About General Hospital
We provide care and support in people's own homes in North Shields and across North Tyneside. We work with a wide range of adults, and the purpose is always the same: enough support, arranged the way the person wants it, for life at home to keep working. For older people we help with personal care, medication, meals, housework, shopping and getting out and about, and we raise changes in appetite, mood or steadiness early rather than waiting to be asked. For people living with dementia we keep the same care workers visiting, follow the routine that already exists and leave the home as the person knows it. We support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, where the emphasis is on independence and on communicating in the way that suits the individual, and adults with mental health needs, where reliability and respect do most of the good. We help people with a physical disability to move safely and manage at home, and where somebody has sight or hearing loss we adapt how we communicate. We also support people whose lives have been affected by alcohol or drug dependency, working alongside the health professionals involved and without moralising. Younger adults are supported around their own lives. Our staff are trained for the people they actually visit and we work closely with local health teams. Please get in touch to discuss support at home.
