We support people in their own homes across the Isle of Wight. The people we visit are varied. Older people, many of them living with dementia. Adults with a learning disability or autism. Choosing carers carefully, training them properly, thinking about who we send to whom, and looking after our staff so that they stay long enough to really know the people they visit. The support itself is shaped around the person. Short calls covering personal care and medication for some. Longer visits for others, built around company, confidence and getting out of the house. Something much more substantial where that is what makes staying at home possible. We agree it with the person, write it down plainly and adjust it as things change. Living on an island brings its own difficulties, and distance and isolation are real for some of the people we visit. We treat noticing that as part of the job.
