Bamford Close is a residential care home in Stockport caring for older people, including many living with dementia. Dementia care rewards attention to small things. Knowing that somebody takes their tea strong, that another person wants the curtains open before anything else happens, that a particular song settles a difficult hour. None of that is dramatic and all of it is what makes a day go well. We write these things down, we pass them between shifts, and we keep asking families to tell us more, because they have known the person far longer than we have. We work with the reality a person is in rather than correcting it repeatedly. Somebody who is looking for a parent who died decades ago is usually not asking a factual question, and answering as though they were is rarely kind or effective. What helps is knowing enough about their life to understand what the worry is really about. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Visitors are welcome.

Here at Bruce Lodge, we are proud to be a trusted care home in the heart of Stockport, providing warm and attentive support for older people and their families. We offer residential care, dementia care and respite care, meaning we are well placed to support a range of needs and circumstances. Whether someone is joining us for a short stay to recover or rest, or making Bruce Lodge their long term home, we work hard to ensure every person feels genuinely comfortable, safe and valued here. Dementia care is an area we take seriously. We understand how much it matters to families that their loved one is in an environment where staff truly understand the condition, respond with patience, and create a sense of familiarity and calm. That is exactly what we aim to provide each and every day. For those considering respite care, we know that handing over the care of someone you love, even briefly, is not a decision taken lightly. We do our utmost to make the transition as easy as possible, and many families tell us how reassured they feel once they see their relative settled and happy with us. Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us as Good, which we are genuinely pleased about. It reflects the effort our whole team puts in, and it gives families an independent reassurance that the care we provide meets a solid standard. That said, we never see a Good rating as a reason to stand still. We are always looking at how we can do better. If you would like to find out more about Bruce Lodge or come and have a look around, please do get in touch. We are always happy to have a conversation and help you work out whether we might be the right fit for you or your family member.

Cherryfield House is a residential care home in Stockport for older people, including those living with dementia and residents with a physical disability. We also support some younger adults whose needs suit a home of this kind. We help with washing and dressing, medication, meals and whatever else has become difficult, and we leave people in charge of the rest. Residents decide when they get up and go to bed, where they spend the day, what they eat and whether they want company or a quiet afternoon on their own. For residents living with dementia we keep the house familiar and the staff consistent, explain what is happening as we go and take time to work out what lies behind a change in mood rather than treating it as a symptom. Where somebody has a physical disability the right equipment is in place and staff are trained to help with moving safely and comfortably, without fuss and without taking over. Meals are cooked here and we ask people what they actually want to eat. Visitors are welcome at any reasonable time. Respite stays are available for family carers needing a break or for somebody regaining strength after illness. Please ring us if you would like to come and look round properly.

- Care Home
Davenport Manor Residential Home in Stockport provides residential care for older people, including residents living with dementia, residents with a physical disability and residents with a visual or hearing impairment. We aim to be a comfortable, steady sort of place where staff and residents know one another properly. The day is not run to a rigid timetable. People get up when they are ready, eat food cooked here that is worth looking forward to, and spend their time in company or quietly as they prefer. Where someone has a sensory impairment we pay attention to the details that make a difference. Saying who we are as we come into the room, explaining what is about to happen before we help, keeping belongings where they were left, and making sure nobody is left out of what is going on around them. For residents living with dementia we keep routines familiar and our approach unhurried, and we spend real time learning a person's earlier life, since that is usually what allows us to settle someone who is anxious. Relatives are welcome at any reasonable hour and we would far rather hear a concern from you early than discover it late. We also offer respite stays. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Reinbek is a residential care home in Stockport providing care for older people, including people living with dementia. We offer permanent places and shorter respite stays. We are a home rather than a facility, and we put a fair amount of effort into keeping it that way. People here get up when they wake, eat what they like, and pass the day as they want to. Some are in company from breakfast onwards and some would far rather have a quiet room and the radio on, and neither choice attracts any comment from us. The care covers help with washing and dressing, prompting and administering medication, meals cooked on the premises, support with mobility, and somebody always about when a person wants them. For those living with dementia we keep the routine steady and the faces familiar, and we arrange the house so that it is easy to make sense of. Stockport is home for most of the people living here, and family and friends are welcome whenever they wish to come. Respite can cover a family holiday or a period of recovery after illness. Peel Moat is a residential care home in Stockport. We support older people who need help with daily living, including residents living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for people who need care for a shorter period. We want the home to run around the people in it. Residents keep their own belongings, their own habits and their own opinions, get up when they are ready, and choose how much of the day they spend in company. Support is agreed with each resident, and with their family where they wish, written down, and changed as needs change. We should be honest about our most recent inspection. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather say that here than leave a family to find it out afterwards. We are working through an improvement plan covering the points that were raised, and anyone considering the home is welcome to ask exactly what was found and what has changed since. We will answer plainly. For residents living with dementia, familiar staff and steady routines make the greatest difference, and we ask families to tell us about the person's earlier life so that we can offer reassurance that actually means something. Relatives are welcome throughout the day, and we would far rather hear a concern early than discover a grievance late. If you would like to visit us in Stockport and ask questions, please get in touch.

Priestnall Court is a residential care home in Stockport. We support older people who need help with daily life, including many living with dementia, and people with physical disabilities. We also offer respite stays. We are a home of a size where everybody is properly known, and that is the basis of everything else. Our team notices when somebody eats less than usual, sleeps badly, seems low or becomes unsteady on their feet, and it is dealt with the same day rather than at a review in a month's time. Residents run their own days. When to get up and go to bed, what to eat, whether to sit with others or keep to their own room with their own things around them. Rooms hold people's own furniture and photographs, and nobody comes in without knocking. For residents living with dementia, consistency is what helps most, so we keep staffing settled and learn each person's history properly, which is what lets us make sense of what they are telling us. Where somebody has a physical disability, we work around what they can still do rather than taking over. Health needs are managed alongside local GPs and community nurses, and families hear from us early when anything changes. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please come and visit us in Stockport.

- Care Home
Lisburne Court is a residential care home in Stockport, looking after older people who need help with everyday living rather than nursing care. We offer permanent places and respite stays, and many of our residents live with dementia. We try to keep the emphasis on ordinary life. Residents choose how they spend their time, keep up with family and friends, have a say in what happens in the house, and are supported to do things for themselves wherever they can. Doing something for somebody is nearly always quicker than helping them do it, and nearly always the poorer choice. Our dementia care rests on familiarity and patience. The same staff, a routine that holds its shape, surroundings that make sense, and time given rather than grudged when somebody needs longer to find their words. Where a resident is distressed we try to work out why, because distress is almost always communication of something, whether pain, confusion, boredom or fear. Respite guests are welcomed into the household properly rather than parked at the edge of it. A fortnight with us while a family carer takes a real break should leave both people better off, and that only happens if the stay itself is a good one. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. Come and look round whenever suits you, meet the people living here, and ask them what they make of us.

- Care Home
We at Bryn Haven are proud to offer residential care in the welcoming community of Stockport, providing a warm and supportive home for older people who need a little extra help with daily living. Our residential care home in the SK area of Greater Manchester is here for families across the North West seeking compassionate, considered support for the people they love. Set within the Stockport area, our home offers a comfortable environment where residents can settle into familiar routines whilst enjoying the reassurance of round the clock support. The local setting means loved ones can visit easily, and residents benefit from being part of a community with strong ties to the wider borough. We aim to make every corner of the home feel calm, homely, and welcoming, so that those who live with us feel truly at ease. Our team specialises in older person care, residential care, dementia care, and respite care. For families exploring long term residential support, this means their relative can benefit from a structured, gentle environment where personal preferences are respected and dignity is at the heart of every interaction. For those living with dementia, we take a patient and individualised approach, working to understand each resident's history, personality, and needs so that daily life feels reassuring rather than overwhelming. Our respite care offers a valuable option for family carers who need a short break, providing peace of mind that their loved one is being looked after with warmth and attentiveness during their stay. We recognise that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and honesty about quality matters. Following our most recent CQC inspection in July 2024, Bryn Haven received an overall rating of Requires Improvement. Within that inspection, we were rated Good for being Effective, Responsive, and Well led, reflecting the strength of our care planning, our leadership, and the way we tailor support to each individual. The areas identified as Requires Improvement, Safe and Caring, are ones we are actively addressing with focus and determination, because we believe every resident deserves the very highest standard of support. We view this feedback as an important part of our ongoing commitment to improvement, and we are open to discussing our progress with any family considering our home. If you are exploring care options in Stockport for a parent, partner, or relative, we warmly invite you to get in touch. Choosing the right home takes time, and we are here to answer your questions, listen to your concerns, and help you understand whether Bryn Haven could be the right fit for your loved one. Please reach out to arrange a conversation or a visit, and let us show you the care and community we offer.

We at Brinnington Hall are proud to offer compassionate residential care home living in the heart of Stockport, where every resident is welcomed as part of our extended family. Nestled within the SK postcode area, our home provides a warm and settled base for older people and younger adults alike who need thoughtful, professional support. Our setting in Stockport places us within easy reach for families across the borough and the wider North West, making visits, outings and staying connected with loved ones simple and stress free. The familiar surroundings of the local community help residents feel rooted, whilst our home itself is designed to feel comfortable, safe and genuinely lived in rather than clinical. The breadth of care we provide reflects the real needs of the people who come to live with us. Alongside our core residential and older person care, we offer specialist support for those living with dementia, ensuring routines, environments and interactions are shaped to reduce anxiety and preserve dignity. Our team also supports adults with mental health needs, physical disabilities, and visual or hearing impairments, adapting daily life so that each resident can continue to do what matters most to them, in the way that suits them best. For younger adults who need residential support, we provide a respectful, age appropriate approach that recognises individuality and personal goals. We understand that not every family is looking for a permanent move straight away, which is why we also offer respite care. Whether you need a short stay to recover after a hospital admission, a planned break to give a family carer time to rest, or a trial period to see whether Brinnington Hall feels like the right long term home, our respite provision is designed to be flexible and reassuring. In practice, this range of specialisms means residents benefit from a team used to looking at the whole person rather than a diagnosis. Care plans are built around individual histories, preferences and abilities, and are reviewed as needs change. Families are kept informed and involved, because we know that trust is built through open, honest conversation. Our commitment to quality is reflected in our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection, published following the visit on 4 February 2023, in which Brinnington Hall was rated Good overall. We were rated Good for being Safe, Effective, Caring and Well led, and we are especially proud to have been rated Outstanding for being Responsive. That Responsive rating speaks directly to what families tell us matters most: that care adapts quickly and thoughtfully to each person, that concerns are listened to, and that residents are supported to live the fullest life possible rather than simply being looked after. Choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we never take that lightly. If you are exploring options in Stockport for a loved one, we warmly invite you to get in touch, ask questions and arrange a visit to see our home for yourself. We would be delighted to show you around, introduce you to our team, and talk through how Brinnington Hall could support your family with kindness, expertise and genuine care.

Cawood House is a care home in Stockport. We provide residential care for older people, including people living with dementia, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. Respite deserves more than a passing mention, because it is often what keeps a family going. Carers at home tend to carry on far longer than they should before asking for help, and by the time they do they are frequently exhausted rather than merely tired. A planned stay here gives them room to recover properly, and it gives the person staying a proper welcome rather than a fortnight of being managed. We treat short stays exactly as we treat permanent ones. For permanent residents, the day is theirs. People get up when they want, eat what they want, spend their time where they choose and see visitors when it suits. Rooms belong to the people in them. Supporting somebody with dementia is mostly about steadiness. The same faces, a recognisable rhythm to the day, and staff who understand what lies behind a repeated question. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are looking at care in Stockport, whether for a short stay or a longer one, please come and see us.

Silverdale is a residential care home in Stockport for older people, offering both permanent places and respite stays. We help people with the parts of the day that have become difficult: getting washed and dressed, taking medication on time, eating well, moving safely about the building and having company when they want it. What we are not trying to do is take over. Where somebody can manage something themselves, our part is to make that possible rather than to do it for them. Many of the people who live here are living with dementia. We keep routines predictable, we keep the building easy to navigate, and we give people time. Staff learn what settles a particular person and what unsettles them, and that knowledge is shared rather than kept in one head. Respite bookings give families a genuine break, and they also give the person staying with us a calm and predictable place to be for a while. We keep families informed rather than waiting to be asked, and visitors are welcome at sensible hours without any sense that they are interrupting. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are considering a home in the Stockport area, come and look round and form your own view of us.

Berrycroft Manor is a residential care home in Stockport. We support older people who need help with daily living, including people living with dementia, and we take respite bookings for families needing a short break or a period of extra support. We try to keep the home feeling domestic. People wake in their own time, keep their own belongings around them, decide how the day goes and are not rushed through anything. Meals are meant to be enjoyed rather than got through, and visitors are welcome through the day without arranging it first. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us requires improvement overall. We would rather tell you that plainly than have you come across it somewhere else. We know which areas were flagged, work is under way, and we will go through it honestly with any family considering us or already trusting us with a relative. People making this kind of decision deserve straight answers far more than they deserve a polished paragraph. What we will always do is tell you when something has gone wrong and what we are doing about it, and raise it early when a relative's needs are changing rather than presenting you with a decision already taken. If you are looking at residential or respite care in Stockport, please come and see us and ask us whatever you want to ask.

We are a residential care home in Stockport, providing a home for older people who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia. What we aim for is an unhurried house. A great deal of care goes wrong simply because it is rushed, so we try to give people time to wash, dress and eat at their own pace, and to sit with somebody who wants to talk rather than moving straight on to the next task. Residents keep their own belongings and routines as far as we can manage and decide for themselves how much they want to join in with what is going on. Dementia care, as we understand it, is mostly a matter of knowing the person. We ask families to tell us about working life, children, music, faith and old habits, because that knowledge is what allows a member of staff to reassure somebody who is anxious or cannot place where they are. We offer respite stays as well as permanent places. A planned break can be the thing that allows a relative to keep providing care at home for longer. Bramhall Manor Care Home is a nursing and residential setting in Stockport. We care for older people and younger adults, including people who need nursing support, people living with dementia and people with physical disabilities. Respite stays are available too. We would rather tell you this ourselves. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us as requires improvement. We are not going to write around it. The findings were taken seriously, there is an improvement plan we are working through, and if you visit you should ask us plainly what has changed and what is still outstanding. You will get a plain answer. What has not changed is the value of being able to offer both residential and nursing care under one roof. It means somebody whose health changes does not automatically have to move, and can stay among people and surroundings they know at exactly the point continuity counts for most. Alongside that we work at the ordinary courtesies, because clinical care done without thought reduces a person to a schedule. People choose when they get up, what they wear, what they eat and how the day goes. We knock, we explain, and we wait for an answer. Dementia in particular asks for a familiar day and for us to look for the reason behind distress. Improvement comes from listening to residents and relatives and then acting on what we hear.

- Care Home
We are a residential care home in Stockport supporting older people and younger adults who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia and people with mental health conditions. Supporting that range means paying attention to individuals rather than to categories. Some of the people here need a good deal of help with personal care, medication and moving about. Others need much less of that and a great deal more support with everything else: keeping to arrangements, managing anxiety, getting out of the house and having staff who know when to step in and when to leave well alone. Residents keep their own rooms, belongings and routines as far as we can manage, and they decide how much they want to be part of whatever is happening. Meals are cooked here and we listen when somebody would rather have something different. Where somebody is living with dementia we spend time learning their history and habits, because knowing the person is what settles them when they are frightened. Family and friends are welcome whenever they wish to come. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please come and look round and ask us whatever you need to.

- Care Home
Wellcroft is a residential care home in Stockport, caring for older people from across the borough and the surrounding parts of Greater Manchester. We provide permanent residential places and planned respite stays, and we support residents living with dementia. We aim for a household rather than an institution, and mostly that comes down to pace and attention. There is time here to help someone get ready without hurrying them, time for a proper conversation and time to sit with a resident who is having a difficult afternoon. Meals are a genuine part of the day with an alternative always available, and residents keep their own routines as far as they can. Dementia care starts with knowing the person. A resident's working life, their family, their habits and what has always comforted them tell us far more about how to support them than any general guidance. When someone becomes unsettled we look for the specific reason rather than reaching for a standard response, and we usually find it. Respite stays give family carers a real break and give guests a proper welcome into the life of the house rather than a spare bed at the edge of it. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection, and we keep asking residents and relatives what could be better. You are very welcome to visit us on an ordinary day and see how things really run.

We at Meadway Court are proud to offer a welcoming residential care home in the heart of Stockport, providing compassionate older person care to the local community and beyond. Our home sits within the SK postcode area of Stockport, Greater Manchester, offering families in the North West a familiar and accessible setting for their loved ones. Our home has been thoughtfully arranged to feel comfortable and homely, with communal areas where residents can socialise, quieter corners for those who prefer calm reflection, and personal rooms that residents are encouraged to make their own. Being located in Stockport means residents remain close to the neighbourhoods, landmarks, and community connections they know well, whilst families can visit easily without lengthy journeys. Alongside general residential care for older people, we provide specialist dementia care and short term respite stays. Our approach to dementia care focuses on maintaining dignity, familiarity, and gentle routine, recognising that every person living with dementia has a unique story and set of preferences. For families, this means reassurance that a loved one is understood as an individual, not defined by their diagnosis. Our respite offer provides a valuable option for family carers who need a planned break or who are supporting a loved one through recovery, giving both parties peace of mind whilst maintaining continuity of care. Day to day life at Meadway Court is built around the wellbeing of each resident. From assistance with personal care to companionship at mealtimes, our team aims to blend practical support with genuine warmth, so that residents feel cared for rather than simply looked after. Families are always welcomed as partners in this journey, and open communication is something we value highly. In terms of regulatory oversight, our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection, carried out on 27 March 2025, resulted in an overall rating of Requires Improvement, with each of the five key domains of Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led rated at the same level. We want to be transparent with families about this. A Requires Improvement rating means the CQC has identified areas where we need to strengthen our practice, and we take that feedback seriously as a roadmap for meaningful change. We are committed to listening, learning, and making the improvements needed so that the standard of care we deliver consistently reflects the compassion and professionalism our residents deserve. If you are exploring residential, dementia, or respite care options in Stockport for someone you love, we warmly invite you to get in touch, ask questions, and arrange a visit. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we would be honoured to speak with you, share more about our home, and help you decide whether Meadway Court is the right place for your loved one.

- Care Home
Rushes House is a residential care home in Stockport, offering a permanent home to older people who need help with the practical side of everyday life. We are not a large institution and we do not want to feel like one. What we aim for is a household where people are recognised the moment they come into a room, where their preferences are known without having to be repeated, and where the day has a comfortable shape to it. Our residents come to us for residential care rather than nursing, which means we support people with washing and dressing, medication, meals, mobility and company, and we bring in community health professionals when something more clinical is needed. A good number of the people living here are living with dementia. We have found that the things that help are rarely dramatic: a familiar face, an unhurried pace, food that is recognisable and reassurance repeated as often as it is needed. We also offer respite stays. These matter enormously to families who are caring at home and who need a planned break before they reach breaking point, and they can also be a gentle way of finding out whether the home suits someone. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We would encourage anyone considering us to visit without much notice and see us as we ordinarily are.

We work closely with families, healthcare professionals, and the wider community to ensure that care plans evolve as needs change, and that residents feel safe, valued, and listened to every single day. Marple Lodge Care Home has been rated Good overall by the Care Quality Commission following its inspection in August 2021. The CQC also rated us Good across the key areas of Safe, Effective, Caring, and Responsive, which reflects the dedication of our team in providing reliable, compassionate, and meaningful care. The Well led domain was rated as Requires Improvement, and we view this honestly as an opportunity to continue strengthening our leadership and governance so that the experience for residents and families is the very best it can be. For families, the Good ratings across the core areas of daily care offer reassurance that the things which matter most, safety, kindness, effectiveness, and responsiveness, are being delivered to a recognised standard. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the worry, love, and hope that sits behind every enquiry. - Care Home
Parklands is a residential care home in Stockport. We are home to older people and to younger adults who need support with daily life, and caring for people living with dementia is a large part of what we do. We provide residential care rather than nursing care. Staff are here through the night as well as the day to help with washing, dressing, medication and meals and to keep the household running, while local doctors and district nurses look after clinical needs. For most people that arrangement works well, and it leaves a great deal more of their independence intact than a clinical setting would. Dementia care comes down to two things: consistency, and knowing the person. A day that runs in a familiar order, the same faces turning up and surroundings that are easy to make sense of will settle somebody more surely than any programme of activities. We take the trouble to learn about a person's working life, their family and their habits, because that is what allows us to understand them when words become difficult. Where younger adults live here, we plan around the fact that they are not looking for the same week as somebody forty years older. Respite and short stays are available. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please ring us if you would like to look round Parklands.

Inglewood Residential Care Home is in Stockport, providing a comfortable and settled place to live for older people who need support close at hand. We run as a household rather than an institution, and the ordinary business of a home carries on much as it would anywhere else. Supporting residents living with dementia is a substantial part of our work. We approach it by learning who each person is, keeping routines familiar and the day unhurried, giving notice before anything changes, and looking for the cause when somebody is unsettled rather than treating it as a problem to be managed. Our team helps with personal care, medication, mobility and meals, and equally with the parts of the day that give it value: conversation, company for those who want it, quiet for those who do not, and time outside when the weather is kind. Relatives are welcome whenever suits them, and we much prefer informal visits to arranged ones. Respite stays are available for people needing care for a short period, which some families use as a break and others as a first step. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. If you are looking at care homes in Stockport, please come and see us on an ordinary day.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Stockport
Why the assessment carries extra weight
Dementia complicates the funding conversation, because the line between a health need and a social care need becomes much harder to draw. A care needs assessment is free and open to anyone who appears to need support whatever their savings, and it looks at washing, dressing, meals, mobility, medication, memory, and the level of supervision required across a full day and night. Where dementia is advanced, that last element often dominates. The assessment is carried out by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council Adult Social Care, which also decides what funded support follows.
Two funding routes worth understanding
A financial assessment looks at capital and income, with assets above the national threshold usually meaning a placement is funded privately, and below it the authority potentially meeting part or all of the weekly fee alongside a contribution from pension and benefit income. Running beside that is NHS continuing healthcare, assessed separately, which can meet the whole cost where the primary need is judged to be a health need. With dementia this is worth raising explicitly rather than waiting to be offered it.
What the weekly figure covers
Fees differ between homes and the advertised rate rarely covers everything. Ask what sits inside the fee and what is billed on top, how often rates are reviewed, what happens if savings fall to the threshold during a stay, and what notice each side must give. Ask specifically whether the fee changes if behaviour becomes harder to support, because that is where unexpected increases tend to appear.
Choosing between dementia care homes in Stockport
What the ratings show across this list
Eighteen of these homes are rated Good and six have been told to improve. Since every home here has been inspected, the reports are available in all twenty four cases, and the dementia specific passages are the ones to read closely. A Requires Improvement judgement deserves reading rather than a reflex rejection, though where the concerns touch on staffing levels or how distress is handled they matter a great deal more than a record keeping criticism would.
What to look for on a visit
Go at a busy hour and watch how staff respond when somebody is confused or distressed, because that single thing tells you more than any tour will. Notice whether people are occupied rather than simply seated, whether the layout helps people find their own way about, and whether staff use names and knowledge rather than instructions. Ask what dementia training staff receive, how the home manages walking with purpose, and what happens when someone becomes distressed at night.
Thinking ahead
Dementia progresses, so ask directly what the home does when needs increase and at what point it would say it could no longer cope. Ask whether it is registered for nursing care as well, since a home that is not may eventually need to move somebody on. Ease of visiting matters too, because familiar faces arriving often are worth a great deal to someone whose memory is failing.
Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Stockport
How many dementia care homes are there in Stockport?
Stockport has 25 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 43 CQC registered care homes in Stockport: 17 Good, 8 Requires improvement. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.
Which dementia care homes in Stockport were inspected most recently?
Chester House Care Home (22 September 2026), Bankfield House Care Home (4 August 2026) and Meadway Court (16 July 2026) have the most recent CQC reports.
Can Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council fund a dementia care home placement?
It can, once a care needs assessment has established that a dementia care home is the right setting and a financial assessment has examined capital and income. Where assets fall below the national threshold, the authority may meet all or part of the weekly fee, with a contribution drawn from pension and benefit income. Where dementia has reached the point that the primary need is a health need, NHS continuing healthcare may meet the whole cost instead, and that is assessed separately. Ask which route is being considered before agreeing terms with any home.
How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Stockport?
Contact Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council and ask for an adult social care assessment. It is free and open to anyone who appears to need support, whatever their savings or income. A hospital discharge team, a general practitioner or a memory clinic can also make the referral where the person is already known to them. Keep a record over a week of where the difficulties genuinely arise, particularly overnight, because a short visit on a good day can badly understate what is happening.
How far in advance should we start looking for a dementia care home?
Earlier than most families feel ready to. Looking while the person can still take part in the decision changes the whole character of it, and gives time to visit properly rather than accepting whatever is free. Assessments and funding decisions carry their own waiting times, and a hospital admission can force the issue within days. Even a shortlist drawn up and set aside makes the eventual move far less abrupt.
Which providers in Stockport offer dementia care?
25 residential care homes supporting people living with dementia match this search, and each holds a profile on Care Assura with registration details and the current CQC rating. Eighteen are rated Good and six Requires Improvement. Every home on the list has been inspected, so a published report exists for all of them. Read the dementia specific sections of those reports rather than relying on the overall rating.
What should I ask when visiting a dementia care home in Stockport?
Ask what dementia training staff receive and how often it is refreshed. Ask how the home supports somebody who walks with purpose, and what it does when a resident becomes distressed, particularly at night. Ask about staffing levels through the evening and overnight, and how long the registered manager has been in post. Ask whether the home is registered for nursing care as well, and at what point it would say it could no longer meet somebody's needs.
What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?
A dementia care home provides accommodation and personal care with staff trained to support people living with dementia, covering help with washing, dressing, meals, medication prompts and the shape of the day. A dementia nursing home offers all of that while being registered to keep a qualified nurse on site at every hour, which allows it to manage clinical needs alongside the dementia support. The difference lies in the registration category held with the regulator rather than in the name or the building. The homes listed on this page are registered as residential care homes. Where nursing needs are already present or clearly approaching, check the registration before choosing.
