About Wistaston House
Wistaston House is a residential care home in Crewe. We support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, and we also offer respite stays for people who need a short break or whose family carer needs one. We will start with our last inspection, because you should not have to go looking for it. The Care Quality Commission rated us requires improvement overall. We took the findings seriously rather than defending ourselves, and the work since has gone into the things that affect the people living here directly, which are safe medication practice, keeping staffing consistent so people are supported by workers who know them well, and making sure that when a resident, a relative or an advocate raises something it reaches a manager and gets a proper answer. What we are aiming for has not changed. Everyone here has a support plan written with them, in a form they can use, covering how they like to be supported and what they want their week to contain. Where somebody does not use speech, we learn how they do communicate and make sure the whole team knows. Where someone becomes distressed we look for the cause rather than the fastest way to stop it, and any restriction on freedom is agreed properly and reviewed. Families, advocates and commissioners are welcome to visit, ask us about the inspection and see the house as it is now.
