About Bridgewood House
Bridgewood House is a residential care home in Huddersfield supporting adults with a learning disability, autistic adults and people living with a physical disability. We are a house rather than a unit, and the people who live here have a real say in how their own home is run. Support is planned individually. Some of our residents need help with most parts of the day, including personal care and help to move about safely. Others need very little of that but rely on us for routine, encouragement and staff who understand how they communicate and what they find overwhelming. We take our time working that out and we ask the people who know somebody well. Everyday life covers the ordinary business of a household: cooking, shopping, laundry, keeping your own room how you like it, deciding what to do at the weekend and getting out locally. We support people to do what they can for themselves, even when that takes longer, and we help properly where help is needed. The right equipment and training are in place for residents with physical support needs, and our staff are trained in communication and in supporting somebody who is distressed. Respite stays are available and can give a family carer a genuine break while the person has a proper stay with us. Please contact us if you would like to come and see the house.
