- Care Home
We at Shipley Manor Care Home are proud to offer residential care in the welcoming town of Shipley, nestled within the Bradford district of Yorkshire. Our home has been thoughtfully designed to provide a safe, comfortable and truly homely environment for older people and younger adults who need support with daily living. Set within the BD postcode area, our location offers the best of both worlds for residents and their loved ones. Shipley is a friendly community with excellent transport links, making visits from family and friends straightforward, whilst the surrounding Yorkshire countryside brings a sense of calm and natural beauty to daily life at the home. Our setting has been arranged to feel warm and familiar, with comfortable communal areas where residents can socialise, enjoy activities or simply relax with a cup of tea. The care we provide reflects the varied needs of the people who choose to live with us. Our team supports older people who require residential care, alongside dedicated dementia care for those living with memory loss or cognitive change. We also welcome younger adults and those with physical disabilities, offering personalised support that respects individual routines, preferences and aspirations. For families needing shorter term arrangements, our respite care option provides a trusted place for loved ones to stay, whether following a hospital discharge, during a family holiday or simply to give a regular carer a well earned break. What this means in practice is that every resident is treated as an individual. We take the time to understand each person's life story, hobbies, dietary preferences and daily rhythms, then shape our support around them rather than the other way around. Families are genuinely welcomed as partners in care, kept informed and included in decisions that matter. Our commitment to quality is reflected in our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection, dated October 2025, where Shipley Manor Care Home was awarded an overall rating of Good. We are especially proud that our Caring domain was rated Outstanding, a recognition of the warmth, kindness and genuine compassion our team brings to every interaction. Alongside this, we achieved Good ratings for being Safe, Effective and Responsive, giving families the reassurance that the care provided here meets the high standards expected by the regulator across every important area. Choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that choice. If you are considering residential, dementia or respite care in Shipley or the wider Bradford area, we warmly invite you to get in touch. Come and visit us, meet our team, and see for yourself the caring community we have built. We would be honoured to help you take the next step with confidence and peace of mind.

- Care Home
We are a residential care home in Shipley, providing a home for older people who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with loss of sight or hearing. Our aim is a settled house where help is close at hand without taking over somebody's life. Residents keep their own rooms, belongings and routines as far as we can manage, and they decide how much they want to be part of whatever is happening. Where someone needs help with washing, dressing or moving about, we try to give it without hurry and without doing more of the task than is actually needed. Dementia care rests on knowing the person rather than following a procedure, so we ask families to tell us about working life, children, music, faith and old habits. Where sight or hearing is poor, small habits matter: saying who you are on coming into a room and not moving things about without saying so. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was requires improvement. We would rather tell you that ourselves than leave you to find it elsewhere. We are working through the points the inspectors raised, and if you are considering the home for someone close to you we will go through the report with you and answer whatever you want to ask. Please come and see the place as it really is.

- Care Home
Grange Court is a residential care home in Shipley. We are home to older people, including many living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for families who need a planned break. We try to get the fundamentals right rather than add extras. Warmth, decent meals, quick help, clean laundry, and choice over your own routine. The useful knowledge here is personal rather than clinical. Where somebody grew up. What they were good at. Which subjects light them up and which close them down. For residents living with dementia we protect the routine and keep the surroundings familiar, and we ask families for the history that lets us understand what somebody means rather than only what they said. Relatives hold details we would otherwise never know. Visitors are welcome at any reasonable hour, and grandchildren and dogs are part of that. A home that is awkward about visitors gradually becomes isolating. We review each person's care with them regularly rather than annually out of habit, and we change the plan when it has stopped fitting.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Shipley
Three homes, and one of them currently sitting below the standard inspectors expect. That narrows the field before you have visited anybody.
What residential registration covers
All three providers hold registration as residential care homes. They supply a room, meals and personal care, with staff awake through the night, but they do not keep registered nurses on the premises at all hours. For most people living with dementia that is the appropriate setting for a long period. Where a medical need such as complex wound care or tube feeding develops later, a home holding nursing registration may become necessary, so ask each provider how it handles needs that outgrow its registration.
Reading the inspection record
Shipley Manor Care Home and Grange Court Residential Home currently hold Good. Brookfield Care Home holds Requires Improvement, a grade that is not a finding of unsafe care and need not remove it from consideration, though it does mean opening the report to see which inspection area fell short and whether the concern touched hands on care or record keeping. Ask the manager what has changed since, and check the date of the visit, because a staff team can turn over almost completely between one inspection and the next.
What to look at in person
Visit twice if you can, once in the morning and once in the late afternoon, when tiredness and agitation tend to build. Watch whether staff come down to eye level and use residents by name, whether people are occupied or simply seated in a row, and whether the garden is genuinely reachable. Ask how the night shift is covered, how much of the team is permanent rather than agency, and what the home does when somebody wants to walk about in the small hours.
Choosing between dementia care homes in Shipley
Begin with a care needs assessment
Ask for a care needs assessment before fees take over the conversation. Bradford Metropolitan District Council Adult Social Care is responsible for carrying one out, and anybody who appears to need care may request one whatever their savings. The assessor records the help needed with washing, dressing, eating, medication and supervision at night, and that written summary is what providers will want to read before confirming anything.
Who pays, and what the fee includes
A financial assessment generally follows, weighing income against capital, and its outcome decides whether the council contributes towards the weekly fee, whether the cost is shared, or whether the person pays in full. Where the council does contribute it agrees a rate it is prepared to meet, and a relative can be asked to cover the difference if the preferred home charges above that figure. Residential dementia care usually costs less than nursing care, and past that fees in Shipley differ by home and by room, so ask for the schedule in writing with a plain list of what sits outside it.
Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Shipley
How many dementia care homes are there in Shipley?
Shipley has 3 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 6 CQC registered care homes in Shipley: 1 Outstanding, 1 Good, 1 Requires improvement. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.
Which dementia care homes in Shipley were inspected most recently?
Grange Court Residential Home (4 June 2026), Brookfield Care Home (10 October 2025) and Shipley Manor Care Home (2 October 2025) have the most recent CQC reports.
Which providers in Shipley offer dementia care?
Three registered providers appear on this page: Shipley Manor Care Home, Brookfield Care Home and Grange Court Residential Home. All three are registered as residential care homes. Two currently hold a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission and one holds Requires Improvement. Each profile sets out the registration details and the most recently published inspection outcome.
What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?
A dementia care home provides accommodation, meals and personal care from trained care staff, including washing, dressing, medication and supervision overnight. A dementia nursing home holds a further registration requiring registered nurses on site at all hours, which suits people whose needs are medical, such as complex wound care or tube feeding. All three Shipley homes listed here carry residential registration rather than nursing registration. Ask each one what it would do if a nursing need arose after a move.
What should I ask when visiting a dementia care home in Shipley?
Ask what dementia training the staff have completed and how the team responds when a resident becomes distressed or asks to go home. Where a home holds Requires Improvement, ask the manager directly what inspectors raised and what has been done since. Ask to see the activities that genuinely ran over the past fortnight rather than a printed timetable. Then ask what would happen if your relative's needs grew beyond the home's registration.
How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Shipley?
Contact Bradford Metropolitan District Council and ask the adult social care team for a care needs assessment. The right to one does not depend on income or savings, and a relative, a GP or a hospital discharge team can make the request on somebody's behalf. An assessor will discuss the daily help needed and produce a written record of those needs. That record then guides the funding decision and gives each home the same information to work from.
Can Bradford Metropolitan District Council fund a dementia care home placement?
Bradford Metropolitan District Council can contribute towards fees, but only once a care needs assessment has established that residential care is appropriate and a financial assessment has looked at income and capital. The outcome may be council funding, a shared cost, or a decision that the person pays privately. Where the council contributes it sets a weekly rate it will meet, and a family member may be asked to pay the difference if the chosen home charges above that. Ask for any agreed contribution to be confirmed in writing before a place is accepted.
How far ahead should we start looking at dementia care homes?
Start before the move feels urgent, because with only three homes here a room at the one you prefer may not be free when you need it. Two or three months allows repeat visits, a careful read of the inspection reports and unhurried assessments. If a hospital discharge or an unwell carer speeds things up, ask about short stays that can bridge the gap while you keep looking. A few calm weeks almost always produces a better decision than one pressured afternoon.
