    • Care Home

Pendlebury Court Care Home is in Glossop, Derbyshire. We provide residential care for older people and for younger adults who need support with everyday life, and caring for people living with dementia is a large part of what we do. We are not a nursing home, and it is worth being clear about that. What we offer is residential care: help with washing and dressing, medication given on time, meals cooked here, laundry done, and staff on duty through the night as well as the day. Doctors and district nurses come in when clinical care is needed. For most people that turns out to be the right level of support, because it removes the effort and the worry without removing the independence. Dementia care rests on consistency and on knowing the person. A familiar order to the day, the same faces turning up and surroundings that are easy to read will settle somebody more surely than any programme of activities. We take time to learn about a person's working life, family and habits, because that is what explains them to us when words begin to fail. Glossop sits on the edge of the Peak District and we help people get out into it where they want to go. Respite and short stays are available. Please ring us if you would like to look round Pendlebury Court.

    • Care Home

The Risings is a residential care home in Glossop in Derbyshire. We provide a home for older people who need support with daily living, including people living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for those needing care for a short period. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us outstanding overall. We are genuinely pleased with that and careful with it too, because a rating describes one particular week and everything that earned it has to carry on happening afterwards. What sits behind it is fairly ordinary. We spend the first weeks learning about a person rather than fitting them into our routine. What they did for a living, what they will not be persuaded to eat, what time breakfast has always been, whether they would rather have company or the door shut and the radio on. Those details are most of what makes a room feel like home. Dementia care here rests on patience and a recognisable day. We avoid surprising people, we keep routines familiar, and when somebody is distressed we look for the cause rather than simply trying to settle them. Relatives usually know what helps and we want to be told. We also take complaints seriously, which sounds minor and is not. Most of what we have improved here began with somebody saying plainly that something was not good enough. Please come and see us and ask us anything you like.

    • Care Home

Pennine Care Centre is a residential care home in Glossop, Derbyshire. We support older people and younger adults who need help with daily living, including people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions and people whose lives have been affected by alcohol or drug misuse. The mix of people we support is wider than in many homes, and we think that is a strength rather than a complication. It means we plan around the individual. What does someone need, what can they do perfectly well for themselves, and what do they want their day to look like. Some residents stay with us for years, others come for respite while a family carer takes a break or while someone builds strength after illness. We aim for a calm, ordinary household. People keep their own routines, their own belongings and their own visitors, and staff are there to help rather than to take over. For residents in recovery, stability and routine matter a great deal, and we try to provide both without anyone feeling watched. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are not going to pretend otherwise. We have an improvement plan in place, we know which areas need work, and we would far rather talk about it openly with families than skirt around it. If you are considering a placement here, come and look, ask difficult questions and judge us on what you see.

    • Care Home

We are a residential care home in Glossop, providing a home for older people and younger adults who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia and people with physical disabilities. Our aim is a settled house where help is close at hand without taking over somebody's life. Residents keep their own rooms, belongings and routines as far as we can manage, and they decide how much they want to be part of whatever is happening. Where someone needs help with washing, dressing or moving about, we try to give it without hurry and without doing more of the task than is actually needed, because what a person can still manage themselves is worth protecting. Dementia care rests on knowing the person rather than following a procedure, so we ask families to tell us about working life, children, music, faith and old habits. That knowledge is worth more than any written plan when somebody is frightened or cannot place where they are. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was requires improvement. We would rather tell you that ourselves than leave you to find it elsewhere. We are working through the points the inspectors raised, and if you are considering the home for someone close to you we will go through the report with you and answer whatever you want to ask. Please come and see the place as it really is.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Glossop

Where the local choice is narrow, the funding question matters doubly, because it determines whether homes slightly further afield are realistic as well. Start it early. An assessment establishes what level of care is needed and opens the question of who pays, and both answers shape how wide your search ought to be.

Asking for a care needs assessment

A care needs assessment is free and open to any adult who appears to need care and support, and a dementia diagnosis is not a condition of getting one. Derbyshire County Council carries out the assessment and arranges funded support for those found eligible. A relative providing regular unpaid care can request a separate carer's assessment of their own needs. Ask about homes beyond Glossop as well, since the authority can discuss options across a wider area.

What dementia care costs

Where someone is eligible, a financial assessment of income and capital sets the authority's share and the person's own contribution. Many families fund a placement themselves and deal directly with the home. Fees are quoted weekly and vary with the room, the level of support needed, and whether specialist dementia provision is involved, so ask each home for a written breakdown of what the figure covers. Where health needs predominate, NHS continuing healthcare may meet the cost and is assessed separately.

Choosing between dementia care homes in Glossop

Taking the inspection findings seriously

The Risings Residential Home for the Elderly holds an Outstanding rating. Regency Hall, Pendlebury Court Care Home, and Pennine Care Centre have each been asked to improve. That pattern does not mean the three should be dismissed, but it does mean you should read every report before enquiring and establish in each case what the concern was, whether it touched residents directly, how recent the inspection was, and what the home has done since. Ask each manager those questions plainly and judge the candour of the reply. It is also worth asking the authority about homes in neighbouring areas.

Signs of a home that understands dementia

Ask what dementia training the staff have had and how often the same carers work the same shifts, because familiarity does more for someone with dementia than any facility. Ask how a resident's history and routines are recorded and how that reaches the carer on duty at night. Look for calm surroundings, clear landmarks, secure outdoor space, and flexible mealtimes, and ask what happens when a resident becomes anxious.

Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Glossop

How many dementia care homes are there in Glossop?

Glossop has 4 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 5 CQC registered care homes in Glossop: 1 Outstanding, 3 Requires improvement. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.

Which dementia care homes in Glossop were inspected most recently?

Regency Hall (10 June 2026), Pennine Care Centre (30 October 2024) and Pendlebury Court Care Home (13 March 2020) have the most recent CQC reports.

Can Derbyshire County Council fund a dementia care home placement?

It can, where a care needs assessment finds the person eligible for support and a financial assessment shows they qualify for help with the fees. Derbyshire County Council is responsible for both stages, and the contribution depends on the person's income and capital. Some people have the full cost met, others a proportion, and others are assessed as funding the placement themselves. The authority can also discuss homes outside Glossop, which is worth raising given the local picture.

How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Glossop?

Contact Derbyshire County Council adult social care and ask for an assessment of needs, which a relative can request with the person's consent. The assessment is free and carries no obligation. An assessor will consider how the person manages day to day, what family already provides, and where support would make a difference. Ask at the same time about options in neighbouring areas, and note the reference number you are given.

How far in advance should I start looking for dementia care in Glossop?

As early as you possibly can, and earlier here than you might elsewhere, because the inspection records vary and you will want time to read them properly and look further afield if needed. Two or three months lets you visit, compare, and complete an assessment without deciding in haste. Where events have moved quickly, start with the home holding the strongest inspection record and ask the authority about alternatives nearby. An assessment already completed speeds everything up.

Which care homes in Glossop provide dementia care?

Four residential care homes are listed on this page: The Risings Residential Home for the Elderly, Regency Hall, Pendlebury Court Care Home, and Pennine Care Centre. Each is registered with the Care Quality Commission to support people living with dementia, and each profile carries the registration details and the most recent inspection judgement. The ratings differ markedly between them, so read the reports rather than the labels. Availability depends on occupancy when you enquire.

What should I ask when visiting a dementia care home in Glossop?

Ask what dementia training the staff have received, how much the team changes, and how consistently the same carers work with the same residents. Ask what the home does when a resident becomes distressed and how families are kept informed. Where a home has been asked to improve, ask exactly what the inspector found, what has changed since, and what evidence there is for it. Spend time in the communal areas and trust what you observe.

What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?

A dementia care home provides personal care, supervision, and support with daily living from trained care staff. A dementia nursing home provides the same and keeps registered nurses on duty, so it can meet clinical needs such as complex medication or swallowing difficulties. All four providers on this page are registered as residential care homes rather than nursing homes. If nursing care is likely to be needed, raise it at the first enquiry so the home can tell you what it can manage.
