    • Care Home

We at Daneside Mews are proud to offer a warm and welcoming residential care home in the heart of Northwich, Cheshire. Nestled within this much loved Cheshire town, our home provides specialist residential care for older people, including those living with dementia, in a setting designed to feel comfortable, familiar, and reassuringly homely. Our location in Northwich places us within easy reach of local amenities, green spaces, and the wider Cheshire West and Chester community, making visits from family and friends straightforward and relaxed. The surrounding area offers a peaceful backdrop for residents, whilst still keeping the rhythms of everyday town life close at hand. Inside, we have created an environment that prioritises comfort, dignity, and ease of movement, with spaces that encourage residents to socialise, enjoy quiet reflection, or take part in shared activities at their own pace. At the heart of what we do is person centred care for older adults. Our team understands that every resident arrives with their own life story, preferences, and routines, and we take the time to learn these so that the support we provide feels personal rather than prescribed. For families considering residential care for an older relative, this means knowing that mum, dad, or a loved one is somewhere they are genuinely known and valued. Dementia care is a particular focus for us at Daneside Mews. Supporting residents living with memory loss, confusion, or the changing needs that dementia can bring requires patience, skill, and a deep respect for the individual. Our approach centres on creating a calm, consistent environment where familiar routines, gentle encouragement, and meaningful engagement help residents feel safe and settled. For relatives, this often brings enormous peace of mind, knowing that their loved one is being supported by a team that understands dementia is not just a diagnosis but a journey that affects the whole family. We are pleased to share that the Care Quality Commission rated Daneside Mews as Good overall following its most recent inspection in September 2023, with Good ratings achieved across all five key areas: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. For families, a consistent Good rating across every domain offers meaningful reassurance. It reflects an independent view that residents are kept safe, that the care provided makes a positive difference, that staff are genuinely compassionate, that support is shaped around individual needs, and that the home is managed with care and accountability. Choosing a care home is rarely an easy decision, and we recognise the emotional weight that families carry when exploring options for someone they love. If you are considering residential or dementia care in the Northwich area, we warmly invite you to get in touch, ask questions, or arrange a visit to see our home for yourself. We would be delighted to welcome you and to help you discover whether Daneside Mews could be the right next chapter for your loved one.

    • Care Home

Daneside Mews is a residential care home in Northwich, supporting older people from across Cheshire West and Chester, including many people living with dementia. Our ambition here is unfashionably plain: we want the ordinary days to be good ones. Food cooked in our own kitchen that people look forward to. Personal care given calmly and in private. Medication managed properly. Warm rooms that look like they belong to the person in them. Somebody awake at night. Enough going on in the house that there is a reason to come downstairs, and no pressure at all on anybody who would rather not. People keep their own habits wherever we can arrange it. A home that insists everybody rises at the same hour and bathes to a schedule has stopped being a home and become a timetable with beds in it. Dementia care is most of what we do and we have clear views about it. Correcting somebody about the year, or about where a long dead spouse has got to, helps nobody at all. Familiar staff, a calm and unhurried house, and knowing enough of a person's life to find the thread of a conversation help enormously. Relatives are our best source of that history, and we ask for it early rather than as a form filling exercise. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We would rather keep improving than defend a grade. Come and see us at a busy time and ask the residents what they think.

    • Care Home

Crossways Residential Care Home is in Northwich, supporting older people, including those living with dementia, and some younger adults whose needs suit a home of this kind. We help with washing and dressing, medication, meals and anything else that has become difficult, and we try to leave people in charge of everything else. Residents decide when they get up and go to bed, where they spend the day, what they eat and whether they want company or a quiet room with the door closed. For residents living with dementia we keep the house familiar and the staff consistent, explain what is happening as we go and take time to understand what is behind a change in mood rather than treating it as a problem to be managed. Families usually know a person far better than any assessment does, and what they tell us shapes how we work. Meals are cooked here, we ask people what they actually want to eat and nobody is hurried through a plate. Visitors are welcome at any reasonable time and families are free to stay for a cup of tea or take a relative out for the afternoon. Respite stays are available for family carers needing a break or for somebody regaining strength after illness. Please ring us if you would like to visit and look round properly.

    • Care Home

Acorn Meadow is a care home in Northwich, and we support older people and younger adults across Cheshire West and Chester. Some of the people living here need residential support because day to day life had become unmanageable at home, some are living with dementia, and some have mental health needs that are easier to hold steady with the right support around them. We think a care home should feel like a household rather than an institution. That means meals people look forward to, a sitting room where conversation happens, and staff who know the difference between helping someone and doing everything for them. Independence is not an all or nothing thing. If a person can still make their own bed, pour their own tea or choose their own clothes, then that is theirs to keep and our job is to make it possible. Where dementia is part of the picture we try to meet people where they are. Arguing with someone's version of the afternoon rarely helps; sitting with them usually does. For those with mental health needs, we work patiently and we work with the professionals already involved rather than starting from scratch. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We would rather keep improving than settle there, and the quickest way to see whether we mean that is to visit and ask us awkward questions.

    • Care Home

We at Gleavewood Residential Care Home offer warm, attentive residential care in the heart of Northwich, Cheshire. Our home provides a welcoming setting for older people, younger adults, and those living with dementia, creating a place where comfort, dignity, and genuine companionship come together every day. Nestled within the CW postcode area of Northwich, our home benefits from the friendly community spirit of this much loved Cheshire town. The surrounding area offers a peaceful backdrop for daily life, whilst remaining easily reachable for families travelling from across Cheshire West and Chester and the wider North West region. Inside, we focus on creating an environment that feels less like an institution and more like home, with comfortable communal spaces where residents can relax, share a cup of tea, or simply enjoy quiet moments. Our specialisms span residential care for older people, dedicated dementia support, and care for younger adults with longer term needs. In practice, this means our team takes time to understand each resident as an individual, learning their history, preferences, and routines so that daily life feels familiar and reassuring. For families of those living with dementia, we know how important consistency and patience are, and we strive to provide a calm, structured environment where loved ones feel safe and understood. For younger adults in our care, we recognise that their needs and aspirations may differ, and we aim to support meaningful engagement, independence where possible, and a sense of purpose in everyday life. We are proud that the Care Quality Commission rated our home Good overall at our latest inspection in December 2023, with Good ratings achieved across all five key areas: safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well led. For families, this independent assessment offers reassurance that the standards of care, safety, and leadership at Gleavewood meet the expectations you would rightly hope for when entrusting us with someone you love. Choosing a care home is one of the most personal decisions a family can make, and we understand the questions, worries, and hopes that come with it. If you are exploring options for a relative in Northwich or the surrounding Cheshire area, we warmly invite you to get in touch, ask questions, and arrange a visit. We would be delighted to welcome you, show you around, and help you decide whether Gleavewood feels like the right home for your loved one.

    • Care Home

Lostock Lodge is a residential care home in Northwich. We care for older people who need help with daily living, including many people living with dementia, and we also support younger adults where we are confident we can meet their needs. Respite stays are part of what we do. The house runs on the idea that people have moved home rather than moved into a system. People get up when they wake, eat when they are hungry, keep their own furniture and photographs around them, and spend the day where they choose, in company or quietly on their own. Help with washing, dressing and getting about is given when it is wanted and as discreetly as we can manage. Dementia care here is mostly about steadiness. Familiar faces, a predictable rhythm to the day, and staff who know somebody's history well enough to understand what lies behind a difficult afternoon. We gather that history with families when a person arrives and keep adding to it, so the knowledge belongs to the home rather than leaving at the end of a shift. Meals are cooked on the premises and matter a great deal to how people feel. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated the home good overall, and visitors are welcome at any reasonable time.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Northwich

Six residential care homes in Northwich are registered to support people living with dementia, a small field that you can realistically visit in full. Each provides accommodation with personal care, so help with washing, dressing, medication and meals comes from care staff, with district nurses and the local practice attending as needed. None is registered as a nursing home, so if clinical care from a qualified nurse is part of the picture now or soon, the assessment should steer you towards a different registration.

What To Watch For In A Dementia Setting

Visit at a busy hour and spend most of it watching. Notice whether residents are occupied or simply seated, whether staff come down to eye level with people who cannot easily reply and whether anyone is left calling out. Ask what dementia training staff have completed and how often it is refreshed, how the home responds when someone becomes distressed or tries to leave, and how often medication is used at those moments. Look at whether the layout helps people find their own room and whether a safe outdoor space is actually in use.

Reading The Inspection Reports

All six homes hold a rating of Good, among them Gleavewood Residential Care Home, Daneside Mews, Crossways Residential Care Home, Acorn Meadow and Lostock Lodge Care Home. Because the headline word is the same across the board, the comparison worth making is inside the reports, especially the sections on caring and on responsiveness, which describe how residents are treated hour by hour. Reports also age, so ask each home what has changed since its last inspection and how long the registered manager has held the post.

Choosing between dementia care homes in Northwich

The Care Needs Assessment

A care needs assessment costs nothing and can be requested by the person themselves or by a relative acting for them. For dementia it should record how needs are likely to progress rather than only how things stand today, because a home that cannot adapt may mean a second move later on. Begin with Cheshire West and Chester Council adult social care, which is responsible for assessing eligible needs and arranging funded placements in this area. Check the written outcome reflects the person at their most confused as well as their clearest, since dementia fluctuates through the day.

Fees And Who Pays Them

Weekly fees vary between homes and rooms, and dementia care can cost more where closer supervision is needed, so ask for the fee in writing with exclusions listed plainly. Where eligible needs are confirmed, a financial assessment of income and capital sets the resident's contribution and what the local authority meets. If a chosen home charges more than the local authority will fund, a relative may be asked for a top up, agreed in writing before a move.

Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Northwich

How many dementia care homes are there in Northwich?

Northwich has 6 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 8 CQC registered care homes in Northwich: 6 Good. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.

Which dementia care homes in Northwich were inspected most recently?

Gleavewood Residential Care Home (15 December 2023), Daneside Mews (23 September 2023) and Daneside Mews (23 September 2023) have the most recent CQC reports.

Which providers in Northwich offer dementia care?

Six residential care homes registered to support people living with dementia currently serve Northwich and all are listed on this page. They include Gleavewood Residential Care Home, Daneside Mews, Crossways Residential Care Home, Acorn Meadow and Lostock Lodge Care Home. Registrations differ in the detail, so confirm with each home that it can meet the particular needs involved. Every profile links through to the full inspection report.

What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?

A dementia care home provides a place to live with personal care from staff trained in supporting people with dementia, covering help with washing, dressing, medication and meals. A dementia nursing home holds a registration obliging it to have qualified nurses on duty, so it can meet clinical needs alongside the dementia support. All six providers listed for Northwich are registered as residential care homes rather than nursing homes. Nursing needs often develop as dementia advances, and a care needs assessment will show when a nursing registration becomes necessary.

What should I ask when visiting a dementia care home in Northwich?

Ask what dementia training the staff have had and how recently it was refreshed. Find out how the home responds when a resident becomes distressed or wants to leave, and how often medication is relied on in those situations. Ask how many staff are on duty overnight, whether there is a secure garden and what residents do between meals. It is also worth asking whether a life history is taken on admission and how families help review the care plan.

How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Northwich?

Contact the adult social care team at Cheshire West and Chester Council and ask for a care needs assessment, which is free to anyone who appears to need care and support. The request can be made by the person concerned or by a relative, friend or health professional on their behalf. If the person is in hospital, the ward discharge team will usually begin the assessment before they leave. Ask for a written copy of the outcome, since care homes will want to read it.

Can Cheshire West and Chester Council fund a dementia care home placement in Northwich?

It can, where a care needs assessment establishes eligible needs and a financial assessment confirms the person qualifies for help with the fees. The local authority may meet the full cost or part of it, with the resident contributing from income and capital under the national charging rules. Cheshire West and Chester Council carries out both assessments, so an application begins there. If a family prefers a home charging more than the local authority will fund, a relative may be asked for a third party top up.

How far in advance should we start looking for dementia care?

Start sooner than feels necessary, because dementia needs tend to change in steps and a suitable room may not be free at the moment you need one. Allow at least six to eight weeks for the assessment, visits and financial paperwork once a move looks likely. With only six homes providing dementia care in Northwich, having a shortlist ready makes a real difference. Visiting while there is no pressure also lets you judge a home honestly rather than in the middle of a crisis.
