Stone House is a residential care home in Chester. We support older people who need help with daily living, including people living with dementia, and we take respite bookings for families needing a short break or a period of extra support after illness. We try to run the place the way a household runs rather than the way an institution does. People get up when they wake, eat what they actually like, keep their own furniture and photographs about them, and carry on with the habits that make them feel themselves. Relatives are welcome without appointment, and we would far rather people dropped in than waited for a visiting slot. Supporting somebody living with dementia asks for patience and a good memory for detail. Our staff learn the small things: the favoured chair, the songs that settle somebody, the hours of the day that are harder, the stories worth hearing again. None of it appears in a care plan, but it is what separates a home that works from one that merely functions. When a person's needs are changing we raise it early with the family rather than arriving with a decision already taken. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. If you are looking at residential or respite care in Chester, please arrange to visit. We will show you round properly and answer whatever you want to ask.

Wealstone Residential Home is in Chester. We offer older people a settled, permanent home, and we also provide respite stays for those who need care for a short period or whose family carer needs a break. We support some younger adults too. Most of our residents need help with washing and dressing, moving about safely, medication given properly and on time, and meals worth looking forward to, with somebody nearby through the night. A good number are living with dementia, and we let that shape the whole house rather than treating it as a separate wing. The day follows a recognisable pattern, familiar staff are around, people keep their own belongings and habits, and somebody who is anxious gets company and time rather than correction. Days here run at a gentle pace. There is breakfast when people are ready for it, food cooked on the premises, newspapers, cards, music, visits from the hairdresser and time in the garden when the weather allows. Nobody is obliged to join in with anything, and families visit as often as they like. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Choosing a home is not a decision to make from a brochure, so please come and visit and talk to whoever is on duty.

We are Urmston Manor, a residential care home in Trafford. We look after older people, including those living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment, and we also support younger adults. Respite stays are available. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are proud of that and also clear about what it means. It is not a promise that nothing will ever go wrong here. It reflects the fact that we know the people who live here well, that our staff are properly supported, and that when something needs putting right we deal with it rather than explaining it away. In daily life that shows in small things. People get up and go to bed when they choose. Meals are what somebody actually wants to eat. Their own furniture and pictures come with them and their habits come first. For people living with dementia, we work with the person as they are now, knowing their history, spotting early what unsettles them and going at their pace. Relatives are welcome at any reasonable hour, we tell them when something has changed, and we say plainly when we have made a mistake. Please ring us and come and see the home.

We are Haylands Residential Home for Gentlemen in Trafford. We look after older men, including those living with dementia, and we take respite bookings for shorter stays. Being a home for men gives the place its own character, and a good deal of what people tell us they like about it is simply that it feels familiar and unfussy. People arrive with their own furniture, pictures and habits, and those come first. What time you wake, where you take your breakfast, whether you feel sociable today or would rather sit quietly with the paper: those remain your decisions. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement, and we are not going to write around it. We have looked closely at what the inspection found, changed how care is planned, recorded and reviewed, and strengthened the training and supervision of our staff. Our progress is being monitored, and we tell relatives the same things we tell the regulator. For people living with dementia, the useful work is in the detail: knowing a person's history and the job they did, recognising early what unsettles them, and going at their pace rather than the rota's. If you are considering us, please visit and ask about the rating directly.

Ann Challis is a residential care home in Trafford, Manchester, supporting older adults and some younger adults. We offer permanent places and respite stays, and many of our residents live with dementia. A care home ought to feel like somewhere people live rather than somewhere they have been placed, and the difference shows up in ordinary things. Getting up at an hour that suits you. Your own furniture and pictures around you. Being asked what you would like rather than told what is happening. Carrying on with familiar habits for as long as health allows. Our dementia care rests on familiarity and patience above all. The same staff, a routine that holds its shape, surroundings that make sense, and time given rather than grudged when somebody needs longer to find their words. Where a resident is distressed we look for the cause, because there almost always is one, whether pain, confusion, boredom or fear. Respite guests become part of the household from the day they arrive. For many people a short stay is their first experience of a care home, and it should leave them reassured rather than relieved it is over. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. Families are welcome to visit without arranging it beforehand, and anyone considering a place should come and see the home for themselves.

Harmony House is a residential care home in Salford, Manchester, supporting older people who need help with daily living, along with younger adults, residents living with dementia or a mental health condition, and people with a physical disability. We also offer respite stays for those who need care for a shorter period. We aim to give people an ordinary life with the support they need behind it. Residents decide when to get up, how to spend their time, what they eat and how much company they want. Our staff take time to learn what settles a particular person and what unsettles them, which matters a great deal for anyone living with dementia or managing a mental health condition. We should be open with you about our last inspection. The Care Quality Commission rated us requires improvement overall. We have not tried to explain that away. We accepted the findings, we have a clear improvement plan and we are working through it, with closer oversight of the areas the inspectors raised. We would rather tell you this directly and show you the work than have you learn it from somewhere else. We stay in close contact with GPs, community mental health teams and district nurses, and we keep families properly informed about how their relative is getting on. Visitors are welcome at any reasonable time. If you are considering the home, please come, look around and ask us the difficult questions.

Wentworth House is a residential care home in Salford, Greater Manchester. We provide a home for older people who need support with daily living, including people living with dementia, people living with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment. We are not a nursing home. What we offer is residential care: help with washing and dressing, medication given on time, meals cooked here, laundry done, and staff on duty through the night as well as the day. Doctors and district nurses come in when clinical care is needed. For a great many older people that turns out to be exactly the right amount of support, because it takes away the effort and the worry without taking away the independence. Dementia care rests on consistency and on knowing the person. A familiar order to the day, the same faces and surroundings that are easy to read will settle somebody more surely than anything else. We take time to learn about a person's working life, family and habits, because that is what explains them to us when words begin to fail. Sight and hearing loss are taken seriously rather than worked around. Respite and short stays are available. Please ring us if you would like to look round Wentworth House.

Lighthouse is a residential care home in Manchester. We support older people and younger adults with a range of needs, including people living with dementia or a mental health condition, people with a physical disability, and people dealing with alcohol or drug misuse. We also take respite bookings. Because people arrive here by very different routes, we do not run the house to one pattern. Some need a good deal of practical support through the day. Others mainly want a settled base, a routine that holds and somebody reliable to check in with. We work out which by asking, and we go on asking, because what somebody needs when they arrive is rarely what they need a year later. People keep their own belongings around them, decide how the day goes and are not hurried. Families and friends are welcome through the day rather than by appointment. We are used to supporting people whose needs do not fit neatly into one category, and we try to take each person as they come rather than as a label. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. If you are looking for a place or a respite stay in Manchester, please get in touch and arrange to come and look round.

Mary & Joseph House is a residential care home in Manchester, and we support a wider range of adults than most homes of our size. That is deliberate. People do not arrive with a single label, and we would rather build support around an individual than turn somebody away because their needs sit across two categories. We provide residential care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we support people living with mental ill health, people with physical disabilities and younger adults. We also support people whose lives have been affected by alcohol or drug use, working without judgement and without pretending the risks are not there. Respite stays are available as well. Supporting that mix well means being clear about what each person needs from us, so every plan is written with the individual, reviewed regularly, and shared with the professionals involved in their care. Where risk is part of the picture we talk about it openly and look for ways to support somebody safely rather than simply saying no. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are pleased with that and clear it has to be earned again every week. Anyone thinking about a placement is welcome to visit, meet the staff on duty and ask us difficult questions.

Hamilton Rest Home is a residential care home in Manchester, in the borough of Bury. We look after older people who can no longer manage safely at home, and we want them to feel that they live here rather than that they have been put here. We provide residential care, which covers help with washing and dressing, medication, meals, mobility and company, with community health professionals brought in when something clinical is needed. We support residents living with dementia, where continuity and a calm pace do far more good than anything else. We care for residents living with mental health conditions, where a settled environment and staff who notice early changes matter enormously, and residents with physical disabilities or a visual or hearing impairment, adapting how we communicate and how we help with moving about so that dignity and independence are protected. Respite stays are available too. They give family carers a genuine rest, and they let somebody spend time here before any permanent decision is taken. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. That is a standard we mean to keep rather than something to point at. Please come and see the home on an ordinary day, meet the people who live here and make up your own mind about whether it suits.

Woodbury Short Stay in Bury provides short term residential care for older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people with a physical disability and people with sight or hearing loss. Short stays serve different purposes for different people. Some come to us to give a family carer a proper break. Others need a period of care and recovery after illness or a stay in hospital before going home. Some need a safe and settled place while arrangements at home are being sorted out. Whatever the reason, the aim is the same, which is that somebody leaves in a better position than when they arrived. Because our stays are short, we work quickly to understand what each person needs, and we listen closely to the people who know them best, since a family carer can tell us in ten minutes what would otherwise take us a fortnight to learn. Staff help with personal care, moving about safely, medication and meals, and are trained for the range of needs we support. Rooms are comfortable, meals are cooked here and visitors are welcome. If you are looking at a short stay for yourself or a relative, please contact us and we will talk through what we can offer.

Here at Lightbowne Hall, we provide residential care for older people, younger adults and those living with dementia, right in the heart of Manchester. We also offer respite care for those who need a short term stay, whether that is to recover after a period of illness or to give family carers a well earned break. We know that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we do not take that lightly. From the moment someone first contacts us, we try to make the process as straightforward and as human as possible. We take time to understand each person properly before they move in, because good care starts long before someone walks through our door. Our team works hard to make Lightbowne Hall feel like a genuine home rather than an institution. We pay close attention to the small things, the routines people value, the foods they enjoy, the way they like to spend their time, because those details matter enormously to the people in our care and to their families. We are proud to hold a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the consistent effort our staff put in every single day. It is something we are pleased about, though we are always looking at how we can do better and listening to feedback from residents and their loved ones. Our location in Manchester means families are rarely far away, and we warmly encourage visits and involvement in the life of the home. Whether someone is joining us for a short respite stay or moving in on a permanent basis, we aim to make them feel settled, respected and at ease from the very start. If you would like to find out more or come and have a look around, please do get in touch.

Byron Lodge in Manchester is a residential care home caring for older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people with a physical disability and people with sight or hearing loss. Running a home with that range of needs works only if everybody is treated as an individual, which is where we start. Each person's support is planned with them and, where they want it, with their family, and it covers the practical help with washing, dressing, moving safely, medication and meals as well as the things that make a day worth having. Our staff are trained for the needs they support and they stay long enough to know people properly. Knowing somebody is what lets you notice that they are in pain when they cannot say so, or low rather than simply tired. For people living with dementia we keep routines predictable and surroundings familiar. The home is somewhere people live. Rooms are personalised, meals are cooked here, visitors are welcome and there is company for those who want it and quiet for those who do not. Respite and short stays can be arranged. Sunnyside is a residential care home in Tameside. We provide care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we also support some younger adults. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. We aim for an ordinary, comfortable household. Residents get up when they wake, eat what they actually enjoy and spend their days as they choose. Some are sociable and are downstairs from breakfast onwards. Others would rather have their own room and quiet. Both are perfectly reasonable. People usually arrive having struggled at home for a while, and the first few weeks are about settling rather than fitting in. We learn routines rather than imposing them, and we encourage people to bring their own furniture and pictures so a room becomes theirs quickly. Dementia care here rests on familiar staff, a steady rhythm and knowing something of a person's earlier life. Where somebody is distressed, we look for the cause. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather be upfront about that than leave you to find it elsewhere. We know which areas were raised, there is work under way, and we are happy to go through any of it. Please come and visit, ask us directly what has changed, and judge the home on what you see.

St Lawrences Lodge is a care home in the Tameside area of Manchester. We provide residential care for older people, including people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available. Because the people living here have genuinely different needs, we plan care one person at a time. What settles somebody with dementia is not what helps somebody living with a long standing mental health condition, and one routine stretched across everybody suits nobody in particular. So we spend our attention on the details: how a person likes to be addressed, what they can still do and would rather do themselves, what tends to make a bad day and what heads it off early. Where sight or hearing loss is involved, habits matter more than equipment. Saying who you are as you come into the room. Leaving furniture exactly where it lives. Checking that hearing aids and glasses are clean and working rather than assuming. People here decide when they get up, what they eat and how they spend the day. Visitors are welcome whenever suits them, and we would far rather a concern reached us early and bluntly than be stored up for months. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.

The Vicarage Residential Care Home is in Tameside. We care for older people who need support with everyday life, including residents living with dementia. What we provide is help with the ordinary business of the day: assistance to wash and dress, medication managed properly and on time, meals cooked on the premises, support to get about safely and staff available through the night. For residents living with dementia we keep the rhythm of the day predictable and the staff around them consistent, and we lean on what families can tell us about a person's history. We should be straightforward with you about our position. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We have been working through the points raised, particularly around record keeping, staff supervision and the consistency of care planning, and we would encourage anyone considering the home to ask us about that directly rather than take our word for it. Relatives are involved in that work, since they are best placed to judge whether things have actually improved. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our specialisms in Older Person Care and Residential Care mean that daily life here is shaped around the individual, respecting each resident's routines, preferences, and life story. For those living with dementia, our approach is grounded in patience, understanding, and specialist knowledge, helping residents feel calm, valued, and safe as they navigate the challenges of memory loss. We know how much reassurance this brings to loved ones, who can trust that their family member is being cared for by a team who truly understands their needs. We also provide Respite Care, offering short term stays for those who need a period of recovery, or simply to give family carers a well deserved break. Whether it is a few days or a few weeks, respite guests receive the same warmth and attentive care as our permanent residents, and many families find it a reassuring way to experience life at Firs Hall before considering longer term arrangements. The Care Quality Commission awarded us a Good rating across every domain at our most recent inspection in May 2022, recognising that we are Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. This consistency across all five areas reflects the everyday standards we hold ourselves to, from the way we support residents' wellbeing to the way we listen to families and continually improve. For anyone weighing up options, this independent assessment offers meaningful assurance that the care provided here meets the expectations you would rightly hope for. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the mixture of emotions that comes with it. If you are exploring options for a loved one in Manchester or the wider Oldham area, we would be delighted to welcome you for a visit, answer your questions, and show you what life at Firs Hall Care Home is truly like. Please do get in touch whenever you are ready, and we will be here to help guide you through every step.

Middleton Hall Care Home is in Rochdale, on the Manchester side. We provide residential care for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available. We try to run a household rather than a facility. Residents bring their own furniture and photographs, keep the routines they have always had and decide for themselves how much they want to be part of what is going on. Nobody is walked to an activity they have not chosen. When somebody moves in we take real time over their history and preferences and we write it down so that every member of staff knows it, because care that changes with whoever is on shift is not care we would accept for our own families. Dementia support rests on familiarity and pace. We keep staffing as consistent as we can, avoid unnecessary change and work out what settles a particular resident. Supporting mental health needs means patience and working alongside community teams. Where sight or hearing is failing we pay attention to lighting, contrast, signage and sound. Meals are cooked on the premises and residents have a genuine say in the menu. Visitors are welcome through the day. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see the home and talk to the people living in it.

Goldwell Manor is a residential care home in Chesterfield providing care for older people, including those living with dementia and people with a physical disability. People move in when managing at home has stopped being realistic, whether that has happened gradually over years or suddenly after a fall or an illness. Our first job is to make the change feel like relief rather than only loss, so we ask about a person's history, their family, their working life and their habits, and we use that to shape their days. Staff help with washing and dressing, with transfers and moving safely, with medication and with eating and drinking well, and they do it without rushing anybody. For those living with dementia we keep routines steady and surroundings familiar, and we learn what a person's behaviour is telling us rather than treating it as a problem to be managed. Meals are cooked on the premises with a real choice. There is company for those who want it and quiet for those who do not, and visitors are welcome. Respite and short stays can be arranged for families needing a break or people recovering after illness. If you would like to visit, please ring us and we will arrange a time.

Ashleigh Residential Home is in Chesterfield and we care for older people, including those living with dementia. We are not a nursing home, so what we do well is personal care, a settled daily rhythm and knowing everybody who lives here as a person rather than a set of needs. We help with washing and dressing, medication, meals and anything else that has become difficult, at the pace of the person rather than the pace of a rota. Residents decide when they get up and go to bed, where they sit, what they eat and whether they want company or a quiet afternoon on their own. For residents living with dementia we keep the surroundings familiar and the staff consistent, explain what is happening as we go and try to work out what is behind a change in mood instead of treating it as a symptom. Families usually know a person better than any assessment, and what they tell us shapes how we work. Mealtimes matter here. Food is cooked on the premises, we ask people what they actually fancy and nobody is hurried along. Respite stays are available, whether to give a family carer a break, to help somebody build strength back up after illness or to let a person see what living here is like before making a longer decision. You are welcome to visit and ask us anything.

Dale Brook Care Home is a residential care home in Chesterfield. We provide a home for older people who need support with daily living, for younger adults who need a supportive household, for people with physical disabilities and for people living with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available as well. What we aim for is an ordinary life with help attached rather than a routine everybody has to fit into. Residents decide when to get up, where to sit, whether they want company or quiet, and what they would like to eat. We help with personal care, dressing, medication and mobility, doing only as much as somebody actually needs, because taking over is easy and rarely helpful. Dementia care is a large part of our work. The practical side of it is unglamorous: keeping the daily rhythm and surroundings consistent, giving somebody time to find their words instead of finishing their sentence, and knowing enough about earlier life to understand what a worry is really about. Families hold most of that knowledge and we ask for it early. For residents with physical disabilities our attention goes to equipment that fits and transfers handled safely and without embarrassment. For those living with sight or hearing loss, unhurried communication makes most of the difference. We have not yet had an overall rating published by the Care Quality Commission, which we say plainly rather than leaving you to look it up. Come and see us on an ordinary afternoon and ask us anything you like.

Dale Brook Care Home is a residential care home in Chesterfield, supporting older people and younger adults from across Derbyshire, including people living with dementia and people with a physical disability. What we are aiming for is a household rather than an institution, and the difference tends to show in small things. Whether anybody knocks before coming into your room. Whether you can still make your own tea if you want to. Whether getting up at half past nine is treated as a preference or a problem. Whether the food is something to look forward to or something to be got through. For any of that to work, the practical side has to be dependable, so we are careful about personal care, medication, meals and having staff awake and available overnight. For residents with a physical disability we make sure the equipment and the help are there to get out of a room and about the house. Mobility lost because assistance was inconvenient is the easiest kind of loss to prevent and the hardest to undo. Dementia runs through much of our work. We stopped correcting people a long time ago. Consistent staff, a calm house and enough of somebody's history to find the thread of a conversation do far more, and relatives are usually the ones who can give us that. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. Visit at a busy time of day and ask the people who live here what they make of us.

Heather Vale is a residential care home near Chesterfield. We provide care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. We keep things straightforward. People usually come to us because managing at home had become hard work, and what they want back is some ease. Meals they do not have to plan or cook. Help when washing and dressing has become a struggle. Somebody who notices when they are not themselves. Company when they want it and quiet when they do not. Residents carry on running their own lives as far as they are able, choosing their routines, arranging their rooms and deciding how much of the day to spend downstairs. We ask people to bring their own furniture and pictures, because a room that looks like yours makes settling in far easier. Dementia care here is built on consistency rather than anything elaborate. Familiar staff, a steady rhythm to the day, and knowing something about a person's earlier life. When somebody is unsettled, we look for the reason rather than simply calming the moment. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather be upfront about that than leave you to find it elsewhere. We know which areas were raised, there is work under way, and we are happy to go through any of it. Please visit, ask us directly what has changed, and judge the home on what you see.

Elm House is a residential care home in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. We care for older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia, mental health conditions, learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities and sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Because the people who live here have quite different needs and ages, we plan around individuals rather than running the place to one pattern. Residents choose when to get up, what to eat, where to spend their day and how their support is provided. Rooms belong to the people living in them and we encourage everyone to make theirs their own. Supporting someone with dementia comes down to consistency, patience and knowing enough about the person's life to make sense of what they are telling us. We keep routines and faces as steady as we can and we respond to the feeling behind a question rather than correcting the facts. For residents with physical disabilities or sensory loss, the right equipment and sensible adjustments are what make independence possible, so we arrange those rather than simply doing more for people. For autistic residents and those with learning disabilities, we learn how each person communicates and prepare properly for change. Families and professionals are welcome and we want to hear from you when something is not right. Please get in touch if you would like to visit and look round.

We are Lindisfarne Ouston in Chester Le Street, County Durham. We provide both residential and nursing care for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people living with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Respite stays are available. Because we offer residential and nursing care together, people do not have to move on when their health needs increase. Families are often anxious about exactly that, and it is why we work at keeping our nursing team stable rather than relying on a constant stream of agency cover. Nursing settings can easily feel clinical, so we push against it. People get up when they want, eat what they like, sit where they choose and keep their own furniture, pictures and habits. We ask about the details of a life, the work someone did, the music they like, the hour they prefer to be left in peace, and we write those into how we work so they survive a change of shift. For people living with dementia, the useful work is in the detail: knowing a person's history, recognising early what unsettles them, going at their pace. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please ring us if you would like to visit.

Appletree Grange is a residential care home in Chester le Street. We are home to older people who need support with daily life, including many living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for people recovering from illness or giving a family carer a break. Most of the people who live here come from this part of the north east, and that shared background does real work. Familiar names, familiar places and the same dry humour give people something to hold on to, and a proper conversation over a cup of tea is worth more than most organised activity. Residents run their own days. When to get up and go to bed, what to eat, whether to sit with others or keep to their own room with their own things around them. Rooms hold people's own furniture and photographs, and nobody comes in without knocking. For residents living with dementia, consistency is what helps most, so we keep staffing settled, learn each person's history properly and use it to make sense of what they are telling us. When somebody is distressed we look for the reason rather than trying to close it down. Health needs are managed alongside local GPs and community nurses, and families hear from us early rather than late. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Tegfield House is a residential care home in Winchester, Hampshire. We are home to older people who need support with daily life, including many living with dementia, and to younger adults who need residential care. We also offer respite stays. Moving into a home usually follows a difficult period, so we take the settling in slowly. We ask about the routines somebody has kept for decades, the food they actually like, how they take their tea and whether they would rather be up early or have a lie in, and we build around that rather than expecting people to adapt to us. Rooms hold people's own furniture and photographs, and we knock before we come in. Days here are not heavily timetabled. Company, conversation, music and time in the garden for those who want them, the newspaper and quiet for those who do not. For residents living with dementia, familiarity does most of the work, so we keep our team settled and learn each person's history properly. When somebody is distressed we look for the reason behind it rather than trying to close it down. We work with local GPs and community nurses so health changes are picked up early, and families are kept properly informed. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us outstanding overall. We were glad of it and know it has to be earned again every day. Please come and look round.

Nestled within the historic county of Hampshire, our home has been thoughtfully designed to feel like a true home from the moment you step through our doors. Set within the peaceful SO postcode area of Winchester, our home benefits from the gentle rhythm of this beautiful cathedral city whilst offering residents a calm and settled environment in which to thrive. The surrounding area, with its blend of countryside charm and rich heritage, provides a wonderful backdrop for our residents, their loved ones, and the wider community we are pleased to be part of. Inside, we have created spaces that feel comfortable, familiar, and safe, where residents can relax, socialise, or enjoy quieter moments as they wish. Our care spans a broad range of needs, and we take great pride in tailoring our support to each individual who joins us. For older people, we provide compassionate residential care that upholds dignity, independence, and choice at every stage. For those living with dementia, our team offers patient, understanding support that focuses on reassurance, routine, and meaningful connection, helping residents to feel secure whilst continuing to enjoy the things that bring them comfort and joy. We also welcome younger adults who require residential care, ensuring their individual needs, interests, and aspirations are fully respected within a supportive community setting. We understand that caring for a loved one can sometimes feel overwhelming, and that families occasionally need a helping hand. Our respite care option provides a warm and welcoming stay for those needing short term support, whether following a hospital discharge, during a family holiday, or simply to give a regular carer a well earned break. Every respite guest is treated with the same care, warmth, and attention as our permanent residents, and many families find that a short stay offers valuable peace of mind and a chance to recharge. Quality and safety sit at the heart of everything we do. Following our most recent CQC inspection in August 2025, Shawford Springs Care Home was rated Good overall, with a Good rating awarded across all five key areas: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. This consistent recognition reflects the dedication of our team and the standard of care our residents receive each and every day. For families, this rating offers reassurance that their loved one is in capable, compassionate hands, and that the home is well managed, responsive to individual needs, and committed to continuous improvement. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we want you to feel confident, informed, and supported throughout the journey. Whether you are exploring long term residential care for a parent, considering specialist dementia support, seeking a home that welcomes younger adults, or looking for a short respite stay, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please do get in touch to arrange a visit, ask any questions, or simply have a chat about how we can help. Selwood House Care Home is in Dorchester, providing residential care for older people who can no longer manage safely on their own. We keep the feel of a house rather than a unit, with people keeping their own habits, their own belongings and a real say in how their day is spent. We support people living with dementia, and that work rests on continuity above all else. Knowing what somebody's day used to look like, keeping as much of it as we can and understanding what lies behind distress rather than simply managing it is what makes the difference between a settled day and a hard one. We also care for younger adults, and we plan their day around their own interests. Respite stays are available too, whether somebody needs care for a short period after illness or a family carer needs a genuine break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Brook House is a residential care home in Colchester. We provide a permanent home for older people and for younger adults, we support residents living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for people who need care for a shorter period or whose family carer needs a rest. What we aim for is ordinary life, well supported. That means people getting up when they want to, eating food they actually like, keeping up with the things and the people that matter to them, and having help at hand without it taking over. For residents living with dementia it also means consistency: familiar faces, a steady rhythm to the day, and staff who know a person's history well enough to make sense of what they are telling us. We want to be straightforward about where we stand. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are not going to talk around that. We have taken the findings seriously, we are working through what was identified, and we would rather a family asked us directly what has changed than took a rating on a website as the whole story. Anyone considering Brook House for a relative is welcome to come and look properly, at a time that suits them, and to speak to the people who live and work here. We think that tells you more than any description we could write, including this one.

Nayland House is a residential care home near Colchester supporting older people, including those living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. Younger adults whose needs are best met in a residential setting are welcome too, and we offer respite stays. We try to run the place the way a household runs rather than the way an institution does. People get up when they are ready. Belongings, habits and opinions come with the person and stay theirs. Meals are worth sitting down to and worth having a view about. Where somebody can manage a thing themselves, we support rather than take over, even when doing it for them would be quicker. For people living with dementia, familiarity carries most of the weight. Consistent faces, a predictable shape to the day, food and music from the right part of a life, and staff who neither hurry nor correct. Families often hold the piece of knowledge that turns a hard week around, so we ask and we listen. Respite stays give a family carer a break that is genuinely a break, with proper support in place for the person staying. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. New Copford Place Residential Care Home in Colchester provides residential care for older people, including many residents living with dementia. We are a home rather than an institution, and we try to keep daily life here comfortable, familiar and unhurried. People get up when they are ready and spend their time as they wish, whether that is in company in the lounge, out in the garden, or quietly in their own room. Meals are cooked on the premises and we will gladly make something different for anyone who fancies it. Help with washing and dressing is given calmly, because dignity is largely a matter of pace and manner. Dementia care asks for patience rather than correction. When a resident is anxious, or looking for a person or place from an earlier part of their life, we respond to the feeling instead of arguing with the facts, and we work out what will genuinely settle them. Knowing a person's history is central to that, so we gather it early from the people who know them best. Families are welcome throughout the day, and we would much rather hear about a worry early than late. We also offer respite stays for shorter periods. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

We are Tudor House, a care home in Colchester in Essex. We provide residential care for adults with a wide range of needs, including people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people with physical disabilities, and people living with sight or hearing loss. We also offer respite stays, which can be a real help to families who need a planned break. Because the people living here have very different needs, we plan support one person at a time. What helps someone with a learning disability feel confident is not the same as what helps someone with dementia feel calm, and we would rather do both properly than offer one routine and hope it fits everybody. In practice that means paying attention to detail: how somebody likes to be spoken to, what upsets them, what they can do for themselves and would rather not have done for them. Communication is a large part of our work. Where someone uses signs, pictures, gestures or simply a look to tell us something, we learn it, we write it down so new staff know it too, and we check that we have understood rather than assuming. Colchester gives us plenty to do beyond our own front door, and we support people to get out, keep up with interests and see family and friends as often as they wish. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our last inspection. We are glad of it, and we still hold regular conversations with residents and relatives about what could be better here.

Loganberry Lodge is a residential care home in Colchester, Essex. We are home to older people and to younger adults who need support with everyday life, including people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment. The care we give is residential rather than nursing. Staff are here through the night as well as the day to help with personal care, dressing, medication and meals, while local doctors and district nurses look after clinical needs. For most people that combination works well and leaves their independence largely intact. Dementia care rests on consistency and on knowing the person. A day that runs in a familiar order, the same faces turning up and surroundings that are easy to make sense of will settle somebody more surely than any programme of activities. We take time to learn about a person's working life, family and habits, because that is what allows us to understand them when words become difficult. Sight and hearing loss are taken seriously rather than worked around. Somebody who cannot follow what is going on will withdraw, and withdrawal is too easily mistaken for decline. Respite and short stays are available, for planned breaks and for recovery after illness. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. You are welcome to come and look round Loganberry Lodge.

Stanway Green Lodge is a residential care home in Colchester. We care for older people who need support with daily living, including those living with dementia, those living with mental health conditions, those with a physical disability and those whose sight or hearing is impaired. Our care is the practical, daily kind: help to wash and dress, medication given properly, meals cooked here, support to move about safely and staff available through the night. Around that, residents arrange their own time as they wish, and we try not to organise people's lives on their behalf. For residents living with dementia we keep the rhythm of the day predictable and the staff around them consistent. Where sight or hearing is impaired we keep belongings exactly where they are expected and check that we have been understood. For people living with mental health conditions, consistency and staff who stay steady when things are difficult count for a great deal. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families across Essex are welcome to visit.

Crouched Friars is a residential care home in Colchester providing care for older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia. People come to us at different points. Some have managed at home for years with increasing difficulty, others arrive suddenly after a fall or a spell in hospital. Either way the early weeks matter, and we spend them learning about the person, their family and their habits, because that is what allows us to offer care that fits rather than care in general. Staff help with washing and dressing, with moving about safely, with medication and with eating and drinking well, and they do it at the pace of the person. For those living with dementia we keep the day predictable and the surroundings familiar, adjust how we communicate rather than expecting the person to adjust to us, and treat distress as something to be understood. The home is somewhere people live. Rooms are personalised, meals are cooked here with a genuine choice, there is company for those who want it and quiet for those who do not, and visitors are welcome. Respite and short stays can be arranged. If you would like to look round, please telephone us and we will arrange a time.

Milton Lodge Retirement Home is a residential care home in Colchester, Essex. We are home to older people who need support with everyday life, including residents living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for people who need care for a shorter period or whose family carer needs a break. We keep our work deliberately focused. Residential care for older people is what we do, and we would rather do it attentively than spread ourselves across every kind of need. Residents tell us when they like to wake, what they want to eat, how much help they want with washing and dressing and how they prefer to spend the day, and the day is built from those answers rather than from a rota that suits us. Dementia care runs through a great deal of what we do. We take time to learn a person's history, the people and places that matter to them and the rhythms that help them feel settled, because that knowledge is what allows us to offer reassurance when someone is anxious rather than correct them. We keep the day predictable and explain changes in advance where we can. Independence is protected wherever it exists, and company matters as much as practical help. Families are welcome whenever they want to visit and we would far rather hear a concern early. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Gables is a residential care home in Colchester in Essex. We support adults living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available. Because the people living here have genuinely different needs, we plan care one person at a time. What settles somebody with dementia is not what gives an adult with a learning disability confidence, and running one routine across both would suit neither. So we spend our attention on particulars: how somebody likes to be addressed, what they can do themselves and would rather we left alone, what makes a difficult day and what heads it off early. Where a physical disability or sensory loss affects how somebody gets about, we design around the person rather than expecting them to accommodate the building. Small habits carry a lot of weight: saying who you are as you come into a room, leaving furniture exactly where it lives, checking that glasses and hearing aids are clean and working. Understanding how each person communicates is central, especially where speech is not the main route, and what we learn is written down so that everybody responds the same way. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection.

Augusta Court is a residential care home in Chichester. We provide a home for older people who need support with daily living, and for younger adults who need a supportive household. Respite stays are available as well. The first fortnight after a move matters enormously, and we give it real thought. Before somebody arrives we want to know what time they wake, how they take their tea, what they cannot abide and who they want to be able to ring. Those details are what begin turning a strange room into their room. We help with personal care, dressing, medication and mobility, and we do only as much as somebody needs. Where a resident can still manage something themselves, they keep it, and we are in no hurry to take things over. Dementia care is a large part of our work, and we treat it as caring for a person rather than managing a condition. We keep the day's rhythm steady and the surroundings familiar, give people time instead of finishing their sentences for them, and ask families about earlier life, because that knowledge is what makes sense of a mood or a repeated question. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Come and see us on an ordinary afternoon. A home is much easier to judge when nothing has been arranged for a visitor's benefit, and we would rather you saw us as we are.

Cleaveland Lodge is a residential care home in Colchester, Essex. We care for older people, including many residents living with dementia, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Our work is daily life supported well, with general practitioners, district nurses and other community professionals brought in when they are needed. Families usually come to see us after months of worrying, and the most useful thing we can do at that point is answer their questions straight, including the ones they feel uncomfortable asking. What happens if he will not get up. Can he bring his own chair. What do you do when someone is distressed at night. We would far rather have those conversations plainly at the beginning than paper over them. The daily work is unremarkable and needs doing consistently. Unrushed help with washing and dressing, medication given properly, meals people actually want and staff who notice when a resident is not themselves. For people living with dementia we keep the routine predictable and the faces familiar. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

We at Lakeview Grange are proud to offer compassionate residential care in the beautiful cathedral city of Chichester, West Sussex. As a dedicated residential care home, we provide a warm, welcoming environment where residents can feel truly at home, supported by a team who understand that every individual deserves personalised, respectful care. Nestled within the PO postcode area, our home benefits from the peaceful charm of Chichester and its surrounding countryside. The city itself is known for its rich heritage, elegant streets, and close proximity to the South Downs and the Sussex coast, offering residents and visiting families a tranquil yet vibrant setting. Our location makes it easy for loved ones from across West Sussex and the wider South East to visit regularly and stay connected. At Lakeview Grange, we specialise in a broad range of care needs, ensuring that we can support residents through many stages of life. Our older person care and residential care focus on providing everyday support with dignity, whether that involves help with personal care, medication, mobility, or simply companionship throughout the day. For those living with dementia, our team offers gentle, consistent support designed to reduce anxiety, encourage familiarity, and promote moments of joy and connection with family and friends. We also welcome residents living with a physical disability, as well as those with visual or hearing impairments, adapting our approach so that each person can continue to enjoy independence, communication, and meaningful engagement in daily life. Our support extends to younger adults who may benefit from a caring residential setting, and we offer respite care for families who need short term support, whether following a hospital stay, during a family holiday, or simply to give a regular carer a well earned break. In practice, this breadth of specialism means families can feel reassured that their loved one will be understood as a whole person, not defined by a single diagnosis or need. We take time to learn about each resident's life story, preferences, and routines, working closely with families to shape care that feels familiar and comforting. Lakeview Grange is currently awaiting its first Care Quality Commission inspection and therefore holds a status of Not Yet Rated. Whilst we look forward to welcoming the CQC and demonstrating the standards we uphold every day, we warmly encourage prospective families to visit us in person, meet our team, and see for themselves the quality of care, warmth, and community that defines our home. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we are here to walk alongside you at every step. If you would like to arrange a visit, ask questions, or simply have a friendly conversation about your loved one's needs, please do get in touch. At Lakeview Grange, you will find a home built on kindness, respect, and genuine care.

We are Quenby Rest Home in Colchester, Essex. We provide residential care for older people, including those living with dementia and people managing a mental health condition, and we also take respite stays. Residential care means supporting people with the parts of daily life that have become hard work and leaving everything else in the hands of the person themselves. Washing and dressing, meals, medication, getting about safely, and the ordinary company that makes a day worth getting up for. For health needs beyond what we provide, we work alongside district nurses and GPs rather than stretching to cover something we should not, and we are straightforward with families about where that boundary falls. Dementia shapes a good deal of our day. We have found that correcting somebody's version of events achieves nothing, and that knowing who a person has been tells us far more than any list of symptoms. Someone who worked for decades to a particular rhythm often still carries it, and a routine built around that goes better than one imposed on top. Where a mental health condition is part of the picture, the same principles apply. Consistency, staff who do not take a difficult day personally, and a routine that is there to lean on rather than to enforce. Respite guests are assessed and welcomed exactly as permanent residents are, whether they are recovering after illness or giving a family carer a break.

Lake View Lodge is a residential care home in Rochester, supporting older people and younger adults across Medway, including people living with dementia and people with a physical disability. People rarely move into a care home at a cheerful moment. It usually follows a fall, a hospital admission, a bereavement, or a long slow period in which managing at home stopped being realistic. We treat the first few weeks as the part that matters most, and we take them at the pace of the person rather than the paperwork. After that, what we offer is deliberately ordinary. Food cooked here that people want to eat. Personal care given calmly and privately. Medication handled properly. Help to move about safely, with the right equipment and staff who know how each person prefers to be assisted. A house with enough going on to give the day a shape and no obligation to take part. Dementia runs through a lot of our work. We have long since stopped correcting people about the date or the whereabouts of someone long gone. Familiar staff, a calm house and a bit of imagination work far better, and relatives usually know the detail that unlocks a difficult afternoon. We support younger adults alongside older residents, and that mix does the house good. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. Come and see us at a busy time of day and ask whatever you need to.

Lake View Lodge is a residential care home in Rochester. We are home to older people, including many living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. We support younger adults as well, and we offer respite stays. We aim at the basics and try to do them properly: food worth eating, warmth, clean clothes, prompt help, and the freedom to spend a day however you like. What we do take real trouble over is knowing people. Their working life, their family, which chair is theirs, how they take their tea. Those details are how somebody remains a person here rather than becoming a resident, and none of them can be learned from paperwork. Relatives are part of how we work rather than visitors to it. They usually know things about a person that no assessment captures, and we ask them. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. We would rather say so openly than write around it. Anyone considering us should come without an appointment, talk to residents and relatives, and ask us whatever they want, because that will tell them more than anything written here.

The Oaks Residential Care Home in Colchester supports older people, including residents living with dementia, residents managing mental health conditions and residents with a visual or hearing impairment. We aim to be a comfortable, steady sort of place where staff and residents know one another properly. The day is not run to a rigid timetable. People get up when they are ready, eat food cooked here that is worth looking forward to, and spend their time in company or quietly as they prefer. Where someone has a sensory impairment we pay attention to the details that make the difference. Saying who we are as we come into the room, explaining what is about to happen before we help, keeping belongings where they were left, and making sure nobody is left out of what is going on around them. For residents living with dementia we keep routines familiar and our approach unhurried, and we spend real time learning a person's earlier life, because that is usually what allows us to settle someone who is anxious. Relatives are welcome at any reasonable hour, and we would far rather hear a concern from you early than discover it late. We also offer respite stays. Sussex Grange Residential Care Home is in Chichester, West Sussex. We provide a home for older people who need support with daily living, including people living with dementia and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Chester
How these homes are registered
All one hundred and thirty five providers matching this search in Chester are residential care homes. That registration shapes everything else. It means the people on duty are care staff trained to support daily living, washing, dressing, meals, medication prompting and the familiar routines that help keep someone with dementia oriented, rather than registered nurses delivering clinical care on the premises. Health needs are met by visiting district nurses and the person's own GP. Where the clinical picture is already complicated, with wound care, assisted feeding or an unstable long term condition in play, a home carrying a nursing registration is the better comparison to make.
Reading the regulator's record properly
Quality across these homes is genuinely uneven. Care Quality Commission ratings of Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement and Inadequate are all present in this set, and some homes have no rating yet, which reflects where they sit in the inspection cycle rather than anything about the care itself. A single headline word is a starting point and not a verdict. The five domain judgements underneath it, covering whether a home is safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led, carry the detail that actually helps, and for dementia the caring and responsive domains tend to say most. A home marked down over record keeping is a very different proposition from one where inspectors raised concerns about overnight staffing.
What to notice when you visit
Ask to come in the late afternoon, when tiredness and confusion often peak and a home is seen at its most honest. Watch whether staff crouch to eye level and use residents' names, whether there is anything occupying people beyond a television left on, and whether someone can walk a circuit safely without being steered back to a chair. A settled staff team matters more than new decor, because familiar faces reduce distress in a way that furnishings never will. Ask plainly how the home responds when a resident becomes distressed or tries to leave, and listen for a considered answer rather than a reassuring one.
Choosing between dementia care homes in Chester
Beginning with a care needs assessment
The practical starting point is a care needs assessment, and Cheshire West and Chester Council is the authority responsible for providing one to anyone in Chester who appears to need care and support. The assessment is free and is not means tested, and it produces a written account of what the person needs that remains useful even to a family intending to pay privately. A relative providing regular support can request a separate carer's assessment of their own needs at the same time.
Who pays, and the cost context to expect
A financial assessment follows, in which capital and income are measured against the national means test thresholds. Above the upper capital limit a placement is paid for privately; below it the council contributes a calculated share, and someone funding their own care may still ask the council to arrange the placement on their behalf. Dementia care usually costs more than standard residential care, because the staffing ratios and specialist training required are higher, so ask every home for a written schedule of fees setting out exactly what is included and what is billed separately. Confirm in writing what would happen if savings run down or needs increase, and ask whether the home accepts council funded placements at all, since that answer prevents a great deal of wasted effort later.

Which providers in Chester offer dementia care?
140 residential care homes in Chester match this search for dementia care, and each one appears in the listing above with its own profile. Every provider in the set is registered as a residential care home, meaning personal care and daily support rather than nursing delivered on site. Their Care Quality Commission ratings vary considerably, from Outstanding through to Inadequate, with some homes not yet rated. Opening each profile lets you compare the registration details and the inspection history side by side before you contact anyone.
What should I ask when visiting a dementia care home in Chester?
Ask how many staff are on duty overnight as well as during the day, and how long the current team has been in post. Ask what happens when a resident becomes distressed, tries to leave, or refuses personal care, and ask for a specific example rather than a policy statement. Find out how care plans are written with families and how often they are revisited as someone's needs change. It is also worth asking what a typical afternoon looks like, since meaningful occupation makes a measurable difference to wellbeing in dementia.
How does a dementia care home differ from a dementia nursing home?
A residential dementia care home provides personal care, supervision and support with everyday living, delivered by trained care staff. Nursing needs in that setting are met by visiting community health professionals such as district nurses and the person's GP. A dementia nursing home, by contrast, has registered nurses on duty around the clock and is registered to deliver clinical care itself, which suits people with complex or unstable health conditions. All the providers matching this search in Chester are residential care homes, so anyone needing continuous nursing input should compare nursing registered homes instead.
Can Cheshire West and Chester Council fund a dementia care home placement?
It can, where the care needs assessment identifies eligible needs and the financial assessment shows that capital and income fall below the national upper threshold. The council then contributes a calculated share of the fees, with the resident paying an assessed contribution from income and capital. Above the upper capital limit the placement is self funded, although the council can still be asked to arrange it. Where nursing care forms part of the package, NHS funded nursing care may cover the nursing element separately, so it is sensible to ask about both routes.
How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Chester?
Contact the adult social care team at Cheshire West and Chester Council and ask for a care needs assessment, which anyone who appears to need care and support is entitled to request. A referral can also come through a GP, a hospital discharge team or a community nurse, and a family member can make the request on someone's behalf. The assessment itself is free and carries no means test, and it results in a written record of eligible needs. Ask at the same time for a carer's assessment if a relative is providing regular support.
How far ahead should we start looking for dementia care in Chester?
Several months ahead is sensible wherever the move is foreseeable rather than urgent, because the best regarded homes often have waiting lists and a rushed decision narrows the options sharply. Starting early also leaves room to visit more than once, at different times of day, which is where the most useful impressions come from. Where a hospital discharge or a carer's own illness forces the pace, say so clearly when requesting the assessment, as that affects how quickly it is arranged. Even in an urgent situation it is worth reading the full inspection report on any home before agreeing to a placement.
