We work with older people and with younger adults who need a hand to manage day to day, and our purpose is to make staying at home a realistic option for as long as somebody wants it. We are a local team, and the people we visit are our neighbours. That matters more than it might sound, because it means we plan our rounds sensibly, we turn up when we have said we will, and we notice when something is not quite right. A carer who knows somebody well can tell the difference between a quiet morning and a worrying one. The support itself is agreed in advance and shaped around the person. For many of the people we visit, company is a large part of the value of a call, and we do not treat conversation as the first thing to be cut when time is short. We write the plan down so that everyone knows what has been arranged, and we review it as needs change.
