    • Care Home

Compass Care South Park is a residential care home in Huddersfield, Kirklees. We support older people and younger adults, people living with dementia, autistic adults and people with a learning disability, those managing mental ill health, adults with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. We also offer respite stays. Supporting that spread of needs under one roof is only possible if care is planned for the individual rather than the group. We spend real time getting to know somebody, write plans that describe the person rather than the category, and review them properly as things change. What steadies one person here would unsettle another. People keep their own belongings around them, choose how they spend their days and take part in the ordinary business of the house as much as they want to. There is company and activity for anybody who wants it and quiet for anybody who does not. For those living with dementia we hold routines and faces steady and give time rather than rushing. Where somebody's mental health is fragile we watch for early signs and involve their GP and the community team promptly rather than waiting for a crisis. We work closely with families, social workers and health colleagues in Kirklees. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Visitors and referrers are welcome.

    • Care Home

Here at Aden View Care Home in Huddersfield, we provide a warm and supportive environment where the people in our care feel genuinely at home. We are proud to have received a "Good" rating from the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the commitment and consistency of our whole team. We support a range of individuals across our residential and dementia care provision, including older adults, younger adults, and those coming to us for respite care. Whether someone moves in with us permanently or joins us for a shorter stay, we take time to understand who they are, what matters to them, and how they like their days to look. No two people are the same, and we do not treat them as though they are. For those living with dementia, we know how important it is to create a calm, familiar and reassuring atmosphere. Our team works thoughtfully to maintain routines, encourage meaningful activity and support both residents and their families through what can be a challenging time. Respite care is something we take just as seriously as long term support. Carers and families sometimes need a break, and we want people to feel confident that their loved one is in good hands while they rest. We aim to make every respite stay feel settled and comfortable from the very first day. We are part of the Huddersfield community and we value the relationships we build, not just with residents but with families, friends and local people too. Visiting is encouraged and families are always welcome to be involved in the life of the home. If you are considering Aden View for yourself or someone close to you, we would love to hear from you and answer any questions you might have.

    • Care Home

Castle Grange is a residential care home in Huddersfield, providing a permanent home for older people who need help with the practical side of everyday life. We try to keep the place domestic, with the ordinary rhythms of meals, company, fresh air and rest. Our support covers personal care, medication, eating well, moving about safely and having somebody about who notices when a resident is not quite themselves. We support people living with dementia, and we rely on continuity: staff who know a person's history and habits, a routine that does not keep changing and reassurance given as often as it is needed. We also care for residents with physical disabilities, adjusting how we help with mobility so that independence is kept wherever it can be, and we bring in community health professionals whenever something more clinical is required. Respite stays are available too, giving family carers a proper rest and letting a prospective resident get the feel of the home before any permanent decision. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and we treat that as a standard to hold rather than a badge. Please visit during an ordinary day and make up your own mind.

    • Care Home

Paddock Lodge Care Home is a residential home in Huddersfield. We support older people and some younger adults, and we offer both permanent places and respite stays for those needing care for a short period or whose family carer needs a break. Most of our residents need help with washing and dressing, moving about safely, medication given properly and on time, and meals worth looking forward to, with somebody nearby through the night. A good number are living with dementia, and we let that shape the whole house rather than treating it as a separate wing. The day follows a recognisable pattern, familiar staff are around, people keep their own belongings and habits, and somebody who is anxious gets company and time rather than correction. We also support people with physical disabilities, where equipment, seating and access decide how much independence somebody actually has. Food is cooked on the premises and people are asked what they would like. There is somewhere sociable to sit and somewhere quiet, the garden gets used when the weather allows, and visitors do not need an appointment. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please arrange to come and see us and talk to whoever is on duty.

    • Care Home

Sun Woodhouse Care Home is a residential care home in Huddersfield caring for older people, including those living with dementia or mental health conditions and those with physical disabilities. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. We aim to run a household rather than an institution. Residents get up when they are ready, eat what they like, keep their own habits and have a genuine say in the way their support is provided. Rooms belong to the people living in them and we encourage families to bring furniture and pictures that make a space feel familiar. Supporting someone with dementia is largely about consistency, patience and knowing the person's history well enough to make sense of what they are telling us. We keep routines steady and faces familiar, and we respond to the feeling behind a question rather than correcting the facts. Mental health support here is practical rather than clinical. A predictable routine for those who find one helpful, somewhere quiet to go when things feel too much, help with appointments and medication, and staff who notice when someone is not themselves. We work closely with community mental health colleagues and GPs, and we act early. Families are welcome and we would much rather hear a concern early than have you worry quietly. Please get in touch if you would like to visit.

We at Tolson Grange are proud to offer a warm and welcoming residential care home in Huddersfield, providing thoughtful older person care, dedicated dementia support, and tailored care for younger adults across the Kirklees community. Our home is nestled within the HD postcode area of Huddersfield, placing us in a comfortable corner of Yorkshire & Humberside where residents can enjoy the familiar rhythms of local life. The setting has been carefully arranged to feel like a true home rather than an institution, with communal spaces that encourage gentle companionship and quieter areas for those who prefer calm reflection. Families visiting us will find an environment shaped around dignity, comfort, and the small everyday moments that make a house feel like home. Our specialisms reflect the diverse needs of the people we welcome through our doors. For older residents, we focus on preserving independence whilst offering the reassurance of compassionate support whenever it is needed. Our dementia care is delivered with patience, consistency, and a deep understanding of how memory and routine intertwine, helping residents feel safe and understood even on more challenging days. We also support younger adults whose care needs benefit from a residential setting, recognising that every individual brings their own story, preferences, and aspirations. In practice, this means person centred planning, familiar daily rhythms, and a team committed to truly knowing each resident as an individual rather than simply meeting a list of needs. For families, our blended approach offers genuine peace of mind. We understand that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we work closely with loved ones to ensure communication remains open, honest, and ongoing. Whether you are exploring long term residential care, seeking specialist dementia support, or arranging care for a younger family member, we aim to be a steady and trustworthy presence throughout the journey. If you are considering care for someone you love, we warmly invite you to get in touch with Tolson Grange. We would be delighted to answer your questions, share more about daily life here, and help you take the next step with confidence and reassurance.

    • Care Home

The Oakes Care Centre is a residential care home in Huddersfield, supporting older people and younger adults across Kirklees, including many people living with dementia. Our ambition here is plain: we want the ordinary days to be good ones. Food cooked in our own kitchen that people look forward to. Personal care given calmly and in private. Medication managed properly. Warm rooms that look like they belong to the person in them. Somebody awake at night. Enough going on in the house that there is a reason to come downstairs, and no pressure on anybody who would rather not. People keep their own habits wherever we can arrange it. A home that insists everybody rises at the same hour and bathes to a schedule has stopped being a home and become a timetable with beds in it. Dementia care is most of what we do and we have clear views about it. Correcting somebody about the year, or about where a long dead spouse has got to, helps nobody. Familiar staff, a calm and unhurried house, and knowing enough of a person's life to find the thread of a conversation help enormously. Relatives are our best source of that history and we ask for it early rather than as a form filling exercise. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take it as a starting point. Come and see us at a busy time and ask the residents what they think.

The Oakes Care Centre is a residential care home in Huddersfield providing a home for older people and for younger adults who need support with daily living, including people living with dementia. We offer permanent places and shorter respite stays. We run the home at the pace of the people in it. Breakfast happens when somebody wakes rather than when a trolley comes round, and the day takes the shape a person wants. The care covers help with washing and dressing, medication, meals cooked here, support with mobility, and somebody always around when a person needs them. For those living with dementia we keep the routine steady and the faces familiar, and we arrange the house so that it is easy to understand and to move about in. Our staff tend to stay with us, and that continuity does more to settle somebody than any particular method could. Families are welcome whenever they wish to come, and we would much rather hear a concern early than have it sit unspoken. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Lindley Park Care Home is a residential care home in Huddersfield, Kirklees. We support older people who need help with daily living, along with younger adults, residents living with dementia, people with a physical disability and those living with a visual or hearing impairment. We also offer respite stays for shorter periods. We support a mix of people here, so we plan around individuals rather than categories. Residents decide when they get up, how they spend their time and what they eat. Meals are cooked on the premises and preferences are remembered. There is company and activity for those who want it and no pressure on anyone who does not. Our dementia care rests on knowing people properly. We are Longwood Grange, a residential care home in Huddersfield, in the borough of Kirklees. We provide a home for older people, including those living with dementia, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment, and we also offer respite stays. Residential care means supporting people with what has become hard work and leaving everything else where it belongs, which is with them. Washing and dressing, meals, medication, moving about safely, and the ordinary company that makes a day worth having. For health needs beyond our registration we work with district nurses and GPs rather than stretching to cover them. Where dementia and a sensory impairment sit together, which happens often, we look at the simple explanation first. A hearing aid that has stopped working accounts for a great deal that would otherwise be recorded as confusion, and a room somebody cannot make sense of will unsettle anyone. Respite guests are assessed and welcomed exactly as permanent residents are, whether they are recovering from illness or giving a family carer a break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

    • Care Home

We are a residential care home in Huddersfield, providing a home for older people and younger adults who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia. Our aim is an unhurried house. A good deal of care is spoiled simply by being rushed, so we try to give people the time to wash, dress and eat at their own pace, and to sit with somebody who wants to talk rather than moving straight on to the next task. Residents keep their own rooms, belongings and routines as far as we can manage, and they decide how much they want to be part of whatever is happening. Meals are cooked here and we pay attention when somebody would rather have something different. Dementia care comes down to knowing the person. We ask families to tell us about working life, children, music, faith and old habits, because that knowledge is what allows a member of staff to reassure somebody who is anxious or cannot place where they are. It is worth a great deal more than any written procedure. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. A planned break can be what allows a relative to keep providing care at home for longer. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Families are welcome whenever they wish to come. Please come and see the home for yourself.

Crimson Manor is a residential care home in Huddersfield. We provide a home for older people, including many living with dementia, and we also offer respite stays, whether that is to give a family carer a break or to help somebody find their feet again after a spell in hospital. We would rather be judged on ordinary things than on anything grand. Knowing how everybody likes their tea. Remembering which chair belongs to whom. Understanding who wants company from breakfast onwards and who would much rather be left with a newspaper. Helping somebody up when they wake rather than when it suits a rota. We ask about these preferences, write them down and expect them to be followed, because that is most of what makes a place feel like home instead of an institution. Dementia support is a large part of our work. Steady routines, familiar faces and patience do more good than anything else, along with a genuine effort to understand what somebody is telling us when words have become difficult. We treat distress as communication rather than as behaviour to be managed, and we ask families in detail about history, habits and preferences, because that information is often what makes the present make sense. Families are welcome here whenever it suits them and we would rather raise something early than wait to be asked. If you are considering a care home in Huddersfield for someone close to you, please come and look round, meet our residents and staff and ask us anything you like.

    • Care Home

We at Knowle Court are proud to offer a welcoming residential care home in the heart of Huddersfield, providing compassionate older person care, dementia care, and support for younger adults across our friendly Kirklees community. Set within the HD postcode area of Huddersfield, our home offers a comfortable and homely setting where residents can feel safe, settled, and truly at ease. The surrounding area of Kirklees provides a familiar Yorkshire backdrop, and our environment has been thoughtfully arranged to support both independence and gentle assistance, whichever each resident needs on any given day. We believe that a calm, well kept space is the foundation of good care, and we work hard to ensure our home feels warm and personal rather than clinical. Our team specialises in residential care for older people, dedicated dementia care, and tailored support for younger adults whose needs are best met in a residential setting. For families, this breadth of specialism means peace of mind. Whether a loved one requires day to day help with personal care, gentle reassurance through the challenges of living with dementia, or a longer term home that adapts as needs change, we approach every individual with patience, dignity, and genuine kindness. We take time to understand each resident as a person, learning about their history, preferences, routines, and the small details that make daily life feel familiar and meaningful. Family involvement is warmly encouraged, because we know that strong relationships with loved ones are central to wellbeing. Knowle Court was rated Good overall by the Care Quality Commission at its most recent inspection in January 2024, with Good ratings across all five key areas: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. For families, this consistent rating offers reassurance that our care meets the standards expected by the national regulator and that our team continues to deliver thoughtful, person centred support across every aspect of life within the home. If you are exploring care options for a loved one in Huddersfield or the wider Kirklees area, we would be delighted to hear from you. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we are here to listen, to answer your questions, and to help you feel confident in the next steps. Please do get in touch to arrange a visit and see for yourself the warm, supportive home we have created at Knowle Court.

    • Care Home

Bishops Way is a residential care home in Huddersfield supporting a broad range of adults. Many of our residents are older people, including those living with dementia, and we also support adults with mental health needs, people with a physical disability, residents living with sight or hearing loss and some younger adults. That range means assessment matters. Before anybody moves in we want to be sure we can meet their needs properly and that the placement will work for them and for the people already living here, and we say so honestly when we think we are not the right place. Support is planned one person at a time. For one resident that may mean help with most of the day, including personal care and help to move safely. For another it may mean very little practical help but a good deal of structure and staff who understand how they communicate. For residents living with dementia we keep the house familiar and the staff consistent. For residents with mental health needs a calm household and staff who notice when something has shifted do most of the good. Where there is sight or hearing loss we adapt how we communicate and do not move things without saying so. Respite stays are available and give family carers a proper break. Please contact us if you would like to visit and see how the home runs.

    • Care Home

Longroyds and Pilling House is a residential care home in Huddersfield supporting older people, including many living with dementia. We support some younger residents and we welcome respite guests. We run the home as a household rather than a facility. Mornings are flexible, meals are proper meals, and residents choose how they spend their days, with company when they want it and quiet when they do not. Staff learn residents' histories rather than just their needs, because knowing a person's life is what makes it possible to care for them well rather than merely competently. Dementia care is a large part of what we do. We keep routines familiar, the building calm and the staffing as consistent as we can manage, and we follow the person rather than correcting them. When a resident is unsettled we look for the cause behind it, whether that is pain, noise, tiredness, hunger or a need that has not been understood. Relatives usually know what has always helped, and we would far rather ask them than guess. For younger residents we make sure the day contains something that belongs to them rather than expecting everybody to live the same afternoon. Respite guests receive exactly what permanent residents receive. If you are looking at homes in this area, please arrange a visit. An ordinary weekday will tell you far more than anything we could write.

    • Care Home

The Denby at Denby Dale is a residential care home near Huddersfield, supporting older people and younger adults from across Kirklees, including many people living with dementia. We think of ourselves as part of the village rather than a building set apart from it. People who move in have usually lived locally for years, and keeping those threads intact matters more than most brochures admit: the same newspaper, the same chapel, visitors who can walk round rather than make an expedition of it. Day to day the work is practical. Personal care given calmly and in private. Medication managed properly. Meals cooked here and served at a table. Warm rooms that look like they belong to the person in them. Staff awake at night. Beyond that we try to leave as much as possible in people's own hands, because choosing when to get up, what to wear and how to spend an afternoon is not a small matter when a great deal else has been taken away. Dementia runs through much of what we do. Familiarity and calm work; correction does not. Arguing with somebody about the year, or about where a long dead spouse has got to, helps nobody at all. Relatives usually hold the detail that unlocks a difficult hour, and we ask for it at the start. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. The most useful thing you can do is turn up, have a cup of tea and talk to the people who live here.

    • Care Home

The Denby at Denby Dale is a residential care home near Huddersfield, caring for people from across Kirklees and the surrounding villages. We support older people and younger adults, including residents living with dementia, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. We try to run a household rather than a facility, and mostly that is a question of pace. There is time here to help someone get ready without hurrying them, time for a proper conversation and time to sit with a resident who is having a difficult afternoon. Meals are a real part of the day, with an alternative always available, and residents keep their own routines as far as they can. Dementia care starts with knowing the person. Their working life, their family, their habits and what has always comforted them guide how we support them far better than any general approach could. When a resident becomes distressed we look for the reason behind it rather than reaching for a standard response. Our village setting is part of daily life here. Fresh air, familiar surroundings and the rhythm of a small community give people something to look forward to, and we get residents out whenever the weather allows. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. You are very welcome to visit on an ordinary day and see how the place really runs.

Nestled within the Kirklees area, our home is a familiar and comforting presence for families across the HD postcode area and the wider Yorkshire and Humberside region. Residents can enjoy communal spaces designed for companionship and quieter areas for reflection, all within easy reach of the amenities and green spaces that make Huddersfield such a valued place to live. Being close to the town means loved ones can visit with ease, and residents remain connected to the community they know. The specialisms we provide are shaped around the varied needs of older adults. Our residential care offers day to day support with the routines of living, delivered with dignity and warmth. Our respite care option gives families a trusted place to turn when a loved one needs short term support, whether following a hospital stay or to allow a regular carer time to rest. In practice, this means our team focuses on the small daily kindnesses that add up to a good quality of life: a warm meal shared with company, help with personal care given with patience, and a friendly conversation at the right moment. Families are welcomed as partners in care, and we understand how important open communication is when entrusting the wellbeing of a loved one to others. If you are exploring care options in Huddersfield for a parent, partner or relative, we warmly invite you to get in touch to learn more about the changes underway at Clayton House and to see whether we may be the right fit for your family. • Care Home

Clayton Lodge is a residential care home in Huddersfield. We are home to older people, including many living with dementia and people with physical disabilities, and we offer respite stays for families who need a planned break. We would rather residents set the pace. Being rushed is one of the commonest complaints about care homes and one of the easiest to design out. Dementia care is mostly consistency plus knowledge. We keep things where they were, keep the order of the day the same, and learn what a person's references mean. For residents with physical disabilities we plan the practical side around what somebody can still manage themselves rather than what is quickest for us. Declining to join in is always allowed. We ask, we ask again another day, and we do not treat a preference for solitude as a problem to be solved. Food preferences are taken seriously, including the ones that seem fussy. Somebody who dislikes what is on offer should be able to have something else without making a fuss about it. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. What we care about is whether somebody's day had anything good in it.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Huddersfield

The practical steps are more straightforward than families fear, provided they are taken in order. What a person needs is established first and written down. Only afterwards does anyone look at savings, income and what public funding may cover.

The assessment of needs

Any adult who appears to need care and support can ask for a free assessment, whatever their capital. For someone living with dementia it should record what they can still manage, where support is required and how memory and understanding shape daily life, and it should involve them as fully as possible. Where capacity to decide is in doubt, the decision must be made in their best interests with family consulted. Arrange it through Kirklees Metropolitan Council adult social care, and ask for a carer's assessment of your own if you have been providing the support so far.

Who pays for a placement

A financial assessment follows, comparing capital and income with national thresholds. Above the upper threshold the placement is self funded. Below it the council contributes on a sliding calculation and the resident pays a share from income, keeping a protected personal allowance. Where health needs are substantial, continuing healthcare funding from the National Health Service may apply instead, and it is entirely reasonable to ask for that to be considered. Request each calculation in writing.

Fees and what they include

Weekly fees differ between homes and between rooms, and homes staffed more heavily for dementia support often sit at the upper end of the local range. Ask for a written breakdown of what the fee covers and what is charged separately, such as hairdressing, chiropody or escorted appointments. Ask what happens to the fee if needs increase markedly, and how much notice precedes a rise.

Choosing between dementia care homes in Huddersfield

Reading a mixed set of grades

Fourteen of these homes hold Good, which means inspectors judged them safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led at the last visit. Three hold Requires Improvement and one has no rating yet. Two carry Inadequate, the regulator's most serious judgement, and those reports should be read closely before any visit is arranged, since they set out exactly what was found and what the provider was required to put right. Check inspection dates throughout, because a home can change substantially in either direction between visits.

The building and the daily rhythm

Ask how a resident finds their way about: contrasting doors and handrails, natural light, and somewhere safe to walk when restlessness takes hold. Ask what the home does in the late afternoon when agitation is common, and what is tried before medication is discussed. Ask whether a bedroom can be furnished from home and whether waking, bathing and mealtimes follow lifelong habits rather than the rota.

Staff, training and continuity

Ask what dementia training carers receive, who provides it and how often it is repeated. Ask how many staff cover the night and what they do when someone is frightened in the early hours. Ask how long the current team has been in post, because familiarity does more for a person living with dementia than almost anything else on offer.

Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Huddersfield

How many dementia care homes are there in Huddersfield?

Huddersfield has 22 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 57 CQC registered care homes in Huddersfield: 17 Good, 3 Requires improvement, 2 not yet rated. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.

Which dementia care homes in Huddersfield were inspected most recently?

Clayton House (28 September 2026), Crimson Manor (10 September 2026) and Tolson Grange (23 June 2026) have the most recent CQC reports.

How do we arrange a care needs assessment in Huddersfield?

Contact Kirklees Metropolitan Council and ask for an adult social care needs assessment. The request can come from the person themselves, from a relative or friend, or from a GP, memory service or hospital team. It is free and savings make no difference to the right to be assessed. The written outcome records what support is required and becomes the basis for choosing a home and for any funding decision.

Can Kirklees Metropolitan Council fund a dementia care home placement?

It can, where the needs assessment shows residential dementia care is required and the financial assessment shows capital below the national upper threshold. Support is calculated on a sliding scale and the resident normally contributes from income as well. Where health needs are substantial, National Health Service continuing healthcare funding may apply instead and should be considered. Ask for the calculations in writing so they can be checked and questioned.

Which homes in Huddersfield provide dementia care?

22 residential care homes in Huddersfield registered to support people living with dementia appear in this collection. Each has a profile on Care Assura showing its published rating and linking to the inspection report behind it. All are registered with the Care Quality Commission, the regulator for adult social care in England. Given the spread of grades on this list, reading the reports rather than the ratings alone is the sensible way to narrow it.

What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?

A dementia care home provides accommodation and personal care with staff trained to support memory loss and changes in behaviour. A dementia nursing home offers the same and also employs registered nurses at all hours, so clinical needs are met on site rather than by moving elsewhere. The difference is set by each provider's registration and decides who a home may admit. Where swallowing difficulties, advanced frailty or complex medication are present, a nursing registered home is usually the safer option.

How far ahead should we start looking?

As early as a diagnosis allows, because dementia homes with good reputations fill quickly and a crisis leaves almost no choice. Looking early also lets the person visit and give a view while they are still able to weigh one home against another. A calm sequence is to request the assessment, shortlist a few homes and visit each more than once. If a hospital stay forces the timing, a short term placement can hold the position while the family looks properly.

What should we ask when visiting a dementia care home in Huddersfield?

Ask what dementia training the staff receive, how often it is refreshed and how many carers work overnight. Ask what happens when a resident becomes distressed or determined to leave, and what is tried before medication is considered. Ask whether familiar belongings can come along and whether personal routines are respected. Ask too how families are kept informed and what came of the last concern anyone raised.
