About Glover House
Glover House is a residential care home in Ashford, Kent, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people with physical disabilities, and people living with sight or hearing loss. Most of those living here are younger adults, and we offer respite stays. This is somebody's home first and a care setting second, and that shows in ordinary decisions rather than in anything we could claim here. People choose how their rooms look, what goes on the shopping list, when they get up and how the weekend goes. Where somebody can do something themselves, we support them to keep doing it even when stepping in would be faster. Communication is where we start rather than where we arrive. Where a person communicates differently, whether because of a sensory impairment or for any other reason, we sort that out properly before anything else, because the rest of our work depends on it. We are careful about routine and about giving notice of change. For many of those living here, knowing what is happening and who will be on shift is what makes a day workable. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking the people who live here what they would change, and we would rather act on a small complaint now than a serious one later.
