About The Autistic Trust - 165 Jemmett Road
Our home on Jemmett Road in Ashford provides residential care for autistic adults and adults with a learning disability. We keep the house small and domestic on purpose. It is a home on an ordinary street, and the people who live here are part of the neighbourhood rather than residents of an institution. Everybody has their own room and their own belongings, and the day is built around each person rather than a timetable. Autistic people are often let down by environments that take no account of how they experience the world, so we pay close attention to that. Predictability, clear communication, respect for routine and the right sensory environment are not extras here, they are the basis of the support. We take time to learn how each person makes themselves understood and what a change in behaviour is telling us, and we record it so that the whole team responds in the same way. People are supported to get out locally, to keep up interests and activities, to attend appointments and to see family and friends. Respite stays can sometimes be arranged. If you are looking for a placement for somebody, please contact us. We will assess carefully and say honestly if we are not the right fit.
