    • Care Home

Riseley House Care Home is a residential care home in Macclesfield, Cheshire. We provide a home for older people, including those living with dementia and people with a physical disability, and we also support some younger adults and offer respite stays for shorter periods. What we aim to offer is a settled, familiar place where people keep their own routines and their own things around them. We ask about preferences in detail, because how somebody likes their morning to go is not a small matter when it shapes the rest of their day. Residents decide how much company they want and how much time to themselves, and we try to make both genuinely possible rather than simply offering the choice on paper. We should be straightforward with you about where we stand. Our most recent overall judgement from the Care Quality Commission was that we require improvement. We accepted the findings rather than arguing with them, we have a plan of work in place and we are progressing it alongside colleagues in health and the local authority. Families deserve to hear that from us directly rather than discovering it later. If you are considering Riseley House for someone you love, please come and visit. Look at the home properly, speak to our staff and the people living here, and ask us exactly what the concerns were and what we have changed since. Those are the right questions to put to any home you look at, and we will answer them plainly rather than steering you towards a brochure.

    • Care Home

Keele Crescent Care Home is a residential home in Macclesfield for older people, including those living with dementia, and we also support some younger adults whose needs suit a home of this kind. We help with washing and dressing, medication, meals and anything else that has become difficult, and we try to leave people in charge of everything else. Residents decide when they get up and go to bed, where they spend the day, what they eat and whether they want company or a quiet room with the door closed. For residents living with dementia we keep the house familiar and the staff consistent, explain what is happening as we go and take time to understand what is behind a change in mood rather than treating it as a problem to be managed. Families usually know a person far better than any assessment does, and what they tell us shapes how we work. Meals are cooked here, we ask people what they actually want to eat and nobody is hurried through a plate. Visitors are welcome at any reasonable time and families are free to stay for a cup of tea or take a relative out for the afternoon. Respite stays are available for family carers needing a break or for somebody regaining strength after illness. Please ring us if you would like to visit and look round.

Henning Hall in Macclesfield provides both nursing and residential care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we also support some younger adults. Respite stays are available too. Having both kinds of care under one roof matters more than it might sound. When somebody's health changes and they begin to need nursing input, they do not have to pack up, leave the staff they know and settle somewhere unfamiliar at the worst possible moment. For a lot of families that continuity is the thing they are most anxious about when they first come to look round. Registered nurses are on site at all hours, so clinical needs are met here. Most of good nursing care is small things done reliably. Pressure care that does not slip. Mouth care that is not skipped. Someone sitting with a person who is frightened in the night. Alongside that runs the ordinary business of a decent day, which counts just as much. Residents choose their routines, make their rooms their own and decide how much company they want. With dementia we rely on familiar faces, a predictable day and knowing something of a person's earlier life. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit Henning Hall.

    • Care Home

Hope Green Residential Home is a care home in Macclesfield, Cheshire East, for older people. We offer permanent places and shorter respite stays. We support people with the ordinary business of the day: getting washed and dressed at their own pace, taking medication on time, eating well, moving safely about the building and having somebody to talk to. Many of the people living here are living with dementia, and our approach to that is practical. Familiar routines, surroundings that are easy to make sense of, unhurried conversation and staff who take the time to understand what a person means when the words will not come. Respite stays are part of what we do. Families caring for a relative at home often need a genuine break, and having somewhere reliable to arrange makes that possible. We also want to be straightforward about where we stand. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We have taken that seriously rather than defensively and are working through the areas identified, tightening how care is planned, recorded and checked. We would rather tell you that ourselves. If you are considering a home in this area, please come and visit, ask us awkward questions and hold us to the answers you get.

    • Care Home

Hope Green Residential Home is a care home in Macclesfield, supporting older people from Cheshire East and the surrounding area, including many people living with dementia. We are a residential home, which means we are not a clinical setting and we do not pretend otherwise. What we provide is a household where the practical difficulties of later life are taken care of so that the rest of life can carry on. Help with washing and dressing. Medication managed properly. Meals cooked here and served at a table. Somebody awake at night. Company when it is wanted and peace when it is not. Dementia is part of most of our days. Our approach is unfashionably simple: the same staff as often as we can manage, a calm and unhurried house, and a willingness to go where the person is rather than dragging them back to where we think they ought to be. If somebody is convinced it is 1962 and they are needed at work, there is almost always a way to settle that conversation kindly without a lie and without an argument. Relatives tell us things we would never otherwise learn, and we ask for that history early because it is genuinely useful rather than a form filling exercise. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission. Please come and see the home, meet the people who live here and ask us whatever you need to know.

We also provide respite care, giving family carers the opportunity to rest whilst knowing their loved one is being looked after with genuine kindness. In practice, this means residents can expect personalised care plans that evolve with them, mealtimes shared in good company, and the quiet reassurance of a team committed to treating everyone with respect. For families, it means open communication, involvement in decisions, and the comfort of knowing that a loved one is truly known, not simply cared for. Our most recent CQC inspection, carried out on 28 August 2025, resulted in an overall rating of Requires Improvement. Within that inspection, our Effective, Caring, and Responsive domains were each rated Good, whilst Safe and Well led were identified as areas Requiring Improvement. We believe in being open about this outcome. The Good ratings across Caring, Effective, and Responsive reflect the everyday warmth, skill, and attentiveness our team brings to the people who live here. At the same time, we take the areas highlighted for improvement seriously, and we are actively working to strengthen these aspects so that every part of life at Carmel Lodge matches the compassion at its core. If you are exploring care options for someone dear to you, we understand this can feel like a deeply emotional and important decision. We would be honoured to speak with you, answer your questions, and welcome you to visit us in Macclesfield so you can see our home for yourself and meet the people who make it what it is.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Macclesfield

Check what the registration actually covers

Every one of the four Macclesfield providers listed here holds registration as a residential care home, which means accommodation alongside personal care: support with washing and dressing, prompting and administering medication, meals, and the shape of the day. That category does not require qualified nurses to be on duty throughout the night. Where dementia sits alongside a health condition that needs regular clinical attention, ask the manager plainly how the home works with district nursing and at what point a need would be considered beyond what they can meet.

Read behind the rating word

Among these four homes the Care Quality Commission has awarded Good to two and Requires Improvement to two. One word carries only so much weight, so the report underneath it is where the value lies. Inspectors judge safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness and leadership as separate questions, and a home marked Requires Improvement may have been pulled down on record keeping or recruitment checks while relatives speak warmly of the daily care. A Good rating, equally, describes what inspectors found on one set of days rather than a promise about every shift since.

Look for dementia specific practice

What separates a competent home from a well suited one is usually how it handles the ordinary moments. Ask how staff are trained in dementia rather than care generally, how they respond when somebody becomes distressed or wants to keep walking, and whether the same faces appear across the week so that recognition has a chance to build. Visiting in the late afternoon, when tiredness tends to show, tells you more than an arranged tour at midday.

Choosing between dementia care homes in Macclesfield

Begin with a care needs assessment

Before fees enter the picture, the formal starting point is a care needs assessment, which anyone appearing to have a need for care can request regardless of savings or income. Contacting Cheshire East Council Adult Social Care puts that assessment in motion, and a separate financial assessment then establishes whether the authority contributes towards the cost of a placement, with support tapering as capital rises above the national thresholds. Carers can ask for an assessment of their own needs at the same time, which is often overlooked.

What shapes the cost

Weekly fees for residential dementia care vary with the home, the room and the level of support agreed, so treat any figure quoted early as a starting point and ask for a written breakdown of what is and is not included. Nursing contributions, where a registered nursing need is confirmed, come through the health service rather than the home. Request the fee schedule and the contract terms in writing from each shortlisted home, then set them beside the inspection reports linked on the profiles above.

Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Macclesfield

How many dementia care homes are there in Macclesfield?

Macclesfield has 7 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 17 CQC registered care homes in Macclesfield: 3 Good, 3 Requires improvement, 1 not yet rated. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.

Which dementia care homes in Macclesfield were inspected most recently?

Carmel Lodge Care Home (28 August 2025), Hope Green Residential Home (23 July 2025) and Henning Hall (2 May 2025) have the most recent CQC reports.

Which providers offer dementia care homes in Macclesfield?

7 providers match this search in Macclesfield: Hope Green Residential Home, Ingersley Court Residential Care Home, Riseley House Care Home and Keele Crescent Care Home. All four are registered with the Care Quality Commission as residential care homes. Ingersley Court Residential Care Home and Keele Crescent Care Home currently hold a rating of Good, while Hope Green Residential Home and Riseley House Care Home have been rated Requires Improvement. Each profile on this page links through to the full inspection report so you can see what sits behind those judgements.

What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?

A dementia care home is registered to provide accommodation with personal care, covering help with washing, dressing, medication, meals and daily routine. A dementia nursing home carries an additional registration that requires qualified nurses to be on duty, so it can manage ongoing clinical needs such as complex wound care, feeding tubes or unstable health conditions. All four of the Macclesfield providers listed here are registered as residential care homes rather than nursing homes. If a relative already has nursing needs, or they are likely to develop, it is worth discussing that openly with a manager before committing to a placement.

What should I ask when visiting a dementia care home in Macclesfield?

Ask what dementia specific training staff receive and how recently it was refreshed, rather than accepting a general assurance about experience. Ask how the team responds when a resident becomes distressed, wants to walk at night, or declines personal care, because those answers reveal the culture more clearly than the decor does. Find out how consistent the staffing is across the week, since familiar faces help recognition and trust. It also helps to ask what an ordinary weekday afternoon looks like and whether you can visit at that time rather than only by appointment.

How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Macclesfield?

Contact the adult social care team at Cheshire East Council, which is the authority responsible for carrying out care needs assessments in Macclesfield. Anyone who appears to have a need for care and support is entitled to an assessment, whatever their savings or income, and you can request one on behalf of a relative with their agreement. The assessment looks at what the person struggles with day to day and what outcomes matter to them, and it produces a record you can take into conversations with homes. A carer living with or supporting that person can ask for a separate carer assessment at the same time.

Can Cheshire East Council fund a dementia care home placement?

It can, although funding follows two stages rather than one. Cheshire East Council first completes a care needs assessment to establish that residential care is the right form of support, then carries out a financial assessment of capital and income. Support towards fees reduces as capital rises above the national thresholds, and above the upper threshold a placement is usually funded privately. Where a registered nursing need is confirmed, a separate health service contribution may apply, so it is worth asking the council to explain how the parts fit together in your relative's case.

How far in advance should I start looking at dementia care homes?

Starting several months before a move feels urgent gives you far more room than waiting for a crisis, which is when most placements actually get arranged. Early enquiries let you visit more than once, at different times of day, and keep a shortlist warm rather than accepting whatever is free that week. Availability in a small group of homes can change quickly, so ask each one how it handles waiting lists and whether a place can be held. If a hospital discharge is already being planned, tell the ward team and the council as early as possible so the assessment runs alongside it.
