About S E L F - 14 Park View
We are a residential care home at Park View in Houghton Le Spring, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, and people managing mental health conditions. We also offer respite stays. The scale is the point. Few enough residents that everybody is properly known, and few enough staff that everybody knows them back. People choose their own surroundings and share in the decisions about the house. Where somebody has something they want to get to, whether work or a club, that shapes the support. Predictability is something we take particularly seriously. For many of those living here, knowing exactly what is happening and who will be on shift is the difference between a settled day and a difficult one. Being in Houghton Le Spring means the shops, the buses and places to meet people are within reach, and supporting somebody to use them independently is usually worth more than anything we could arrange indoors. Where somebody cannot easily speak up for themselves we make sure somebody does on their behalf. A house where nobody complains is not necessarily a house where nothing is wrong. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. What we work at is making sure nobody here feels like a set of tasks.
