About Abbey House
Abbey House in Morden is a residential care home in the London borough of Merton. We support a notably wide range of people, which is unusual and is something we have chosen rather than drifted into. Older adults live here, including many people with dementia. So do younger adults. Among the people we support are those with a learning disability, autistic people, people managing a mental health condition, and people who are blind, partially sighted, deaf or hard of hearing. Running a home with that mix asks for more thought than running one where everybody is similar. We cannot have a single routine and expect it to fit. So we work out what each person's day should look like, and then we make the house accommodate it rather than the other way round. Someone may want their meals early and their evenings quiet. Someone else may be out at a day centre and back late with a bagful of shopping. Both are right. Communication gets particular attention here, because so many of the people living with us take in information differently. We write things down, we use pictures, we slow down, we check rather than assume. Respite and trial stays are available as well as permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Morden is easy enough to reach, so come and visit, and please talk to the residents as well as the staff.
