J and M Homecare is a home care agency in Harwich, Essex, supporting people in their own homes across the town and the surrounding area. Our work is for people who need help with daily life but have no wish to leave a home they have spent years making their own. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with visual or hearing impairment. A visit may involve personal care, support with medication, preparing meals, help with mobility and moving safely about the home, household tasks and shopping, company, or support to get out to appointments and to see people. Some clients need one short call a day and others need support several times over. We assess with the person and anyone they want involved, agree plainly what is needed, write it down and review it when circumstances change. Keeping the same carers with the same clients is a priority for us, and it matters most for people living with dementia, where a recognised face at the door is worth more than any amount of explaining. We do not yet hold an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission. We are registered with and regulated by them, and we are building the planning, training and oversight that a good rating properly requires.
