About Longwood Grange
We are Longwood Grange, a residential care home in Huddersfield, in the borough of Kirklees. We provide a home for older people, including those living with dementia, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment, and we also offer respite stays. Residential care means supporting people with what has become hard work and leaving everything else where it belongs, which is with them. Washing and dressing, meals, medication, moving about safely, and the ordinary company that makes a day worth having. For health needs beyond our registration we work with district nurses and GPs rather than stretching to cover them. Where dementia and a sensory impairment sit together, which happens often, we look at the simple explanation first. A hearing aid that has stopped working accounts for a great deal that would otherwise be recorded as confusion, and a room somebody cannot make sense of will unsettle anyone. Respite guests are assessed and welcomed exactly as permanent residents are, whether they are recovering from illness or giving a family carer a break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
