About The Mayfield Care Home
The Mayfield Care Home is a residential care home in Whitby supporting older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia and people with physical disabilities. Life here is domestic rather than clinical. Meals worth sitting down to, company when it is wanted and quiet when it is not, familiar routines, visitors at whatever hour suits them, and time outside as an ordinary part of the week. Practical help with washing, dressing, medication and moving about fits around that rather than setting its shape. We plan from somebody's life so far. The work they did, the people who matter, what a normal week used to look like, what they have never been able to stand. Care built from that fits the person and makes a real difference to how settled they become in the early weeks. For people living with dementia we work with familiarity and go alongside the person rather than correcting them. Where somebody is distressed we look first for a cause we can put right. Where mobility is poor we are careful that it does not turn into somebody being left in one chair all day, because that is how a great deal of avoidable decline begins. Respite stays are available for planned family breaks. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. We are in a fine part of North Yorkshire and we make use of it. Visitors are welcome without an appointment.
