About Weston Favell Houses
Weston Favell Houses is a nursing home in Northampton. We care for people whose needs include nursing, including people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss, mostly younger adults. Respite stays are part of what we do. A good deal of our work is with people whose lives changed suddenly rather than gradually, and that shapes how we approach it. Somebody in their thirties or forties who needs nursing care has not reached the end of anything. There are plans, relationships, opinions and a sense of who they were before, and the worst thing a setting like ours can do is quietly treat them as a patient whose life is now their treatment. So we support what a person can still do themselves and resist the drift towards doing everything because it is faster. Where somebody wants work, study or a social life, that is the point of the support rather than an extra. Where a resident communicates differently, whether through sight, hearing or anything else, we settle that properly at the start and everybody uses the same approach. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking residents what we should be doing differently.
