About 43 Florence Avenue
We are a small residential care home on Florence Avenue in Morden, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism, including younger adults. We also offer respite stays, which can give a family carer a real break while the person staying with us has company and a change of surroundings. This is somebody's home before it is anything else. People here have their own rooms, their own routines and a genuine say in how the day goes. Support is about making ordinary things possible rather than doing them for people. Cooking a meal you like. Doing your own shopping. Managing your money and appointments. Getting to a club, a course or a job. Seeing family and friends when you want to. We pay attention to that distinction, because independence is easily eroded by help that arrives in too much of a hurry. We take communication seriously. Not everybody here uses many words, and understanding a person properly takes time, attention and a willingness to be corrected rather than assumptions. Plans are written with the person, reviewed honestly and changed when they no longer fit. Being in this part of London means shops, parks and local groups are all within reach, and we encourage people to use them. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep examining our practice around choice and independence. If you are considering a place or a respite stay with us, please come and visit and meet the people who live here.
