About Peregrine House
Peregrine House is a residential care home in Whitby in North Yorkshire. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for those needing care for a short period. Whitby suits us. The sea is close, the town is a proper walk, and many of the people living here have known this part of Yorkshire all their lives, which means the community keeps coming through the door. We encourage that, and visitors are welcome at whatever hour works for them rather than whatever suits our rota. We want this to feel like a house people live in rather than somewhere they have been sent. There is usually something going on that nobody is obliged to join, and staff sit down and talk properly instead of passing through on the way to the next task. People here decide when they get up, what they wear, what they eat and whether they want company or their own space. Dementia care rests on patience and a recognisable day. We avoid springing things on people, we keep routines familiar, and when somebody is distressed we go looking for the cause rather than trying to smooth it over. Relatives frequently know precisely what helps and we want to be told. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
