About Dementia Care
We are Essex Dementia Care, a home care agency based in Braintree and supporting people across Essex in their own homes. Dementia is the focus of our work, and everything about how we operate follows from what dementia actually asks of the people living with it and of those around them. Familiarity matters more than almost anything else. A person who is losing confidence in their memory is not helped by a different face at the door each week, so we keep the team around each person as small and as consistent as we can. We take time to learn a life history, because knowing about somebody's work, their family, the music they grew up with and the routines they have kept for decades gives us something real to reach for when the present feels confusing. Staying at home helps too. The layout, the light, the chair by the window and the view down the street are all anchors, and we would rather support someone within those surroundings than ask them to learn new ones. In practice our support covers personal care, prompting or administering medication, meals, help around the house and company through the parts of the day that are hardest. We also work with family carers, who often need practical relief and someone to talk to as much as anything else. Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us good overall.
