About Whitfield
Whitfield is a residential care home on the edge of Dover in Kent, caring for older people, including many who are living with dementia. We offer permanent residential care and shorter respite stays, so we are able to help when a family carer needs a break, when someone is not yet ready to go home after a hospital stay, or when living alone has simply stopped feeling safe. People come to us at different points in their lives and we try never to treat an admission as routine, because for the person and their family it very rarely is. Our approach is simple enough to describe. We find out how someone has always lived, what they can still manage themselves, what worries them, and what they would like their days to hold, and then we shape their support around that. For residents with dementia this matters even more, so we keep routines familiar, we allow plenty of time, and we look for the reason behind distress rather than simply managing it. Meals are cooked here and we take requests seriously. There is company when people want it and quiet when they do not, and relatives are welcome to visit, join us for a cup of tea or take part in what is going on.
