About Woodthorpe Lodge

Woodthorpe Lodge is a residential care home in Loughborough. We provide care for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions and people with sight or hearing loss, and we offer respite stays. We are a home where people are known by name and by habit. Staff know who takes sugar, who wants breakfast late, who likes the television on and who cannot bear it. That sounds like a small thing, but in a care home it is most of what separates a comfortable life from an institutional one. When somebody moves in we spend proper time on their history and preferences, and we write it down so that everyone working here knows it. Dementia care depends on familiarity, so we keep the day predictable, avoid unnecessary change and work out what reassures that particular person, since it is rarely the same twice. Supporting people with mental health needs means being consistent and patient and working alongside community teams and GPs rather than in parallel with them. Where sight or hearing is failing we pay attention to lighting, contrast, signage and sound, and we check that glasses and hearing aids are being used and looked after. Meals are cooked here and residents have a say in the menu. Families are welcome throughout the day and can stay for a meal. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see the home for yourself and talk to the people living here.
