About College View

College View is a residential care home in Grimsby. We are home to older people, including many living with dementia, and respite stays are part of what we do. We try to run an ordinary household rather than a rota. People wake when they wake, eat when they are hungry, and an afternoon with nothing arranged in it is a perfectly good afternoon. There is a tendency in this sector to mistake activity for quality and we work at avoiding it. Dementia care here depends on knowing the person. We ask relatives early for the working life, the places and the music, because that information is much harder to gather later and it is what still connects when a good deal else has gone. Food gets more thought than people expect. Appetite is often the first thing to go, and a meal that arrives cold, or at a time nobody is hungry, or needing help that has not come, quietly becomes a meal not eaten. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. Come at a mealtime and watch whether anybody is sitting waiting for help to eat, because that tells you a good deal.
