    • Care Home

Hillcrest Residential Care Home is in Frodsham in Cheshire. We care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we welcome respite guests as well as people moving in for the longer term. We are not a large place and we do not want to be. Being small means people are known properly rather than in outline, that staff notice when somebody is not themselves, and that the day can be arranged around the people living here rather than the other way about. Getting up when you like, eating what you want, having your own things around you and seeing visitors whenever they call are ordinary parts of life and we treat them as such. Staff help with washing, dressing, medication, meals and moving about, and they do it without making a fuss of it. For people living with dementia we keep things familiar and unhurried, and we ask families to tell us about a person's life in some detail, because knowing somebody's history is nearly always what helps us understand what they need in the moment. Respite stays matter to us too. Caring for a relative at home is demanding work and a planned break is often what makes it possible to keep going. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Do come and look round, meet the team and speak to relatives of people who live here.

    • Care Home

We are a residential home in Frodsham, providing a home for older people who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia. We try to run the place so that it belongs to the people who live in it. Residents have their own rooms with their own belongings, get up and go to bed when they choose and decide how they want to spend their days. Meals are cooked here and we listen when somebody says they would rather have something else. Much of what makes a home worth living in is small and unglamorous: being helped to wash without being rushed, a hot drink at the time you actually want it, somebody noticing when you have gone quiet and sitting down with you. Dementia care, as we have come to understand it, is mostly a matter of knowing the person. We ask families to tell us about working life, children, music, faith and old habits, because that knowledge is what allows a member of staff to reassure somebody who is frightened or cannot place where they are. Family and friends are welcome whenever they would like to come, and we would always rather a relative raised a concern straight away. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Do come and look round and ask us anything.

    • Care Home

Heathercliffe Residential Care Home is in Frodsham, Cheshire, providing a comfortable and settled place to live for older people who need support nearby. We are not a large place and we do not run like one. The kitchen, the lounge and the garden are used as they would be in any household, and days belong to the people living them. A good part of our work is supporting residents living with dementia. We do that by learning each person's history and habits, keeping routines familiar, explaining changes in advance and giving people time rather than hurrying them. When somebody is unsettled we look for the reason rather than treating it as something to be managed. Our team helps with personal care, medication, mobility and meals, and equally with the things that make a day worth having: conversation, company, a walk outside, or simply being left in peace with the newspaper. Family and friends are welcome whenever they can come. We also offer respite stays, which can give a family carer a break or serve as a gentle trial for somebody considering a move. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. Please come and see us on an ordinary day and ask us whatever you would like to know.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Frodsham

More than a locked door

A home designed around dementia is more than a home with a locked door. Ask what dementia training the staff have completed and how often it is refreshed, how many carers are on duty overnight and how long the team has worked together, since familiar faces matter a great deal. Ask how the home handles disturbed nights, refusal of food and walking with purpose, and whether the garden can be used safely without supervision. Ask how someone who becomes distressed in the evening is supported, and how the day is shaped for people who cannot follow a group activity.

Three Good reports, read properly

Heathercliffe Residential Care home, Newton Hall Residential Home and Hillcrest Residential Care Home all hold a Good rating, so the reports are where the differences appear. Look for what inspectors say about staffing levels, about support for people living with dementia who become distressed, and about activities that suit someone unable to follow a group. Check when each inspection took place, since a judgement can be a few years old and managers change. Where a report notes something inspectors asked a provider to strengthen, raise it directly and weigh the answer.

Choosing between dementia care homes in Frodsham

Asking for the assessment

Anyone who may need care can ask for an assessment of need, free of charge and whatever their savings, and it records how someone manages washing, dressing, medication, eating, orientation and risk at home. Ask Cheshire West and Chester Council Adult Social Care to carry it out and to arrange the financial assessment that follows, which decides whether funded support applies. Where there is a diagnosis, ask for it and the current medication list to be included, since homes rely on that detail.

Fees and what shapes them

Fees are quoted weekly and cover the room, meals, laundry and personal care, with extras such as hairdressing, chiropody and outings charged on top. A place in a unit designed around dementia can carry a higher fee, so ask what it buys in staffing and training terms. Where capital falls below the national threshold, the council may contribute after its financial assessment, and above it the place is funded privately. Ask what happens if nursing care becomes necessary, because not every home can keep someone through that change. Ask too how often fees are reviewed and what happens during a hospital admission.

Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Frodsham

How many dementia care homes are there in Frodsham?

Frodsham has 3 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 4 CQC registered care homes in Frodsham: 3 Good. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.

Which dementia care homes in Frodsham were inspected most recently?

Heathercliffe Residential Care home (9 January 2026), Hillcrest Residential Care Home (9 January 2020) and Newton Hall Residential Home (12 March 2019) have the most recent CQC reports.

Which providers in Frodsham offer dementia care?

Three registered care homes match this search: Heathercliffe Residential Care home, Newton Hall Residential Home and Hillcrest Residential Care Home. All three are registered as residential care homes rather than nursing homes. Each holds a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission at present. The profiles set out the provider details and the current rating.

What should we ask when visiting a dementia care home in Frodsham?

Ask what dementia training staff have completed and how often it is refreshed, and how many carers are on duty overnight. Ask how the home supports someone who becomes distressed or restless, how disturbed nights are managed and what happens when food is refused. Ask to see a care plan and the recent activity programme, and ask how life history is used to make the day personal. Finish by asking what happens if nursing care becomes necessary.

What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?

Both support people living with dementia, but the registration differs. A care home provides help with daily living from trained care staff, while a nursing home also keeps a qualified nurse on the premises at all times for wounds, feeding tubes, injections and unstable conditions. The homes on this page are registered for residential care. If nursing needs are likely to develop, raise that during the assessment so the right registration is considered.

Can Cheshire West and Chester Council fund a dementia care home placement?

It can contribute where the needs assessment shows residential care is required and the financial assessment shows capital below the national threshold. The council pays up to the rate it will meet and the resident contributes from income such as pensions. Above the threshold, the placement is funded privately until savings fall to that level. Where a property is involved, ask about a deferred payment arrangement.

How do we arrange a care needs assessment in Frodsham?

Contact Cheshire West and Chester Council and ask for an adult social care needs assessment for the person living with dementia. An assessor will go through memory, medication, mobility, daily routines and safety at home, on a visit or by telephone. The assessment is free and does not depend on income or savings. The written outcome is what homes will want to read before offering a place.

How early should we start looking?

Dementia progresses unevenly, so looking before a move becomes urgent is sensible. Where it can be planned, two or three months allows for the assessment, repeat visits and a funding decision. Rooms suited to dementia care are limited and may not be free in the week you need one. If the move follows a hospital stay, tell the ward and the discharge team early what you are looking for.
