About SENSE - 163 Newington Road
We are a residential home on Newington Road in Ramsgate, supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including people who are deafblind or who live with sight or hearing loss. Communication sits at the centre of everything here. When somebody has both a learning disability and a sensory impairment, the usual ways of asking what a person wants simply do not work, and the responsibility to bridge that gap is ours rather than theirs. We learn how each person takes in information and how they express themselves, whether that is through touch, sign, objects, gesture or a system they have used for years, and we use it consistently. That effort is what makes real choice possible. People here are involved in how the house runs, in what they eat, in how their own space looks and in what they do with their week. We support activity outside the house too, and we give plenty of notice before anything changes, because predictability matters a great deal to the people we support. We offer respite stays as well as permanent places, which lets somebody get to know us gradually and gives families a planned break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are considering a placement in Kent, please arrange to come and visit.
