About Waxham House
Waxham House is a residential care home in Ryde, on the Isle of Wight. We provide a home for older people who can no longer manage on their own, including people with physical disabilities. We are not a nursing home. What we offer is residential care: help with washing and dressing, medication given on time, meals cooked here, laundry done, and staff on duty through the night as well as the day. Doctors and district nurses come in when clinical care is needed. For a great many older people this turns out to be the right level of support, because it removes the effort and the worry without removing the independence. For residents with a physical disability, the thing that matters most is time. Transfers, moving about and personal care take as long as they take, and rushing is where both dignity and safety are lost. We would far rather build the day around that than run to a timetable that suits us. Beyond the help they need, residents run their own days, and Ryde is on the doorstep for anyone who wants to get out into it. Respite and short stays are available, whether for a planned break for a family carer or for somebody regaining strength after illness. Please ring us if you would like to come and look round Waxham House.
