Our team works to create gentle routines, familiar surroundings, and meaningful moments that help each person feel secure and valued. Following its most recent inspection in October 2022, Standon House received an overall CQC rating of Requires Improvement. We are proud that inspectors recognised our home as Good in both the Caring and Responsive domains, reflecting the genuine compassion of our team and the way we listen and respond to residents as individuals. We acknowledge that other areas, including Safe, Effective, and Well led, were identified as needing improvement, and we take this feedback seriously as a foundation for ongoing development and stronger outcomes for those in our care. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that choice. If you are considering residential, dementia, or respite care in the Tamworth area, we warmly invite you to get in touch with Standon House to learn more about how we can support your loved one with kindness, respect, and person centred care.

- Care Home
Meadowyrthe is a residential care home in Tamworth providing care for older people, including people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, people with loss of sight or hearing, and people living with mental health conditions. The place runs at the pace of the people in it. Breakfast happens when somebody wakes rather than when a trolley arrives, and the day takes the shape a person wants. The care covers washing and dressing, medication, meals cooked here, mobility and the many small practical things that become difficult alone. For those living with dementia and for people managing mental health conditions, patience and familiarity achieve more than any amount of procedure. For people with loss of sight or hearing we adapt how we communicate, how rooms are lit and how we approach and announce ourselves, because those small changes decide whether somebody is included. Families are welcome whenever they want to come, and we would much rather hear a concern early than late. Respite stays are available. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

- Care Home
We are a residential care home in Tamworth, providing a home for older people who need support with the ordinary business of daily life. We try to keep the atmosphere of a house rather than a facility, with people bringing their own furniture and pictures and carrying on with the things they have always enjoyed. We help with personal care, mobility, meals and medication, and we care for people living with dementia. What makes the real difference with dementia, in our experience, is familiar staff, routines that stay put and enough time that nothing needs rushing. We also support people with a physical disability, thinking carefully about how rooms are set up so that independence is not quietly eroded, and people with a visual or hearing impairment, adapting how we communicate. Respite stays are available as well. A planned break can be what allows a family carer to keep going, and a short stay is also a gentle way of finding out whether a care home is the right step. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We would much rather a resident or relative raised a concern while it was still small, so we ask often and we act on what we hear. Please do come and visit. Looking round and meeting people tells you far more than anything written down.

For those living with dementia, we focus on gentle routines, familiar surroundings, and compassionate understanding that helps each resident feel safe and valued. Our residential care welcomes older adults who need daily support with the practical aspects of life, whilst our provision for younger adults and people with physical disabilities ensures that age or ability need never be a barrier to receiving thoughtful, dignified care. We also support individuals recovering from alcohol or drug related challenges, offering a stable and non judgemental environment in which people can rebuild their confidence and wellbeing. Respite care is another important part of what we offer. Whether a family carer needs a well earned break, or a loved one requires short term support following a hospital stay, our respite stays provide the same quality of care and warm hospitality that our longer term residents enjoy. Families can take comfort knowing their relative is looked after with kindness and professionalism during their time with us. At the heart of our approach is the belief that good care is built on relationships. We take time to get to know each resident as an individual, understanding their history, preferences, and the small daily details that make life meaningful. This personalised outlook shapes everything from the way we plan activities to how we support residents at mealtimes and throughout the day. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission, carried out in May 2023, gave us an overall rating of Requires Improvement. Within this, we are proud that our Safe, Caring, and Responsive domains were each rated as Good, reflecting the genuine compassion of our team and the safe, attentive environment we work hard to maintain every day. We recognise that our Effective and Well led ratings show areas where we are actively developing, and we are wholeheartedly committed to strengthening these aspects of our home. We view this feedback as an important part of our ongoing journey, and we welcome open conversations with families about the improvements we are making. Choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we understand the mixture of emotions that comes with it. If you are exploring options for a loved one in Tamworth or the surrounding areas of Staffordshire, we warmly invite you to get in touch, ask questions, and arrange a visit. Meeting our team and seeing our home for yourself is often the best way to know whether Evergreen House Residential Home feels like the right fit. Whatever stage you are at in your search, we are here to listen, to reassure, and to help you make the choice that feels right for your family.

- Care Home
Bonehill Lodge in Tamworth provides residential care for older people, including residents living with dementia, residents with a physical disability and residents with a visual or hearing impairment. We aim to be a comfortable, familiar sort of place where staff and residents know one another properly. The day is not run to a rigid timetable. People get up when they are ready, eat food cooked on the premises that is worth looking forward to, and spend their time in company or quietly as they prefer. Where someone has a sensory impairment, we pay attention to the details that matter. Saying who we are as we come into the room, explaining what is about to happen before we help, keeping belongings exactly where they were left, and making sure nobody is left out of what is going on around them. For residents living with dementia, we keep routines steady and our approach unhurried, and we spend real time learning a person's earlier life, since that is usually what allows us to settle someone who is anxious. Relatives are welcome at any reasonable hour and we encourage families to stay involved in decisions. We also offer respite stays. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

- Care Home
Arkall Manor Care Home is a care home in Tamworth, Staffordshire. We provide residential care for older people and for younger adults, including people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment, and we also offer respite stays for those who need care for a short period or whose regular carer needs a rest. Moving into a care home is rarely a decision anyone makes lightly, so we try to make the first weeks as unhurried as possible. We ask about the routines someone has kept for years, the food they actually like, how they take their tea, whether they prefer company or their own room, and we build from there rather than expecting people to fit around us. Day to day, that means people get up and go to bed when they choose, can bring furniture and pictures from home, and can carry on with what they enjoy, be it gardening, the newspaper, cards, music or simply watching the comings and goings. Where someone is living with dementia, we work to keep the surroundings calm and familiar and to understand what lies behind any distress. We have not yet received an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission, and we are happy to talk through our own quality checks with anyone who asks. Families are welcome here at any reasonable hour. Please come and visit us in Tamworth before you decide anything.

- Care Home
Spring Tree Rest Home in Tamworth offers residential care, with a particular focus on supporting people who are living with dementia. We are a home rather than an institution, and we try to keep everything about daily life here simple, familiar and calm. Dementia care asks a lot of small, patient things. Keeping the day in a steady rhythm. Giving someone time to answer rather than filling the silence. Understanding that a person looking for their mother, or for a house they left decades ago, is expressing a real feeling that deserves a real response. We do not correct people for the sake of it. We work out what is behind the worry and we settle it. Knowing a person's history is central to that, so we spend time with families gathering it. What someone did for a living, what they listened to, how they liked their home run, what always used to calm them down. Those details shape the care far more than any form we could fill in. Our residents' rooms are theirs to make their own, and we encourage people to bring familiar furniture and photographs. Visitors are welcome throughout the day, and we would always rather hear your concerns early. We also offer respite stays for shorter periods. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

- Care Home
Wilnecote Rest Home is a residential care home in Tamworth, Staffordshire. We provide accommodation and personal care, and a good part of our work is supporting people who are living with dementia. We also welcome people for respite stays, whether that is to give a family carer a break or to help someone regain confidence after a difficult spell. Dementia care rewards patience more than anything else. We keep the shape of the day familiar, we let people take their time rather than hurrying them along, and when somebody becomes unsettled we look for the reason instead of treating it as behaviour to be handled. Families usually hold the detail that makes sense of it, so we ask them, and we write down what they tell us. Nobody moves in without us getting to know them first. We want to understand the routine a person is used to, what they enjoy at mealtimes, when they like to rise and go to bed, and what they would still like to do for themselves. Their care plan follows from that rather than from a standard list, and we revisit it as things change. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and we treat it as the standard we must keep meeting. Visitors are welcome. - Care Home
Dover Cottage Rest Home is a residential care home in Tamworth, Staffordshire. We are home to older people who need support with everyday life, including residents living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for people who need care for a shorter period or whose family carer needs a rest. We think of this as somewhere people live, not somewhere care is delivered to them, and we try to make that difference obvious in how the house runs. Residents tell us when they like to get up, what they want to eat, how much help they want and where they prefer to spend the day. Support with personal care, meals, medication and appointments is given quietly and with proper regard for privacy, and whatever someone can still do for themselves is protected rather than taken over. Dementia care shapes much of our work. Knowing a person's history, the people and places that matter to them and the rhythms that suit them is what allows us to reassure someone who is anxious instead of arguing with them. We keep the day familiar and explain changes in advance wherever we can. Company matters too, and we pay attention to residents who would otherwise spend the day alone in their room. Families are welcome whenever they want to come. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

- Care Home
Linden Lodge Residential Home is a care home in Tamworth, Warwickshire. We provide a home for older people, including those living with dementia, and we also offer respite stays for shorter periods of care. What we aim to offer is a settled, familiar place where people keep their own routines and their own things around them. We ask about preferences in detail, because how somebody likes their morning to go is not a small matter when it shapes the rest of their day. For residents living with dementia, steadiness is what helps most, so we keep routines consistent and staff familiar and we take the time to understand what somebody is telling us when the words have become difficult. We should be straightforward with you about where we stand. Our most recent overall judgement from the Care Quality Commission was that we require improvement. We accepted the findings rather than arguing with them, we have a plan of work in place and we are progressing it alongside colleagues in health and the local authority. Families deserve to hear that from us directly rather than discovering it later. If you are considering Linden Lodge for someone you love, please come and visit. Look round properly, speak to our staff and residents, and ask us exactly what the concerns were and what we have changed since. We will answer plainly rather than steering you towards a brochure.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Tamworth
The shape of residential dementia support
Each of the ten providers on this page is a residential care home, which means staff are on site through the day and night to help with washing, dressing, meals, medication and the ordinary rhythm of a day. For someone living with dementia, how predictable a place feels counts for more than how it looks. Familiar faces across shifts, a routine that does not lurch about, and staff who notice distress building before it boils over are the things that make a placement hold together.
Reading the ratings with some care
Six of these homes are rated Good, three sit at Requires Improvement, and one is yet to be rated, usually a sign of recent registration. Wilnecote Rest Home, Bonehill Lodge, Spring Tree Rest Home, Lane House Residential Care Home, Dover Cottage Rest Home and Meadowyrthe hold the Good ratings. Standon House, Evergreen House Residential Home and Linden Lodge Residential Home currently sit at Requires Improvement, and Arkall Manor Care Home has no published rating. A rating compresses a long report into one word, so open the report: a home pulled up on record keeping is a very different prospect from one pulled up on how residents are treated.
Questions that actually separate one home from another
Ask what dementia training staff complete and who in the building leads on it. Ask how the home supports someone who walks with purpose, becomes unsettled as the afternoon wears on, or no longer recognises their family. Ask whether a resident can bring their own furniture and whether mealtimes bend around the person rather than the kitchen. Visit at a busy hour and watch how staff speak to the people they are helping, because that tells you more than any brochure.
Choosing between dementia care homes in Tamworth
The assessment comes before the money
The person needing care is entitled to a care needs assessment, and that is where this properly starts. It is carried out by the Staffordshire County Council social care team, the authority responsible for assessing need and arranging funded support, and anyone who appears to need help can request one whatever their savings. The assessor looks at memory, safety, mobility and the help already in place, then recommends whether a residential placement is the right answer at all.
Deciding who pays what
A financial assessment follows separately, considering income, savings and, for a permanent move, property. Where capital falls below the national threshold the local authority may meet part or all of the weekly fee. Dementia care usually costs more than standard residential care because of the staffing it requires, so ask each home plainly what the fee includes, what is billed as an extra, and how often fees are reviewed. A smaller number of people are funded through NHS continuing healthcare instead, which applies where needs are primarily clinical.
Keeping the search from running away
Begin earlier than feels necessary, since assessments take weeks and the better regarded homes fill. Filter on rating and travelling distance, visit three or four, then compare what you saw rather than what you read. Every profile here links through to the full inspection report for that home.
Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Tamworth
How many dementia care homes are there in Tamworth?
Tamworth has 10 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 21 CQC registered care homes in Tamworth: 6 Good, 3 Requires improvement, 1 not yet rated. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.
Which dementia care homes in Tamworth were inspected most recently?
Spring Tree Rest Home (6 February 2025), Lane House Residential Care Home (2 September 2023) and Evergreen House Residential Home (19 May 2023) have the most recent CQC reports.
Which providers in Tamworth offer dementia care?
Ten residential care homes serving Tamworth are listed on this page, each registered to support people living with dementia. They include Wilnecote Rest Home, Bonehill Lodge, Spring Tree Rest Home, Lane House Residential Care Home and Meadowyrthe. Registration describes what a home is permitted to provide rather than how well it provides it, so the rating and the report behind it are the parts worth reading. Opening a profile gives you the published detail for that provider.
What should I ask when visiting a dementia care home in Tamworth?
Ask how many staff are on duty overnight and how long the current team has been in post, because consistency matters enormously to someone with dementia. Ask what dementia training staff receive and how they respond when a resident becomes distressed or disorientated. Ask to see a week of activities and whether relatives can visit without arranging it in advance. It is perfectly fair to ask what the last inspection told the home to improve and what has changed since.
How does a dementia care home differ from a dementia nursing home?
A residential dementia care home provides personal care and supervision, with trained care staff supporting daily life and a general practitioner or community nurse called in when needed. A dementia nursing home also employs registered nurses on site, which suits people with continuing clinical needs such as complex medication, wounds or feeding support. All ten providers listed on this page are residential care homes rather than nursing homes. If nursing input looks likely before long, that difference should shape the search from the outset.
Can Staffordshire County Council fund a dementia care home placement?
It can, where both the care needs assessment and the financial assessment support it. Staffordshire County Council first establishes that residential care is appropriate, then considers income, savings and property to work out the person's contribution. Where capital falls below the national threshold the authority may meet part or all of the weekly fee. Some people are funded instead through NHS continuing healthcare, which applies when needs are primarily health related rather than social.
How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Tamworth?
Contact the adult social care team at Staffordshire County Council and ask for an assessment for the person needing care. Anyone who appears to need support is entitled to one regardless of income, and the request may come from the person, a relative or a professional on their behalf. An assessor will discuss memory, daily living, safety and the support currently in place. The written outcome then sets out the recommended level of care and opens the funding question.
How far in advance should we start looking for dementia care?
Starting several months before a move feels pressing gives you a real advantage, because assessments take weeks and well regarded homes fill quickly. Looking early also lets the person needing care visit and express a preference while they are able to. Families who begin only after a crisis, such as a hospital discharge or a carer falling ill, almost always face fewer options. Drawing up a longer list now costs nothing and makes any later decision considerably calmer.
