About Portland Domiciliary Service
Portland Domiciliary provides care and support to people in their own homes across Crook and the surrounding parts of County Durham. We work with older people, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and younger adults. Ours is a rural area and that shapes how we work. Distances are real, and a missed visit is not a minor inconvenience when the next house is some way off. We plan our rounds carefully, keep our teams local and make sure someone can always be reached. Our support covers personal care, medication, meals, mobility, help at the start and end of the day and getting out into the community. For younger adults and people with physical disabilities the focus is often access rather than frailty: getting to work, to college or to see friends without the whole day being organised around it. We want to be straightforward about our last inspection. The Care Quality Commission rated us as requires improvement. We are working through the findings rather than explaining them away, with tighter oversight of care records and medication, more structured supervision and training for staff, and better monitoring so that visits happen as planned. We would rather tell you plainly than have families learn it elsewhere. Please talk to us and we will be honest about what we can offer and what we are changing.
