    • Care Home

Here at Aadamson House Care Home, we provide a warm and supportive home for the people who live with us in Preston, Lancashire. We genuinely care about the individuals who come through our doors, and everything we do is shaped around making sure each person feels respected, comfortable and truly at home. We support a wide range of needs, including older person care, residential care, dementia care, physical disability, and visual and hearing impairment. We also welcome younger adults who require care and support. Because our residents come to us with such varied backgrounds and needs, we work hard to understand each person as an individual, not just as a set of care requirements. Getting to know someone properly takes time, and we think that investment is what good care really looks like in practice. For those living with dementia, we know how important familiarity, routine and a calm environment can be. Our team works closely with residents and their families to make sure that care is tailored and consistent, and that people feel safe and understood even on more difficult days. We are proud to hold a rating of "good" from the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the genuine effort our team puts in day after day. We do not take that recognition for granted, and we continue to look at how we can improve and grow. Families often tell us that the thing they value most is being kept in the loop and feeling welcome whenever they visit. We believe that care works best when it extends beyond the individual to include the people who love them. If you would like to find out more about life at Aadamson House, or if you are considering care for a loved one, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. We are always happy to talk things through.

    • Care Home

The Knowle Care Home is in Preston. We provide residential care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. We keep things straightforward. People usually come to us because managing at home had become hard work, and what they want back is some ease. Meals they do not have to plan or cook. Help when washing and dressing has become a struggle. Somebody who notices when they are not themselves. Company when they want it and quiet when they do not. Residents carry on running their own lives as far as they are able, choosing their routines, arranging their rooms and deciding how much of the day to spend downstairs. We ask people to bring their own furniture and pictures, because a room that looks like yours makes settling in far easier. Dementia care here is built on consistency rather than anything elaborate. Familiar staff, a steady rhythm to the day, and knowing something about a person's earlier life. When somebody is unsettled, we look for the reason rather than simply calming the moment. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather say that plainly than have you find it out elsewhere. We know what was identified, there is work under way, and we are happy to go through it. Please come and see The Knowle, ask us direct questions and judge it on what you find.

    • Care Home

Ashleigh Rest Home is in Preston, providing residential care for older people who can no longer manage comfortably on their own. We are a small home and have no wish to be anything else, because it means the team genuinely know the people who live here, their routines, their families and what makes a day go well or badly. We support people living with dementia, where continuity and patience achieve more than anything else we could offer. Knowing what somebody's day used to look like and keeping as much of it as we can matters more than any amount of written planning. Our approach otherwise is straightforward. People keep their own habits and belongings and as much independence as they want. Meals and company matter a great deal here, so we put real effort into both. Respite stays are available too, for people needing care for a short period and for family carers who need a break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. The better test is whether people here seem settled. Please come and see for yourself.

    • Care Home

The Brooklands Residential Home is a care home in Preston, Lancashire. We provide a permanent home for adults with a range of care needs, and we aim for a household where people are known properly rather than simply looked after efficiently. Our care is residential rather than nursing. We help with personal care, medication, meals, mobility and company, and we bring in community health professionals when something more clinical is needed. We support residents living with dementia, where familiar staff and a routine that holds steady are the things that genuinely help. We care for residents living with mental health conditions, where a calm environment and early attention to changes matter greatly, and residents with physical disabilities or a visual or hearing impairment, adapting how we communicate and how we assist person by person. We support younger adults as well, and we plan their interests and routines separately rather than folding them into a pattern designed for older residents. Respite stays are available, giving family carers a real break and letting somebody try the home before a permanent decision is made. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see the home on an ordinary day, speak to residents and relatives, and form your own impression.

    • Care Home

Parklands is a residential care home in Preston supporting older people, including many living with dementia, adults living with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment. We support some younger residents and we welcome respite guests. We run the home as a household. Mornings are flexible, meals are proper meals, and residents decide how they spend their time, with company when they want it and quiet when they do not. Staff learn people's histories rather than just their needs, because knowing someone's life is what makes it possible to care for them well. Dementia care takes up much of our attention. We keep routines familiar, the building calm and the staffing as consistent as we can, and we follow the person rather than correcting them. When someone is distressed we look for the cause behind it rather than treating the distress as the problem, and relatives are usually the best guide to what has always helped. For residents with a sensory impairment we think carefully about how a room sounds and looks and how we approach someone. For those living with a physical disability we look at seating, equipment and how the building works, because independence usually depends on practical detail. Respite guests receive exactly what permanent residents receive. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. If you would like to visit, please get in touch and come and see us.

    • Care Home

Abraham House is a residential care home in Preston, Lancashire. We care for older people, including many residents living with dementia, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. Families usually come to see us at a point when they have already spent months worrying, so the first thing we try to do is answer their questions honestly, including the ones they feel awkward asking. What happens if my mother refuses to get up. Can she bring her own chair. What do you do when someone is distressed at night. We would far rather have those conversations plainly at the start than smooth over them. As a residential home our work is everyday life supported well, with general practitioners and district nurses involved when needed. The things that matter most are unremarkable and require real discipline to sustain. Unrushed help with washing and dressing. Medication given properly. Food worth looking forward to. Staff who notice when a resident is not themselves. For people living with dementia we keep the routine predictable and the faces familiar, and we ask relatives for the details of a life that help a conversation start. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Penwortham Grange and Lodge in Preston offers both residential and nursing care, with qualified nurses on duty at all times. We care for older people and younger adults, including many people living with dementia, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Having both kinds of care on one site matters more than it may sound. When somebody's health changes, they do not necessarily have to move away and start over with strangers, and that continuity is worth a great deal to people and to their families. Nursing here means steady attention to the things that keep a person comfortable and well: medicines, mobility, nutrition and hydration, skin, continence and pain, reviewed properly and discussed with the person and their family rather than handled quietly in the background. We involve GPs, district nurses and specialists early rather than late. Around that, ordinary life carries on. People rise when they wake, keep their own furniture and photographs about them, choose where to spend the day and eat food that suits their taste as well as any clinical need. With dementia we rely on knowing somebody well, so we gather a person's history with their family and keep adding to it. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.

    • Care Home

Oxford House is a residential care home in Preston supporting a broad mix of adults. Some are older people who need more help than could be managed at home. Some are living with dementia. Others are adults living with mental health needs, a physical disability or a visual or hearing impairment, and we support younger adults as well as older residents. Running a home with that range of people works because we plan around individuals rather than groups. We learn what someone's day looked like before they came here and we try to keep as much of it as we can. People choose when to get up, what to eat, where to sit and whether they want company or quiet. For residents living with dementia we keep routines familiar and the building calm, and we take our cue from the person. For those living with mental health needs we watch for early changes and work alongside community teams. For people with a sensory impairment or a physical disability we adapt how we communicate and how the space works, because small practical adjustments decide how independent someone can be. Respite stays are available and are treated with the same care as permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. Lostock Lodge is a residential care home in Preston, Lancashire, providing a permanent home for older people who can no longer manage safely on their own. We try to run the place as a household, with the ordinary rhythms of meals, company, fresh air and rest. Our care is residential rather than nursing, which means help with washing and dressing, medication, eating well and moving about safely, alongside the things that are harder to measure but matter just as much: conversation, being listened to and somebody noticing when a person is not quite themselves. We support residents living with dementia, and our approach is to learn each person's history and habits properly so that reassurance can be given in terms that make sense to them. Community health professionals are brought in whenever something more clinical is needed. • Care Home

Here at Lady Elsie Finney House, we provide residential care for older people in the heart of Preston, Lancashire. We are a care home that genuinely gets to know the people who live with us, taking the time to understand who they are, what matters to them, and how they like to live their lives. We support a range of needs here, including residential care, dementia care, mental health needs, and care for younger adults. This means our team has broad experience and a real understanding of how varied and individual care needs can be. We do not take a one size fits all approach. Every person who comes through our doors brings their own story, their own preferences, and their own way of doing things, and we work hard to make sure that is respected every single day. Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us as Good, which we are proud of, though we are always looking at how we can do better for the people in our care. That rating reflects the work our staff put in consistently, not just when someone is watching. Life at Lady Elsie Finney House is about more than meeting care needs. We want people to feel at home, to enjoy their days, and to feel part of a community. Whether that means sitting down for a proper cup of tea and a chat, joining in with activities, or simply having some quiet time to themselves, we try to make space for all of it. If you are considering care for yourself or someone you love, we would always encourage you to come and visit us. No amount of reading about a place tells you as much as walking through the door and getting a feel for it yourself. We would be very happy to show you around.

We are a residential care home in Preston, providing a home for older people who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia and people with physical disabilities. Our aim is an unhurried house. A good deal of care is spoiled simply by being rushed, so we try to give people the time to wash, dress and eat at their own pace, and to sit with somebody who wants to talk rather than moving straight on to the next task. Residents keep their own rooms, belongings and routines as far as we can manage, and they decide how much they want to be part of whatever is happening. Where somebody needs help with moving about, we give it without doing more of the task than is needed. Dementia care comes down to knowing the person. We ask families to tell us about working life, children, music, faith and old habits, because that knowledge is what allows a member of staff to reassure somebody who is anxious or cannot place where they are. Meals are cooked here and we pay attention when somebody would rather have something different. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Families are welcome whenever they wish to come. Please come and see the home for yourself.

Coote Lane Residential Home is near Preston, providing residential care for older people, including those living with dementia, residents with a physical disability and people living with sight or hearing loss. We also support some younger adults whose needs suit a home of this kind. We help with washing and dressing, medication, meals and whatever else has become difficult, and we leave people in charge of the rest. Residents decide when they get up and go to bed, where they spend the day, what they eat and whether they want company or a quiet afternoon on their own. For residents living with dementia we keep the house familiar and the staff consistent, explain what is happening as we go and take time to work out what lies behind a change in mood rather than treating it as a symptom. Where somebody has a physical disability the right equipment is in place and staff are trained to help with moving safely and comfortably. For residents with sight or hearing loss we adapt how we communicate and do not move things without saying so. Meals are cooked here and we ask people what they actually want to eat. Visitors are welcome at any reasonable time. Respite stays are available for family carers needing a break or for somebody regaining strength after illness. Meadowfield House is a residential care home in Preston for older people. We support people who need help with daily living, people living with dementia, and people with a physical disability, and we take respite bookings for families who need a short break or a period of extra support after a stay in hospital. We aim to feel like a house rather than a unit. People keep their own belongings around them, choose how they spend the day, and are never hurried through the parts of it that take longer than they used to. Mealtimes matter here and we treat them as something to look forward to rather than something to get through. Relatives and friends are welcome throughout the day, and we would rather they came often and informally. Dementia care asks for consistency, so our staff learn the details that make somebody feel secure: the routines, the names, the times of day that are harder and the things that help. When needs change we say so early and we talk it through with families rather than presenting them with a decision already made. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. If you are looking at residential or respite care in Preston, please arrange to visit. We will show you round and answer your questions honestly, including the awkward ones.

    • Care Home

Direct Approach Care is a residential care home in Preston, and we support a broader group of people than most residential homes take on. Older people who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia. Adults with learning disabilities and autistic people. Adults living with mental ill health. People with physical disabilities. Younger adults. Respite stays are available as well. A mixed household only works if people are genuinely treated as individuals rather than as categories, and that is how we try to run the place. Support is agreed with the person, written in terms they recognise, and reviewed as circumstances move. Some residents need a great deal of hands on help with washing, dressing, medication and mobility. Others mainly want stability, company when they choose it, and a house that holds steady through a difficult week. For autistic people, predictability is a need rather than a nicety, so we explain changes in advance and keep staffing consistent. For residents living with dementia, we keep routines and surroundings familiar and give people time instead of hurrying them along. We have not yet had an overall rating published by the Care Quality Commission. We think it is better to say that ourselves and let you judge us on how openly we answer your questions. Anyone considering a move here, for themselves or for somebody they support, is welcome to visit and take their time over the decision.

At Dovehaven Grove, we provide residential care for older adults and younger adults living with a range of needs, including dementia, physical disabilities and visual or hearing impairments. We are based in Preston, Lancashire, and we take real pride in being part of this community. We know that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a person and their family will ever make. That is why we work hard to ensure that everyone who comes through our doors feels genuinely at home, not just cared for. Our team takes the time to get to know each resident as an individual, understanding their routines, their preferences and what matters most to them in day to day life. Our home supports people with dementia in a way that respects their history and identity. We are mindful that dementia affects everyone differently, so we approach each resident with patience and a real effort to understand their world rather than expecting them to fit into ours. For those joining us for a short stay through respite care, we aim to make the transition as comfortable as possible, whether someone is recovering after a hospital stay or giving a family carer a well earned break. We are pleased that our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission resulted in a rating of Good, which reflects the consistent effort our whole team puts in every single day. We do not see that rating as a destination though. We carry on listening to residents, families and staff to keep improving the experience for everyone here. If you would like to find out more about life at Dovehaven Grove or arrange a visit, we would be very happy to hear from you. We always welcome the chance to show families around and answer any questions they might have.

Here at The Brambles Rest Home in Preston, Lancashire, we provide residential care for a wide range of people who need support with day to day living. Our team works hard to make sure that everyone who comes through our doors feels genuinely at home, not just looked after. We care for older adults, younger adults, and people living with dementia, physical disabilities, visual or hearing impairments, and eating disorders. We know that each person carries their own story, preferences and routines, and we take the time to understand what matters to each individual so that care feels personal rather than one size fits all. Dementia care is one of the areas we give particular thought to. We know how unsettling life can become for someone living with dementia, and equally how worrying it is for their family. Our approach is calm, consistent and built around familiarity, so that residents feel safe and understood rather than confused or rushed. For those living with a physical disability or a sensory impairment, we focus on supporting independence wherever possible, while making sure that the right level of assistance is always there when it is needed. We also have experience supporting younger adults and those managing eating disorders, which requires a thoughtful and sensitive approach that we do not take lightly. We were rated Good by the Care Quality Commission at our most recent inspection, which reflects the genuine effort our team puts in every single day. We are proud of that rating, but we never use it as a reason to stop looking at how we can do better. If you are considering The Brambles Rest Home for yourself or someone you love, we would always encourage you to come and visit us and see the place for yourself.

    • Care Home

Greenways is a residential care home in Preston supporting older people, including those living with dementia. We offer permanent places and respite stays. A good day here looks unremarkable from the outside, and that is deliberate. Somebody gets up at the hour that suits them and is helped to wash and dress the way they have always done it. Breakfast is something they actually wanted. There is a newspaper, or the radio, or a conversation, depending on who they are. Somebody notices that a resident is quieter than usual and sits down with them rather than walking past. For people living with dementia, the constants do most of the good. Familiar faces, a predictable shape to the day, meals at the times the body expects, and staff who neither hurry nor correct. We build around what a person can still do rather than keeping a tally of what has gone. Families usually know the thing that turns a hard week around, so we ask and we listen. Respite stays give a family carer a break that is genuinely a break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit on an ordinary day.

    • Care Home

Beechdale is a residential home in Preston supporting adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with dementia, and people with a physical disability or a visual or hearing impairment. We also offer respite stays. Our approach starts from the individual rather than the diagnosis. Two people with similar needs on paper will want very different things from their week, and a home that treats them as a category will suit neither. So we spend time learning how each person likes their day to run, what they want to be able to do, what they find difficult, and which parts of life they would rather handle themselves. Communication gets particular attention here. So much of what goes wrong in this kind of support comes down to somebody not being understood, or not being given the time to make themselves understood. We work at the pace of the person rather than the pace of the building, and we never take quietness as evidence that all is well. Where people want to get out into Preston, see family, or keep up something regular, our job is to make it happen rather than explain why it is awkward. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. Families and professionals are welcome to visit and see for themselves how the house works.

Swillbrook House Residential Home is in Preston, providing residential care for older people who can no longer manage safely on their own, and supporting people living with a physical disability, people with sight or hearing loss and younger adults. We also support people living with eating disorders. We aim for the feel of a household rather than an institution, with people keeping their own routines, their own belongings and a genuine say in how their day goes. We support people living with dementia, where a steady and familiar routine is worth more than anything else we could offer, and where understanding what sits behind distress matters more than simply managing it. Respite stays are available too, for people who need care for a short period after illness and for family carers who need a proper break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. The better test is the everyday evidence, whether people are up and occupied, whether mealtimes are sociable and whether relatives feel able to raise a concern early.

Here at Clough House, we are proud to be a care home at the heart of the Preston community in Lancashire, offering a warm and familiar place where people can feel genuinely at home. We support a range of individuals, including older people, those living with dementia, younger adults and people who need a shorter stay through respite care. Each person who comes through our doors has their own story, their own preferences and their own way of doing things, and we think it matters enormously that we take the time to understand that from the very start. Dementia care is something we take seriously. We know how much the right environment and the right approach can make to someone living with dementia, as well as to their family. We work hard to create a calm, reassuring atmosphere where people feel safe and understood, not just looked after in a clinical sense. Our respite care gives families and carers the chance to take a break with the confidence that their loved one is in good hands. Whether someone stays with us for a short period or makes Clough House their permanent home, we aim to offer the same level of attentiveness and genuine warmth throughout. We are pleased that our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission resulted in a rating of good, which we feel reflects the everyday effort our team puts in. That said, we never see a good rating as a reason to stand still. We are always looking at how we can do better for the people in our care. If you are exploring options for yourself or someone close to you, we would always encourage you to come and see us in person. A visit tells you far more than any description can.

    • Care Home

We are Longridge Hall and Lodge, a residential care home near Preston in Lancashire. We provide a home for older people, including those living with dementia, and we also take respite stays. Residential care at its best means helping with the things that have become difficult and leaving everything else in the hands of the person themselves. Washing and dressing, meals, medication, getting about safely, and the ordinary company that makes a day worth having. For health needs beyond our registration we work with district nurses and GPs rather than stretching to cover something we should not. Dementia shapes much of our day. We have found that arguing with somebody's account of things achieves nothing, and that knowing who a person has been tells us more than any list of symptoms. Someone who ran a household or worked to a particular rhythm for forty years still carries that, and a routine built around it goes far better than one imposed on top. Respite guests get the same assessment and the same welcome as anyone living here permanently, whether they are recovering after a spell in hospital or giving a family carer a rest. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Belmont is a residential care home in Preston. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia or mental ill health. We plan around the individual rather than the building. Before somebody moves in we ask how they have always run their day, what they want help with and what they would much rather do themselves, and we write it down so that staff follow the person rather than a house routine. Help with washing, dressing, mobility and medication is given discreetly and at the time that suits. For people living with dementia we keep the day familiar and unhurried, and we use what families tell us about the life behind the person. Where mental ill health is part of the picture we work closely with community teams and include the person properly in decisions about their own care. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement, and we would rather tell you that ourselves. We have accepted the findings, we are working through the areas that were raised, and we will go through the detail with anyone who asks. Short respite stays are available. We are Freckleton Lodge, a residential care home near Preston. We provide care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we also support younger adults whose needs suit a residential setting. Respite stays are available. Moving into a care home is a considerable upheaval, and we try to make it feel less like an ending than it can appear. People arrive with their own furniture, pictures and habits, and we work around those rather than expecting everybody to take on ours. What time you like to wake, where you want your breakfast, how sociable you feel on a given day: those decisions stay with you. For people living with dementia, most of the useful work is in the detail. Knowing somebody's history and the job they did. Recognising early what tends to unsettle them. Being willing to go at their pace rather than the rota's. That prevents far more distress than it costs in time. We also make a point of supporting what people can still do themselves, because losing that unnecessarily is very hard to put right and is often the thing people fear most. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Relatives are welcome at any reasonable hour and we tell them when something has changed. The people who live here need different things from us. Many need help with personal care, mobility, medication and meals. A number are living with dementia, and for them we keep the day familiar, keep the same staff around and work at their pace. We also support adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, and people with physical disabilities, where equipment, seating and access decide how much somebody can do independently. We should be honest about our standing. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather set that out plainly than have you come across it elsewhere. We understand what the inspectors told us, we are working through it, and we will discuss any of it with anybody considering a place here or already living with us. Whether it is remembering a favourite meal, supporting a cherished hobby, or offering a listening ear during a difficult moment, our focus remains on the wellbeing of every resident. Whatever stage of the journey you are on, we are here to listen, to guide, and to welcome you with open arms.

We are a residential home for older people in Preston, caring for people who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and younger adults who need support. Our aim is a settled house where help is close at hand without taking over somebody's life. Residents keep their own rooms, belongings and routines as far as we can manage, and they decide how much they want to be part of whatever is happening. Where someone needs help with washing, dressing or moving about, we try to give it without hurry and without doing more of the task than is actually needed. Dementia care rests on knowing the person rather than following a procedure, so we ask families to tell us about working life, children, music, faith and old habits. That knowledge is worth more than any written plan when somebody is frightened or cannot place where they are. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was requires improvement. We would rather tell you that ourselves than leave you to find it elsewhere. We are working through the points the inspectors raised, and if you are considering the home for someone close to you we will go through the report with you and answer whatever you want to ask. Please come and see the place as it really is and talk to the people who live here.

Here at Pear Tree House, we are a care home based in Preston, Lancashire, offering a warm and genuinely homely environment for the people who live with us. • Care Home

Catterall House Care Home is a residential care home in Preston, and we support a broader group of people than many homes take on. Older people who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia. Adults living with mental ill health. People with physical disabilities. Younger adults. Respite stays are available as well. A mixed household only works if people are treated as individuals rather than as categories, and that is genuinely how we run the place. Support is agreed with the person, written in terms they recognise, and reviewed as things change. Some residents need a great deal of hands on help with washing, dressing, medication and mobility. Others mainly want stability, company when they choose it, and a household that holds together through a difficult week. For residents living with dementia we keep routines and surroundings familiar and give people time instead of hurrying them along. For those living with mental ill health, the valuable thing is usually steadiness: a team who know them and no drama when a bad stretch comes. For residents with physical disabilities the emphasis is on equipment that fits and transfers handled safely and without embarrassment. We would far rather hear about a small problem early than a large one later, so families who tell us when something is not right are doing us a favour. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. You are welcome to visit on an ordinary day and take your time deciding.

    • Care Home

At Littlewood Manor, we offer residential care for older people in a warm and homely setting in Preston, Lancashire. We support people living with dementia, those who need longer term residential care, and individuals and families looking for respite care when it is needed most. We know that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we do not take that lightly. From the moment someone contacts us, we try to make the process as straightforward and reassuring as possible. We encourage visits, welcome questions, and take the time to get to know each person before they move in, so that we can support them in a way that feels right for them as an individual. Day to day life at Littlewood Manor is built around the people who live here. We pay close attention to routines, preferences and the things that matter most to each resident, whether that is how they like to spend their mornings, the foods they enjoy, or staying connected with family and friends. For those living with dementia, we work hard to create an environment that feels calm, familiar and safe, while still enabling people to live as independently as possible. • Care Home

Nova Care Residential Home is in Preston. We provide residential care for older people, including those living with dementia and people with sight or hearing loss, along with respite and short stays. We would rather be straightforward with you. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We accepted the findings, we have been working through them, and anybody considering the home should ask us directly what has changed and what is still to be put right. We would think less of a family that did not ask. What we are trying to offer is not complicated, though it is hard to do consistently. A comfortable house where older people are looked after properly, treated as adults and left in charge of their own days as far as they are able. That begins with asking how somebody has always lived and then actually working that way rather than fitting people to a routine that suits the rota. Dementia care here depends on familiarity. We keep staffing as steady as we can, we do not hurry anybody, and we take the trouble to learn what reassures a particular person. Where sight or hearing is failing we pay attention to lighting, contrast, signage and sound, and we check that glasses and hearing aids are being used and looked after. Visitors are welcome through the day and are kept properly informed. Please come and look round and judge the place for yourself.

The Martlets is a care home in East Preston, West Sussex, providing both nursing and residential care. Having qualified nurses on the team alongside our care staff means we can look after people whose health needs go beyond a residential setting, and that residents need not move on each time those needs change. We care for older adults, managing medication, nutrition, skin care, pain and comfort while helping with washing, dressing, meals and moving about in a way that leaves people as independent as they can be. We keep in close contact with GPs and community health teams so that care is properly joined up. Dementia care is a significant part of our work and rests on familiar faces, a settled routine and taking the time to learn what reassures each individual. We also support younger adults whose conditions require nursing care, planning their days around their own interests. Respite stays are available for families needing a planned break. We would sooner tell you that ourselves than have you find it later and wonder what else went unsaid. The areas identified are where our effort is concentrated at present, and we are glad to discuss them with any family considering us.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Preston

Getting the assessment under way

The starting point is an assessment of need, which anyone who appears to require care and support can ask for free of charge, whatever their savings. Where dementia is involved, the assessment should capture more than physical tasks. It needs to record how the person responds to unfamiliar surroundings, whether they walk with purpose and need space to do so safely, how they communicate discomfort, and what times of day are hardest. Ask for a carer assessment alongside it if a relative has been holding things together at home.

How funded support is decided

A financial assessment follows once needs are agreed, and it determines who pays. Capital above the national threshold means funding the placement privately, while people below it receive a contribution towards the weekly fee, with property disregarded in some circumstances. Both assessments are arranged through Lancashire County Council adult social care, which also arranges funded placements and reviews them. Where dementia is advanced and health needs are significant, ask about NHS continuing healthcare as well, since that is assessed on clinical grounds rather than on means.

What the fees tend to include

Weekly fees differ by home and by room, and homes with dedicated dementia units sometimes charge more because of higher staffing levels. Ask for a written breakdown of what the fee covers and what is billed separately, and ask specifically whether one to one support is included if the person needs close supervision for a time. Check how often fees are reviewed and what notice of an increase is given.

Choosing between dementia care homes in Preston

Reading the ratings with care

Twenty four of the thirty two homes here hold a Good rating, five are at Requires Improvement and three await a first inspection, which usually means recent registration rather than a problem. Rather than stopping at the overall word, open the report and look at the caring and responsive sections, which is where inspectors describe how staff handle distress, restraint and personal dignity. Homes such as Abraham House, Clough House and Parklands Care Home each have their own report, and reading two or three of them side by side quickly teaches you what good looks like.

What the building itself tells you

Layout matters enormously in dementia care. Look for clear sight lines from communal areas, doors and bathrooms that are easy to identify, contrast between floors and walls, and a safe outdoor space that residents can use without asking permission. A corridor that loops rather than dead ends helps someone who walks a great deal. Notice lighting and noise levels too, since glare and constant background sound can unsettle people considerably.

Questions that reveal how staff actually work

Ask what dementia training staff receive and how recently it was refreshed. Ask how the home responds when someone is anxious or wants to leave, and listen for answers describing distraction, reassurance and company rather than medication. Ask how life history is gathered and used, because knowing a person worked nights or hated crowds shapes care far more than a diagnosis does. Ask how families are kept informed as needs change.

Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Preston

How many dementia care homes are there in Preston?

Preston has 34 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 68 CQC registered care homes in Preston: 26 Good, 5 Requires improvement, 3 not yet rated. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.

Which dementia care homes in Preston were inspected most recently?

Belmont Care Home (10 July 2026), The Martlets (16 June 2026) and Direct Approach Care Limited (18 February 2026) have the most recent CQC reports.

Can Lancashire County Council pay towards a dementia care home placement?

It may, depending on a financial assessment carried out once care needs have been agreed. Savings and capital above the national threshold mean funding the placement privately, while people below it receive a contribution towards the weekly fee. A property is counted in some circumstances and disregarded in others, for instance where a spouse continues to live there. Where dementia brings significant health needs, ask separately about NHS continuing healthcare, which is assessed clinically rather than on means.

How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Preston?

Contact Lancashire County Council adult social care and request an assessment of need for yourself or for a relative acting with their agreement. It is free and open to anyone who appears to need care and support, regardless of income. A practitioner will look at daily living, mobility, medication, memory and safety, usually in the person's own home. Ask for a carer assessment at the same time if a family member has been providing regular unpaid care.

How far in advance should a family start looking?

Where there is any warning at all, beginning a few months ahead is far easier than deciding under pressure. Dementia places in well regarded homes are often in demand, and assessments take time to arrange. Starting early also allows more than one visit, which tells you much more than a single tour. If a hospital discharge is driving the timetable, ask the ward to involve the discharge team so assessments can be organised quickly.

Which providers in Preston offer dementia care?

34 residential care homes registered with the Care Quality Commission are listed on this page, including Abraham House, Clough House, Freckleton Lodge and Sherwood Lodge. Some run a dedicated dementia unit while others support people with dementia across the whole home. All are registered for personal care rather than nursing. Each profile sets out the registration details and the most recent inspection findings so you can compare them properly.

What should I ask when visiting a dementia care home in Preston?

Ask what dementia specific training staff have completed and when it was last refreshed. Ask how the team responds when a resident becomes distressed or tries to leave, and whether the answer relies on reassurance and activity rather than medication. Ask how the home records a person's life history and how that shapes their day. Ask to see the outdoor space and to visit again in the late afternoon, when unsettled behaviour is most common.

What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?

A dementia care home provides personal care and supervision for people living with dementia, delivered by trained care staff throughout the day and night. A dementia nursing home offers all of that plus clinical care from registered nurses based on the premises. Every home on this page holds residential registration rather than nursing registration. If the person also needs regular clinical input, such as help with swallowing difficulties or complex medication, a nursing registration is usually the right starting point.
