About Imber House
Imber House is a residential care home in Lowestoft. We support older people and younger adults, including people with a learning disability, autistic people and people living with a mental health condition. The people who live here have their own rooms and a genuine say in how the house runs, from what is on the shopping list to what happens at the weekend. Support is there for what needs it and stays out of the way of what does not, because independence is easily eroded by care that means well and does too much. We put a great deal of effort into communication. Nearly every difficulty in this kind of support comes back to somebody not being understood, so we learn how each person tells us what they want, in whatever form that takes, and we make sure the whole team can read it. Where somebody is unsettled, we look first at what we might change about the environment or our own approach. For people whose mental health fluctuates, we adjust to how somebody is rather than to what a plan says they should be. Some weeks the achievement is a busy and sociable week; other weeks it is getting through the day, and both are treated with the same respect. Respite stays are available for planned family breaks. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. You are welcome to visit and see the house as it usually is.
