About 55 Sandwich Road
We are a residential care home on Sandwich Road in Dover, supporting older people and adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. We are home to younger adults as well as older ones, and we offer respite stays. We are a small household, and that is the point of us. People are known properly rather than in outline, changes in mood get noticed without needing reporting, and the place can be run around the people living in it. People arrange their own rooms, have a real say in the food and the shopping, and are involved in how the place runs. Where somebody can do something themselves, our job is to make that possible rather than to do it faster for them, even when the quicker route is tempting on a busy morning. We are careful about routine and about explaining change in good time, because for several of the people here that is what makes a day manageable rather than difficult. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking the people who live here what they would change about the place, and we act on what we are told.
