About Grey Gables
Grey Gables is a residential care home in Morecambe, Lancashire, supporting adults who have a learning disability and autistic adults, including younger adults. We also offer respite stays for people who need support for a shorter period, which can give a family carer a proper break. This is somewhere people live rather than somewhere they are placed, and we try to keep that difference visible in how the house is run from one day to the next. Support is arranged around each person. We help with personal care where it is needed, with cooking, laundry and shopping, with medication and appointments, and with managing money and correspondence. We also support people to get out into Morecambe, to keep up the activities they enjoy and to see family and friends. How we communicate matters as much as what we do. Learning how a person asks for help, how they show that they are unhappy and what helps them settle when a day goes badly is the core of the work, so we take time over it and we write plans in a form the person can actually use. Routines are respected and changes are explained in advance wherever possible. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep it by getting ordinary things right, and we keep asking the people who live here whether this feels like their home.
