About Better at Home (IOW)
Better at Home provides care to people in their own homes in Sandown and across the Isle of Wight. Our work is with older adults, many of them living with dementia, with adults who have a learning disability, with autistic adults, with people managing a mental health condition, and with people who have a physical disability. Being on the Island shapes things. Staff are local and tend to stay, which does more for the people we visit than anything else we could list. Distances and ferry times are real, so we plan rounds honestly rather than promising hours we cannot keep. Where relatives live on the mainland and cannot simply drop in, we make a point of keeping them properly informed rather than waiting to be asked. We look at the household as we find it rather than at a list of tasks. What the person can still do and would be insulted to have taken over. Which part of the day has actually broken down. Who else lives there and how worn out they are. From that we agree what we will do and revise it as things change. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Ring us and we will come out and listen first.
