About Kirklees

Kirklees is a residential care home in Grimsby. We support older people and younger adults, including adults with a learning disability or autism, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. We should say at the outset that our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are not going to bury that. We know what was found, we have an improvement plan and we are working through it with our staff, with the people who live here and with their families and social workers, reporting progress to the inspectors as we go. Anyone considering a place should ask us exactly what is changing and how we are making sure it lasts. What we are working to protect meanwhile is a home where people are known properly. Everyone has their own room and their own belongings. People decide how their day is spent. Staff support people to do as much for themselves as they want to, whether that is cooking, shopping, managing money or getting out into town, and we take time to understand how each person communicates rather than assuming. Respite guests are planned for properly, with a visit beforehand and a conversation about what matters to the person. Please come and see the house, talk to the staff and to the people living here, and put the difficult questions to us. We would much rather answer them than have you wondering.
