About Wilbury Gardens
Wilbury Gardens is a residential care home in Hove. We support adults, including younger adults, who have a learning disability or autism, people living with dementia, people living with mental ill health, people with physical disabilities and people whose sight or hearing is impaired. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. That is a wide range of people, and it only works because we plan individually rather than running everybody to one pattern. People here have their own rooms and their own belongings and a real say in how their week is spent, and support is offered for the parts of life that are genuinely hard and withdrawn from the parts that are not. Communication is central to the work. Where somebody does not use speech, or where sight or hearing makes the usual channels difficult, we learn how they do communicate and we record it so that every member of staff responds in the same way. When life becomes difficult we look for the cause rather than reaching for a label, and we agree in advance, in calm moments, what actually helps. We work with families, social workers, GPs and community mental health teams and we keep everybody informed. Being in Hove we make a point of getting out. Life should not shrink to these four walls. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please visit and see the place for yourself.
