About Caedmon House
We are Caedmon House, a residential care home in Whitby. We support older people and younger adults, including adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, and we offer respite stays alongside longer term places. We are part of Whitby rather than a world apart from it. People who live here shop in the town, walk by the harbour, keep up with the clubs and churches they have always belonged to, and see friends and family as they choose. Where someone wants to try something new, whether that is a college course, a volunteering placement or simply learning to cook a meal they like, our job is to help them work out how. Support here is written with people, not for them. Everyone has a plan setting out what they want to achieve and how much help they want, and the staff who know them well are the ones providing it. Consistency matters enormously, particularly for autistic people and for anyone who finds change difficult, so we work hard to keep our teams settled and familiar. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take that as encouragement to keep looking at our own practice honestly rather than as a reason to stop asking questions. If you are considering Caedmon House for yourself or for a relative, come and visit. Talk to the people who live here, ask what an ordinary week looks like, and decide for yourself whether it feels right.
