About Dale Brook Care Home
Dale Brook Care Home is a residential care home in Chesterfield, supporting older people and younger adults from across Derbyshire, including people living with dementia and people with a physical disability. What we are aiming for is a household rather than an institution, and the difference tends to show in small things. Whether anybody knocks before coming into your room. Whether you can still make your own tea if you want to. Whether getting up at half past nine is treated as a preference or a problem. Whether the food is something to look forward to or something to be got through. For any of that to work, the practical side has to be dependable, so we are careful about personal care, medication, meals and having staff awake and available overnight. For residents with a physical disability we make sure the equipment and the help are there to get out of a room and about the house. Mobility lost because assistance was inconvenient is the easiest kind of loss to prevent and the hardest to undo. Dementia runs through much of our work. We stopped correcting people a long time ago. Consistent staff, a calm house and enough of somebody's history to find the thread of a conversation do far more, and relatives are usually the ones who can give us that. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. Visit at a busy time of day and ask the people who live here what they make of us.

More about the care at Dale Brook Care Home
Dementia Care at Dale Brook Care Home
This home stopped correcting people a long time ago, which is where its own account of dementia care begins. It credits consistent staff, a calm house and enough of somebody's history to find the thread of a conversation. Dementia care is on the Chesterfield registration, and since the CQC has not yet inspected the service there is no rating to weigh against those claims. Ask how distress is handled on a bad afternoon, what is done if a resident tries to leave, and how care is adjusted as dementia advances. Ask also what dementia training staff receive and who in the building leads on it.
Residential Care at Dale Brook Care Home
Indicative East Midlands fees of £850 to £1100 a week sit against a Derbyshire council rate of about £680 to £820, and that gap is worth settling before anything else. Residential care means support with everyday living and no nursing on site, so meals, personal care, medication and company are covered while wound care and unstable health needs are not. Up to 66 people can live at this Chesterfield home. Ask what it does if a resident's health moves beyond residential care, and whether a move would follow. Ask who makes up any shortfall between the council rate and the home's fee, and what a fee review looks like.
Older Person Care at Dale Brook Care Home
Whether anybody knocks before coming into your room is one of the small tests this Chesterfield home sets itself, along with whether you can still make your own tea and whether getting up at half past nine counts as a preference or a problem. Behind those questions sits the practical side it says it is careful about: personal care, medication, meals and staff awake and available overnight. Dale Brook Care Home describes what it wants as a household rather than an institution. Ask how many staff are awake overnight and what they are trained to do. Ask as well how a morning routine is recorded, and what happens when a resident's preference is inconvenient for the rota.
Younger Adults at Dale Brook Care Home
Registered for up to 66 people, this Chesterfield home names younger adults alongside older person and dementia care. Where most residents are a good deal older, an adult under 65 can find little in the week aimed at them. Ask who of a similar age lives there now, and how the day is arranged for them.
Physical Disability at Dale Brook Care Home
Mobility lost because assistance was inconvenient is the easiest kind of loss to prevent and the hardest to undo, as this home puts it. Equipment that is actually to hand, and help to get out of a room and about the house, are what that comes down to. Ask how transfers are assessed, how the agreed method is recorded, and what access is like between bedrooms, dining room and garden.
