when someone becomes anxious or unsettled. Find out about staffing levels at night, how families are kept informed, and what activities are offered on quieter days. It is also worth asking what happens if needs progress, so you understand whether the home can continue to care for your relative long term.
What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?
A dementia care home is a residential setting where trained staff support people with memory loss and related needs, but nursing tasks are not provided on site. A dementia nursing home has qualified nurses on duty around the clock and is suited to people with more complex medical needs alongside their dementia. All 12 dementia providers listed in Accrington on this page are residential care homes rather than nursing homes. A GP or social worker can help you judge which level is right.
Can Lancashire County Council fund a dementia care home placement in Accrington?
Yes, Lancashire County Council can contribute to the cost of a placement where the person meets both the care needs criteria and the financial assessment thresholds. Savings, property and income are all considered as part of that financial check. If a person qualifies for support, the council will agree a personal budget that reflects their assessed needs. Anyone with higher assets will usually be a self funder, at least initially.
How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Accrington?
You can contact Lancashire County Council's adult social care team directly to request an assessment, either online or by telephone. A GP, community nurse or hospital discharge team can also refer on your behalf, which often helps when things are moving quickly. The assessment is free and does not commit you to any particular outcome. It is the recognised first step before the council will discuss any funded support.
How far in advance should I start looking for a dementia care home?
Where possible, start looking as soon as it becomes clear that support at home is no longer sustainable, rather than waiting for a crisis. Good dementia beds in Accrington do not always come up immediately, and visiting several homes takes time. Beginning early lets you compare options calmly, involve your relative where possible, and put finances and paperwork in order. In urgent situations, hospital teams and the council can help speed things along.
