About Butterwick Hospice
Butterwick Hospice supports people in their own homes across Bishop Auckland and the surrounding parts of County Durham. We work with older people and with younger adults. Coming into somebody's home at a difficult time asks for a particular kind of care. People want to stay where their own things are, where the routines are familiar and where the people they love can come and go freely. Our part is to make that possible, and to take enough off the household that families can go back to being families rather than only being carers. Our visits cover personal care, help with medication, meals and drinks, and practical support around the house. Just as often they are about company, a steady presence and somebody to talk to who understands what is happening. We do not treat that as the soft part of the job. For a good many households it is the part that matters most. We take time at the start to understand what the person wants, and we keep asking rather than assuming, because wishes and needs both change. We work closely with the other professionals involved so that nobody has to repeat themselves or chase information. If you or someone close to you would like to talk about support at home, please get in touch. We are happy to explain what we can offer with no obligation attached.
