About 182 Hangleton Road
182 Hangleton Road is a care home in Hove providing residential care for adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, including younger adults and older people. We offer respite stays as well. We are a house in an ordinary street and we like it that way. The people living here are neighbours as much as residents, and the everyday business of being known locally, using the same shops, being recognised and greeted, does more for somebody's sense of themselves than any activity programme we could design. Inside, the place is run as a home. People choose how their rooms look, share in the shopping and cooking, and decide what to do with their days. Staff help with what is genuinely difficult and step back from the rest, because independence is eroded more often by well meaning help than by neglect. For autistic adults, predictability is the foundation of everything else, so we keep the staff team as steady as we can, introduce new people properly and give notice of changes rather than springing them. Respite stays are prepared with visits beforehand, because arriving somewhere unfamiliar at short notice rarely goes well for anybody. We do not currently hold an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission. The most useful thing you can do is come and see the house on an ordinary day and ask us anything you like. You would be very welcome.
