About Springfield Lodge
Springfield Lodge is a care home in Morecambe in Lancashire. We provide residential care for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for those needing care for a short period. Morecambe suits us. The bay is close, the front is a proper walk rather than a token one, and many of the people living here have known this part of Lancashire all their lives, which means the community keeps coming through the door. We encourage that, and visitors are welcome at whatever hour works for them rather than whatever suits our rota. We want this to feel like a house people live in rather than somewhere they have been sent. There is usually something going on that nobody is obliged to join, and staff sit down and talk properly instead of passing through on the way to the next task. People here decide when they get up, what they wear, what they eat and whether they want company or their own space. Dementia care depends on patience and a familiar day. We avoid springing things on people, we keep routines recognisable, and when somebody is distressed we look for the reason rather than trying to smooth it over. Relatives frequently know precisely what helps and we want to be told. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection, and we keep asking residents and relatives where we fall short.
