About Wilbury
Wilbury is a residential care home in Hove. We provide a home for older people who need support with daily living, and we offer respite stays for people needing care for a short period or whose usual carer needs a break. Moving into a care home is a considerable step, and the early weeks count for far more than any description of the building. We use them to learn about the person rather than to fit them into our routine. What they did for a living. What they will not be persuaded to eat. What time breakfast has always happened. Whether they would rather have company or be left in peace with the radio. Small facts, and between them they are most of what turns a room into somewhere that feels like home. Being in Hove means shops, the seafront and a good deal of ordinary life are close at hand, and we encourage people to stay part of it, with visitors welcome at whatever hour suits them rather than whatever suits our rota. The rest of the day belongs to the people living it. We take the practical side seriously too: food worth looking forward to, medication handled carefully, prompt attention when somebody is unwell, and plain conversations with families when things change. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall, and we keep asking residents and relatives what needs our attention.
