About Grangewood Care Centre
Grangewood Care Centre is a care home in Houghton le Spring. We provide residential care for older people, including many living with dementia, and for younger adults, and we support people with mental health needs and with physical disabilities. We also offer respite stays. Most of the people who live here come from this part of Sunderland, and that shared ground counts for a lot. Familiar names, familiar places and the same dry humour give people something to hold on to, and a proper conversation over a cup of tea does more good than most things on a timetable. Everyone here runs their own day. When to get up and go to bed, what to eat, whether to sit with others or stay in their room with their own things around them. Personal care is given quietly and at the person's pace. Because we support people with dementia and with mental health needs alongside one another, knowing each resident properly matters enormously. We keep staffing settled and brief our team on the person, not just the care tasks, so that distress is understood and headed off rather than simply managed. Health needs are dealt with alongside local GPs and community teams, and families hear from us early rather than late. The Care Quality Commission rated us good overall at our most recent inspection. Please come and visit us and speak to the people who live here.
