    • Care Home

Here at Moorgate Hollow, we are proud to be part of the Rotherham community, offering a genuine home for the people who live with us. Our care home supports older adults, people living with dementia, and younger adults, and we take that responsibility seriously in everything we do. We have been recognised by the Care Quality Commission with an Outstanding overall rating, which means a great deal to us. Not because it is something to display on a wall, but because it reflects what our team works hard to achieve every single day: care that is attentive, respectful and truly person centred. We know that moving into a care home is a significant moment for anyone, and we want every person and every family to feel that they have found somewhere they can genuinely trust. Life at Moorgate Hollow is shaped by the people who live here. We take time to understand individual histories, preferences and routines, because good care cannot be delivered in a one size fits all way. Whether someone needs residential support, specialist dementia care or assistance as a younger adult navigating life with additional needs, we work closely with them and their loved ones to make sure our approach fits around them, not the other way around. Our team brings real warmth and consistency to their work. Familiar faces matter enormously in a care setting, and we work hard to build relationships that residents and families can rely on. We are open to anyone who would like to come and see us for themselves. A visit will always tell you far more than any description can. If you are exploring options for yourself or someone you care about, please do get in touch and we will be happy to show you around and answer any questions you might have.

    • Care Home

Moorgate Croft is a residential care home in Rotherham, providing a comfortable and sociable place to live for older people and younger adults who need support close at hand. We try to keep the feel of a household rather than an institution, with days led by the people living them. A good deal of our work involves supporting residents living with dementia. We do that by learning who somebody is, keeping routines familiar, explaining changes in advance and giving people the time they need. When a resident is distressed, we look for what is behind it rather than treating it as behaviour to be managed. Our team helps with personal care, medication, mobility and meals, and just as much with the things that make a day worth having: company for those who want it, quiet for those who do not, fresh air, music and conversation. Relatives are welcome whenever they can come. Respite stays are available for people who need care for a short period, or for families needing a rest. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Outstanding. We are pleased with that, though we treat it as something that has to be maintained rather than displayed. Please come and visit at an ordinary time of day and ask us whatever you would like to know.

    • Care Home

Eastwood House is a residential care home in Rotherham caring for older people who need daily support that can no longer be managed at home. We provide permanent residential places and respite stays for those needing a shorter period of care. Our residents include people living with dementia, people managing long standing mental ill health, adults with physical disabilities and younger adults whose needs bring them to us earlier than most. With that range, no single routine would suit everybody, so we learn each person's habits, preferences and history and let those shape the day. Help with washing, dressing, medication, mobility and meals is available whenever it is wanted, and offered rather than imposed. Whatever somebody can still do for themselves, they should, and our job is to keep that possible for as long as we can rather than quietly taking it over. For residents living with dementia we work at their pace and in their world rather than insisting on ours. Familiar routines, familiar staff and a calm setting do more good than correction, and knowing who somebody has always been is usually the key to reaching them on a difficult day. Families are part of how this house works. Visitors come at times that suit them, we keep relatives informed rather than waiting to be asked, and we are honest when something has gone wrong. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are looking at residential care in Rotherham, please arrange to visit and meet the people who live here.

    • Care Home

Rotherwood Care Home is a residential care home in Rotherham, caring for older people from across the town and the surrounding district. We offer permanent residential places and planned respite stays, and we support residents living with dementia and those whose physical disabilities make life at home difficult. We try to run a household rather than an institution. Residents keep their own routines as far as they can, breakfast happens when people are ready rather than at a fixed hour, and there is always an alternative if what is on the menu does not appeal. People are encouraged to bring their own furniture and pictures, because a room only becomes yours once your own things are in it. Dementia care starts with life history. Knowing someone's trade, their family, their habits and what has always comforted them tells us more about how to support them than any general guidance. When a resident becomes distressed we look for the reason rather than reaching for a routine response. Support for physical disability is about access rather than limitation. We plan and equip so that reduced mobility does not shrink someone's world to a single chair, and getting out of the building matters. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. Please come and visit on an ordinary day. It will tell you far more than any description.

    • Care Home

Wilton House is a residential care home in Rotherham supporting a wide mix of adults. Some of the people who live here are older, including those living with dementia. Others are younger adults, people with a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities or people with sight or hearing loss. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are saying so at the start rather than burying it, because anybody weighing up a home for a relative deserves to hear it from us. We know what was identified, work is under way on it, and we will go through the detail honestly with anybody who asks. The daily work here has to be individual, because the people are. Somebody who wants a quiet, predictable life gets one. Somebody who wants to be out and involved gets support that makes it possible. For people living with dementia we keep faces and routines steady and follow their pace. For autistic people we treat noise, lighting and changes of plan as part of the care rather than as scenery. Respite stays are available too. Please come and see the home on a normal day and form your own view.

    • Care Home

Broadacres Care Home provides residential care in Rotherham for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia. We also take planned respite stays. Most of what makes a care home work is undramatic. Getting up when you want to, food you actually want to eat, a familiar face on shift, and somebody noticing when you are quieter than usual. That is where we concentrate our effort. For residents living with dementia, familiarity and a calm unhurried approach prevent far more distress than they ever cost, so we keep the day recognisable and let people do things at the pace they can manage.

    • Care Home

Church View is a residential care home in Rotherham, caring for older people who can no longer manage safely on their own, and supporting people managing mental health conditions and younger adults. We aim for the feel of a household rather than an institution, with people keeping their own routines, their own belongings and a genuine say in how their day goes. We support people living with dementia, and that work depends on continuity above all. Knowing what somebody's day used to look like, keeping as much of it as we can and understanding what sits behind distress rather than simply managing it is what makes the difference between a settled day and a difficult one. Respite stays are available too, for people who need care for a short period and for family carers who need a proper break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take that as the standard to hold rather than an achievement to rest on. The better test is the everyday evidence, whether people are up and occupied, whether mealtimes are sociable and whether relatives feel able to raise a concern early. Please come and see for yourself.

    • Care Home

Jubilee Care Home is a residential care home in Rotherham. We support older people who need help with daily life, including many living with dementia, and younger adults who need residential care. We also offer respite stays for short periods. Most of the people who live here come from Rotherham and the villages around it, and that shared background counts for a good deal. Familiar names, familiar places and plain speaking give people something to hold on to, and a proper conversation over a brew is worth more than most organised activity. Residents decide how their own days go. When to get up and go to bed, what to eat, whether to sit with others or keep to their own room. Rooms hold people's own furniture and photographs because familiar belongings help far more than anything we could provide. For residents living with dementia, consistency is what helps most, so we keep staffing settled, learn each person's history properly and use it to make sense of what they are telling us. When somebody is distressed we look for the reason rather than trying to close it down. Health needs are managed alongside local GPs and community nurses, and families hear from us early rather than late. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please come and visit us in Rotherham.

Broom Lane Care Home is a residential care home in Rotherham. We support older people who need help with daily living, along with younger adults, residents living with dementia and people managing a mental health condition. We also offer respite stays for those who need care for a shorter period. We aim to give people an ordinary life with the support they need behind it. Residents decide when to get up, how to spend their time, what they eat and how much company they want. Our staff take time to learn what settles a particular person and what unsettles them, which matters a great deal for anyone living with dementia or managing a mental health condition. We should be open with you about our last inspection. The Care Quality Commission rated us requires improvement overall. We have not tried to explain that away. We accepted the findings, drew up a clear improvement plan and are working through it, with closer oversight of the areas the inspectors raised. We would rather tell you this directly and show you the work than have you learn it from somewhere else. We stay in close contact with GPs, community mental health teams and district nurses, and we keep families properly informed. Visitors are welcome at any reasonable time. If you are considering the home, please come, look around and ask us the difficult questions.

The Abbeys in Rotherham is a residential care home caring for older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia and people with a physical disability. Our aim is a home where people are known properly rather than simply looked after. That takes staff who stay long enough to learn somebody's history, habits and preferences, and care planned with the person rather than written about them. Help is given with washing and dressing, with transfers and moving safely, with medication and with eating and drinking well, and it is given without hurry. For those living with dementia we keep the day predictable and the surroundings familiar, adjust how we communicate rather than expecting the person to adjust to us, and treat distress as something to be understood. Families usually know a great deal about what works, so we ask them and we listen. The home is somewhere people live. Rooms are personalised, meals are cooked here with a genuine choice, there is company for those who want it and quiet for those who do not, and visitors are welcome. • Care Home

Silverwood is a residential care home in Rotherham, supporting older people, including many people living with dementia. Our ambition here is unfashionably plain: we want the ordinary days to be good ones. Food cooked in our own kitchen that people look forward to. Personal care given calmly and in private. Medication managed properly. Warm rooms that look like they belong to the person in them. Somebody awake at night. Enough going on in the house that there is a reason to come downstairs, and no pressure at all on anybody who would rather not. People keep their own habits wherever we can arrange it. A home that insists everybody rises at the same hour and bathes to a schedule has stopped being a home and become a timetable with beds in it. Dementia care is most of what we do and we have clear views about it. Correcting somebody about the year, or about where a long dead spouse has got to, helps nobody at all. Familiar staff, a calm and unhurried house, and knowing enough of a person's life to find the thread of a conversation help enormously. Relatives are our best source of that history, and we ask for it early rather than as a form filling exercise. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take it as a starting point. Come and see us at a busy time and ask the residents what they think.

Sandygate Residential Care Home is in Rotherham, and we provide residential care for older people along with respite stays for those who need somewhere for a shorter while. Moving into a care home is a considerable step, and our first job is to make the new place feel like somewhere you actually live rather than somewhere you have been put. We help with personal care, dressing, medication and getting safely about, and we do as much or as little as the person needs. If someone can still make their own bed or fold their own washing, we are not going to take that away from them. Rooms are people's own space, filled with their own things, and visitors come when they like. Dementia care is a significant part of our work. We keep routines steady and surroundings familiar, we give people time rather than hurrying them along, and we take the trouble to learn about someone's earlier life so that we understand what is behind a question asked for the tenth time. Families usually hold the pieces of that story, and we ask. Respite bookings are planned with the same care as permanent moves. A break is only restful if the person at home is genuinely settled. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. You are welcome to come and look round whenever suits, and to ask us the awkward questions as well as the easy ones.

Ladycroft in Rotherham offers respite stays for adults. The people who come to us include older people and younger adults, people living with dementia, people with a learning disability or autism, people with a physical disability and people with sight or hearing loss. Respite is its own kind of work and we try to treat it that way. A short stay can be unsettling if it is handled as a bed to be filled, so we spend time before somebody arrives finding out how they like things done, what reassures them, what they want to bring with them and what would make the stay feel manageable rather than strange. For the family carer having the break, knowing that has been thought about properly is most of the reassurance. While people are here they have their own room, their own routine and a real say in how the day goes. Support is about keeping ordinary life going rather than putting it on hold. We pay close attention to how people communicate, which is not always through words, and we take the time needed to understand rather than assume. For somebody living with dementia we keep things steady and familiar. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep examining our practice around choice and privacy. If you are considering respite for yourself or someone in your family, please get in touch or come and visit.

    • Care Home

The Beeches is a residential care home in Rotherham. We provide care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we also support some younger adults. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. We aim for an ordinary, comfortable household. Residents get up when they wake, eat what they actually enjoy and spend their days as they choose. Some are sociable and are downstairs from breakfast onwards. Others would rather have their own room, their own television and a quiet word with somebody who is not in a hurry. Both are perfectly reasonable and neither needs explaining. People usually arrive having struggled at home for a while, and the first few weeks are about settling rather than fitting in. We learn routines rather than imposing them, and we encourage people to bring their own furniture and pictures so a room becomes theirs quickly. Dementia care here rests on familiar staff, a steady rhythm and knowing something of a person's earlier life. Families often supply the detail that explains everything, and we ask for it early. Where somebody is distressed, we look for the cause. Having younger adults living here as well means we are careful not to let anyone's day drift into a pattern built around much older residents. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit The Beeches.

    • Care Home

West Melton Lodge is a residential care home in Rotherham providing care for older people, for younger adults, and for people living with dementia. We offer permanent places and shorter respite stays. We should be plain about our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission, which is requires improvement. We would rather tell you ourselves than leave you to discover it. We understand which areas were identified and we have a clear programme of work under way, with changes already made to staff supervision and training, to how care is recorded, and to how families are involved in decisions. Please ask us about it when you come, and we will show you what has changed and what is still in hand. The daily work of the home continues as it should: careful help with washing and dressing, meals cooked here, attention to nutrition and to skin and mobility, safe management of medication, and time spent with people rather than only on tasks. For those living with dementia we keep the routine steady and the faces familiar, because that is what genuinely settles a day. Visitors are welcome and we would always rather hear a concern early. Please come and see us and ask whatever you need to ask.

    • Care Home

Dearne Hall is a residential care home between Rotherham and Barnsley, and we provide a home for older people who need support with daily living, and for younger adults who need a supportive household. Respite stays are available as well. The first fortnight after a move matters enormously, and we give it real thought. Before somebody arrives we want to know what time they wake, how they take their tea, what they cannot abide and who they want to be able to ring. Those details are what begin turning a strange room into their room. We help with personal care, dressing, medication and mobility, and we do only as much as somebody needs. Where a resident can still manage something themselves, they keep it, and we are in no hurry to take things over. Dementia care is a large part of our work, and we treat it as caring for a person rather than managing a condition. We keep the day's rhythm steady and the surroundings familiar, give people time instead of finishing their sentences for them, and ask families about earlier life, because that knowledge is what makes sense of a mood or a repeated question. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Come and see us on an ordinary afternoon. A home is much easier to judge when nothing has been arranged for a visitor's benefit.

    • Care Home

Ashton Court Residential Home is a care home in Rotherham. We provide residential care for older people, including people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available. Because the people living here have genuinely different needs, we plan care one person at a time. What settles somebody with dementia is not what helps somebody with a physical disability keep their independence, and one routine stretched across everybody suits nobody in particular. So we spend our attention on the details: how a person likes to be addressed, what they can still do and would rather do themselves, what tends to make a bad day and what heads it off early. Where sight or hearing loss is involved, habits matter more than equipment. Saying who you are as you come into the room. Leaving furniture exactly where it lives. Checking that hearing aids and glasses are clean and working rather than assuming. People here decide when they get up, what they eat and how they spend the day. Visitors are welcome whenever suits them, and we would far rather a concern reached us early and bluntly than be stored up for months. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall, and we keep asking residents and families what needs our attention.

    • Care Home

Dearne Valley Care Centre is a residential care home in Rotherham. We provide accommodation and personal care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we take respite bookings for people who need care for a short period. Moving into a care home is a big change, and the way it is handled makes a great deal of difference. We want to know a person before they arrive: the work they did, the people who matter to them, how they take their tea, when they like to wake, what they still want to do for themselves. All of that goes into their care plan alongside the practical needs, and we come back to it as things change rather than leaving it in a folder. For people living with dementia, keeping the day familiar and unhurried usually helps more than anything we could arrange. When somebody becomes distressed we look for what is behind it rather than treating it as a problem to be contained, and we lean on families for the detail that helps us understand. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We regard that as a standard to go on meeting, and we ask residents and relatives regularly whether we are meeting it. Visitors are welcome, and a concern raised early is always easier to put right. Please get in touch if you would like to visit.

    • Care Home

The Grove Care Centre in Thurnscoe is a residential care home serving this part of Barnsley and Rotherham. We look after older people who can no longer manage at home alone, including a good many living with dementia, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. We are not a nursing home and we are clear with families about where that line falls. What we do is the daily work of helping somebody wash and dress, take their medicines, eat properly, move about safely and stay connected to other people. Done well that is a skilled job and it depends almost entirely on whether staff know the person, so keeping our team is where most of our effort goes. Thurnscoe is a former pit village with a strong sense of itself, staff are mostly local and tend to stay, and the people who live here are part of the place rather than tucked away from it. For residents with dementia we have found steadiness beats stimulation. The same faces, meals at the same times, a bedroom that looks like the person's own room, and nothing moved without a reason. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Call in and see us, with or without warning.

We at Dearnlea Park Residential Care Home are proud to offer compassionate residential care in the heart of Rotherham, providing a warm and welcoming home for older people, adults living with dementia, and those with mental health needs across the wider Barnsley and Yorkshire community. Our home is thoughtfully situated to offer residents a comfortable and homely environment, where familiar surroundings and a settled atmosphere help everyone feel at ease. The setting has been designed with the wellbeing of our residents in mind, offering spaces that encourage both quiet reflection and social connection. Whether enjoying a peaceful afternoon in a favourite chair or spending time with visiting loved ones, residents can feel truly at home with us. Our care specialisms reflect the diverse needs of the people we support. For older people, we provide considered, respectful residential care that honours each person's life story and preferences. Our dementia care is delivered with patience, understanding, and a genuine commitment to preserving dignity, helping residents feel safe and valued even as their needs change. We also support adults living with mental health conditions, offering a stable and understanding environment where recovery, wellbeing, and personal growth are nurtured. Recognising that care needs are not defined by age alone, we welcome younger adults who benefit from our tailored approach, ensuring their individuality is celebrated and their goals supported. For families who need short term support, our respite care offers reassurance and rest. Whether you are a family carer needing a break, recovering from illness, or simply seeking a trial stay before making longer term decisions, our respite provision offers the same warmth and quality of care as our permanent placements. Families often tell us that knowing their loved one is safe and well cared for makes all the difference during difficult times. In practice, our approach means that every resident is treated as an individual. Care plans are shaped around personal histories, preferences, routines, and aspirations. Families are actively involved in the journey, kept informed, and welcomed as partners in care. We believe that good care is built on strong relationships, honest communication, and a deep respect for the people who choose to make their home with us. Following our most recent CQC inspection in May 2025, we are pleased to have been awarded an overall rating of Good, with Good ratings across every domain, including Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. This consistent recognition reflects the dedication of our team and the standards we hold ourselves to every day. For families researching care options, a Good rating across all five areas offers meaningful reassurance that the home is safe, well managed, and genuinely caring in its approach. Choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that responsibility. If you are exploring residential, dementia, mental health, or respite care in Rotherham, we warmly invite you to get in touch, ask questions, and discover whether Dearnlea Park could be the right home for your loved one. We are here to listen, to guide, and to welcome you whenever you are ready.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Rotherham

Dementia care is less about tasks than about response: what a home does when someone is frightened, repeating the same question, or determined to go home at four in the afternoon. The buildings matter too, but the staff matter more.

Reading the reports for dementia specifics

Two homes on this list hold an Outstanding rating, sixteen are rated Good and four carry Requires Improvement. Inspection reports usually say something direct about dementia care: whether staff have been trained in it, whether people are supported to make their own choices, how restrictions are authorised, and whether activity is meaningful rather than merely scheduled. Where a home is rated Requires Improvement, read what fell short and ask what has changed since, paying attention to the date of the visit. Where a home holds Outstanding, the report has to justify that grade with evidence, and it is often the most useful reading on the whole list.

What to notice on a visit

Go at a time of day when dementia is hardest, usually the late afternoon, and watch what happens rather than what you are told. Notice whether staff crouch to speak at eye level, whether someone walking about is accompanied rather than corrected, and whether the environment helps, with clear signage, contrasting colours and somewhere safe to wander. Ask how the home manages distress without reaching for medication, how many staff have dementia training and how continuity of staffing is maintained. Ask how families are involved in a life history, since knowing that someone was a baker explains a great deal about why they get up at four.

Choosing between dementia care homes in Rotherham

The formal route sets out what care is needed and determines what help with the cost is available.

The care needs assessment

An assessment is free, is not means tested and is open to anyone who appears to need care. For dementia it should consider capacity, risk, night time safety and how much supervision a person requires, alongside washing, dressing, meals and medication. Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council Adult Social Care carries out that assessment and the financial assessment that follows it. A carer's assessment belongs separately to the relative who has been providing support, and in dementia cases it is rarely less important than the main one.

Fees and who contributes

The financial assessment weighs income, savings and capital. Above the national threshold a placement is privately funded; below it, the council contributes up to a level it considers sufficient for assessed needs, and a third party top up may be sought where a more expensive home is preferred. Where nursing needs accompany dementia, it is worth asking whether continuing healthcare funding should be considered, as that is decided separately. Ask each home for its weekly rate in writing and for a clear statement of what is charged on top. Ask too whether the fee changes if someone needs closer supervision later, since dementia progresses and a home that will not say now is unlikely to be clearer in a year.

Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Rotherham

How many dementia care homes are there in Rotherham?

Rotherham has 23 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 49 CQC registered care homes in Rotherham: 2 Outstanding, 18 Good, 3 Requires improvement. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.

Which dementia care homes in Rotherham were inspected most recently?

Church View (17 September 2026), Broadacres Care Home (10 August 2026) and Lord Hardy Court (30 June 2026) have the most recent CQC reports.

Which homes in Rotherham provide dementia care?

23 residential care homes in Rotherham appear in this collection, each registered with the Care Quality Commission. They include Whiston Hall, Lord Hardy Court and Eastwood House Care Home, alongside others in the area. Every listing shows the provider name, the current CQC rating where one has been awarded and a link to the full profile. Registration alone does not tell you how well a home supports dementia, so the inspection reports are worth reading in detail.

What should we ask when visiting a dementia care home in Rotherham?

Ask how many staff have completed dementia training and how continuity of staffing is maintained across the week. Ask how the home responds to distress, how it approaches someone who wants to leave, and how often medication is used to manage behaviour. Ask about meaningful activity, life history work and how families are involved in the care plan. Practical questions matter too, including night staffing, mealtime support and what the fee covers.

What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?

A dementia care home provides accommodation and personal care with staff trained to support people living with dementia. A dementia nursing home offers the same with registered nurses on duty at all hours for clinical needs such as complex medication or advanced physical frailty. The homes gathered on this page are registered as residential care homes. Since dementia usually progresses, ask each home what happens when nursing care becomes necessary.

Can Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council fund a dementia care placement?

It can, subject to a financial assessment carried out after the care needs assessment. Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council examines income, savings and capital, and contributes towards the weekly fee where these fall below the national threshold. Funding is set at a level regarded as sufficient to meet assessed needs, so a more expensive home may require a third party top up. Where health needs are substantial, it is worth asking whether continuing healthcare funding should also be considered.

How do we arrange a care needs assessment in Rotherham?

Contact the adult social care team at Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and ask for a care needs assessment. It is free, it is not means tested and anyone who appears to need care is entitled to one. A relative, a GP or a memory service can make the referral where the person cannot. The assessment should consider supervision, night time safety and capacity as well as help with daily tasks.

How far ahead should we start looking?

As early as the diagnosis allows, because dementia progresses and decisions made calmly are better than decisions made after a crisis. Assessments, financial checks and waiting lists all take time, and specialist places are not always available at short notice. Starting months ahead lets you visit more than once and see a home at different times of day. If a hospital discharge is already being arranged, tell the council, since those cases are prioritised.
