About Alexander House Care Home
Alexander House is a nursing home in Exeter. We care for older people and younger adults whose needs include nursing, including many living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are part of what we do. We keep people as their health changes rather than passing them along, because nursing is provided in the building rather than brought in. The work we do deliberately is keeping the place domestic. Once a nursing home starts running to ward habits, residents stop being consulted about their own day, so mealtimes, fresh air, unhurried help and privacy are protected on purpose. Where a resident needs a particular approach to be spoken to or approached, we agree it, write it down and stick to it rather than leaving each shift to improvise. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission, and we would rather state that plainly than write around the gap. Anybody considering us should visit unannounced, speak to residents and relatives, and ask us whatever they want.
